Discussion Unpopular Anime Opinions

back before the "isekai boom" people are always bitching about started there was a lot of people going off in the same way about SoL and "moe" type shows after that blew up with things like K-on, "cute girls doing cute things" was looked at the same way people look at isekai now and made a lot of the same arguments, "all these shows are the same", "it's over saturating anime production", "ITS BAD CUZ ITS A TREND" etc

and I'm gonna use this to spring into my own hot take, people need to shut the fuck up about how there are too many isekais. as I've pointed out before it's just the new hot trend people have noticed and naturally, people have to be contrarians and hate on whatever is viewed as popular at any given time.

it gets even funnier when you talk to people who only know about anime and don't read or care about source materials. as if you have been following the trends in LNs and WNs you would have seen this anime Isekai boom coming like a decade ago. soon as LNs got seen as being profitable to be adapted into animes it was inevitable.

if people are sick of them. just don't watch them, find something else to watch, go back and watch old shit and stop getting suckered into only watching seasonal anime

its gonna been interesting when the next hot trend sweeps the market and everyone just memory holes isekais, based on what I've been hearing and thanks to redo doing so well its possible that the new hot thing is gonna be "revenge stories", but only time will tell

also if you want a nice visual representation of what I'm talking about, this is a timeline a bro of mine made that shows where all these ieskais are coming from and you can see the boom slowly trickle down into anime

I have never think that isekais are bad, in general I like them and I usually watch almost all of them and I think that many of them are actually quite interesting and entertaining, the problem is not the isekais themselves nor the quantity, the problem is the quality lol, there are too many isekais receiving anime and even sequels of these anime that are actually quite bad both in production quality and in their narrative and these things should be criticized lol.
A bit unrelated but man I really enjoy isekais like GATE, where we take modern infrastructure and political ideas to a medieval world. Really love those kinda stories. Read a LN (The Realist Hero... and oh my fucking god I just looked it up and it got an anime wew https://myanimelist.net/anime/41710/Genjitsu_Shugi_Yuusha_no_Oukoku_Saikenki ) that sorta focused on that before moving to a more generic harem plot.
and will have a second season in January
I remember having an argument with someone who told me that I couldn't criticize the anime if I haven't read the novels lol, but he contradicted himself saying that the anime didn't adapt the novels well, in short the anime bored me a little, it wasted whole episodes in nonsense that could be made shorter like that episode of the cooking contest where it wasn't necessary at all to take a whole episode for that which made it very boring.
still i rarely stop watching an anime i already started so i'm going to follow the second part in january.
I don't like Evangelion, i think it's dumb.
I think many people can agree with this, in general I think it's a decent series, but never the masterpiece that some people say, I think the guy just wrote a random story with sick characters that really wasn't intended to be more than that, that for some stupid reason people tried to look for a lot of complex things and ended up overvaluing the series, but I think it's not the masterpiece that some people say, I think the guy just wrote a random story with sick characters that really wasn't intended to be more than that, that for some stupid reason people tried to look for a lot of complex things and ended up overvaluing the series.
yea like you dont have to like it. the problem I have is so many people are just hating on it for the sake of hating on it without even considering why what's happening is in the first place. it gets annoying to see people who have no idea what they are talking about going off about how there is to mutch of X right now while having no idea the factors going into japans business decisions.

an ieskai is not bad cuz it's a ieskai it's bad on its own merits just like any over show

and I think it's due to something I've coined "anime tunnel vision" where you have fake weebs who only watch anime and nothing else running around like "WHY IS THERE SO MANY ISEKAI AND NOT WHAT I WANT" and due to not knowing where the anime comes form have no idea this isekai boom has been in the works for the better part of a decade and it should be no shock these series are getting adapted now. people think animez just kinda materialize out of thin Japanese fart air

what people need to do is stop watching anime weekly, stop watching only seasonal airing shit, go back and watch some of the thousands upon thousands of anime that have come out since the 80s and stop thinking you are forced to watch whatever the mainstream is watching so you can "be part of the conversation"

this is ALL bullshit engineered by shitty streaming sites like Crunchyroll to try to get you to stay subbed to them so you can watch shit every week, when you could just batch torrent something when its done airing and watch it at your own pace
I totally agree with all of this
fucking Crunchy -_-
SoL is good fight me
I think only idiots who only watch manga/anime shounen or trendy anime would say that stupid thing lol.
for years now soL has become one of the genres I enjoy the most.
although in general i watch pretty much anything and can enjoy any genre, i have anime i like from any genre you can think.
there are some great gems of the genre, some of them quite well known and others not so well known.

Considering what has been said so far I can think of something unpopular to say, however it is probably only unpopular for a certain part of the people or veteran weebs and for the elitist acquaintances.

seasonal anime and current anime [after 2010 to present] in general are not as bad as many say, in the same way older anime [before 2010] are not as good, I think things are pretty balanced with some good and some bad, some gems and some disasters.
I think that to say that nowadays anime are not coming out as they used to is a rather dumb comment.

For me, it's that I genuinely liked Fairy Tail and thought it was a good anime.
Death Note isn't smart at all

1. Death Note as predictable and therefor boring as fuck.
2. OG Full Metal Alchemist Anime was better then Brotherhood.
3. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was fun the first watch, but it is a show that never needs to be watched again.
4. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, endless 8 was not genius, it was just fucking pure crap.
5. Attack on Titan, is Mid.

I was so fucking confused watching that.
I genuinely thought I kept putting on the same episode until I googled it and found a post of someone pointing out the minute fucking differences in each episode.
Was it a cool concept? Sure.
Was it executed well? FUCK NO I DON'T WANNA WATCH THE SAME EPISODE 8 FUCKING TIMES.
Anyone saying it was genius or well done is lying to themselves. A good series can have bad ideas.
Yeah... that was fucking bad.

1. The anime community needs fewer women in it.
2. We need more lolicon and incest anime like Kodomo no Jikan, Kiss X Sis, and Yosuga no Sora.
3. Anime studios need to stop trying to appeal to international moral faggotry.
4. Shounen Jump sucks.
5. We need to gate-keep the anime community from Christian/Muslim zealots just as much as SJW's
6. We need to shut down localization companies and give the power to license and dub anime to the community.
7. Americans can't cosplay for shit due to being too fat.
8. Otakus and Weeaboos aren't the same.
9. The anime community needs fewer women in it.
10. The anime community needs fewer women in it.

Here we go a compilation:

1- I totally support lolis and shotas.

2- I genuinely don't care about pervs character as long as they don't do something that actually annoys me. I was in danganronpa fandom and this is an unpopular opinion there: I kinda like Hifumi and Teruteru and I fucking hate Miu.

3- I prefer characters with natural hair and eye color than unnatural ones.

4- Fanservice is good depending on how you do it.

Well, I don't know how unpopular those really are but these are some of my opnions.

Happy Sugar Life sucks and I don't understand why so many people like it.

The story is that a high school girl named Satou adopts an abandoned young girl named Shio, and she quickly becomes completely obsessed with her since this is the first time she's ever felt love. Keeping Shio a secret in her apartment room, Satou is willing to do anything to keep their "happy sugar life" afloat...no matter who or what stands in her way.

Okay, sounds like a great premise for a horror story, I'm interested to see where this goes. But here's my main problem with the show:

Despite having a sociopathic yandere with little to no morals as the main character, the show is too scared to have her do anything too evil. Almost every single time Satou does something morally wrong or crazy, it's targeted towards a complete monster who was clearly going to harm somebody unprovoked. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be morally wrong and she does what any person in her situation would do, like when she stun guns nameless npc thugs who were in the middle of beating up a small child for fun. So instead of "Oh no, this poor sucker got on the yandere's bad side", it's "Evil people kick the dog, and then they immediately get owned by my waifu. What karma!"

The best example of this is the original apartment room owner. In the first episode, Satou mentions how lucky they are to have this room, then the camera focuses on a bloody bag in the closet. So naturally, the audience assumes she murdered him so she could have the apartment all to herself. Then several episodes later, it turns out the room owner was right about to murder a sick Shio in her sleep and Satou only killed him in self-defense.

I guarantee the only reason why the scene is from the first person view of the room owner is because they realized this would like the 5th or 6th time somebody seemingly normal changes like a light switch, puts on their anime crazy face, and tries to hurt somebody innocent, so they wanted to disguise the repetition.

Imagine if in Halloween, (or really, any horror movie) the only people Michael Myers killed were crazy rapists and thugs instead of anybody likeable or interesting. By making Satou almost always justified in her actions, it becomes generic revenge porn instead of a horror anime with a unique and interesting premise.
I personally like HSL, but yeah, happy sugar life had many problems. Not only Satou is almost "never that evil" but the repetition of saying the name "HSL" is annoying and the characters somewhat act pretty forced and act unrealistic.

Naruto sucks.

I have wondered if any actual women come to this website.
I have wondered if any actual women come to this website. :zt-think:
Why wouldn't there be? There's probably some women with paraphilias using (possibly) shota to cope here. At least I am using loli.

Japanese culture sucks in a lot of ways and because of that, it has a tendency to be destructive towards actually creative shows and premises. Isekai comes to mind, especially a show like Grimgar where the answer of "Why are we here" faded into the background because a lot of nips would rather die than actually find a way to go back.

Anime hot takes? Sure.
-DB was better than DBZ
Yes, I know that the Z era coined a laundry list of shonen tropes... it doesn't make it better though.
-unnatural fanservice like the MC accidentally grabbing someone's boobs is just annoying
This isn't unpopular in the anime community at large but I suspect that it might be unpopular here.
The type of fanservice I like is when a girl bathes or changes her clothes and the based 'cameraman' focuses on certain parts of her body. That feels more natural.
-isekai where the MC is supposed to learn some vague life lesson before going back home
I despise this trope. It's not exclusive to isekai either, Western writers also do it sometimes. Imagine unironically wanting to go from being a supernatural ninja monster slayer to stocking empty shelves at Walmart because you've cherry picked a handful of good memories from your old boring life and repressed dozens of traumatic ones.
-SAO wasn't bad
At its worst (Alfheim Online) it was 5/10, imo the other arcs were 7/10 on average. Pretty good.
-One Piece has terrible worldbuilding
I've enjoyed reading the first 270ish chapters because of the fun characters, Oda's charming art style and humor not because the world made any damn sense. Sorry but a few factions with unexplored motives doesn't make a world complex, I mean after over 250 chapters the reader knows virtually nothing about the inner workings of a faction called 'The World Government'. That's bad... very very bad! Why is the government of the whole planet an enigma? lol

I've literally Hitler played D&D campaigns with deeper worldbuilding than OP.
