I’m not sure if anyone wants to know this, but HORIMIYA THE ANIME IS SHIT! SHITTTT!

shot2170.jpg

It was supposed to be an anime about teenagers, about kids having their first tastes of adulthood, of what’s it like. Hence big moves without proper consideration, shame, pain of choice or not making a choice – that’s what basically makes romcom a romcom. Instead of a teen Hori playing an adult we get and adult Hori playing a teen. Only several times over the entire show she behaves like her real self. And throughout the entire 12 episodes she switches between being smugly confident and feigned innocence.

Can you believe in this perma-confident adult Hori with an already squeaky voice?

The Hori in the anime is sometimes portrayed through cliche poses resembling Haruhi or someone from Rozen Maiden.

Kyon-kun, get up!
Do you think Father will be happy, Shinku?

Her boyfriend is as wooden as you could expect.

Surprisingly, the side characters are more wholesome than main ones. And the best among them would be Yoshikawa (who is not the girl on the video below).

But let’s get back to the main characters. The OVA has portrayed them younger, also Hori there had a voice actress who was 19 at the time (in the anime her VA was already 31), while in the story Hori herself is only 17.

Compare to how fake her insecurity is played in the anime:

Finally, despite all that details and rich scenery it barely feels lively. I’d say, that the details on the background even make the show worse, because when no one moves in the cadre, the attention just moves to the intricacy of the patterns, eyes simply get bored and looks for something interesting. The OVA doesn’t have such lush, of course, but it still features nice scenes, nice animation, it has the right approach, coming from drawing a perspective rather from drawing frames on beautiful backgrounds at the lowest cost possible.

Compare Hori’s house. It’s the very beginning, so here we must get an idea of what her house is like.

There’s volume in this.

Now let’s see what ten years of progress brought us…

Gee, a paper cutout! Can you guess, what’s there around the characters? What they’re sitting on? What’s that room like?

Another example: the scene where Sakura’s papers got thrown out of the window by the wind. This is supposed to be a romantic moment. Like, “their eyes first meet” etc.

I could go for another couple of screens about pluses and minuses of OVA and the TV, they both are worth watching (if not for the romance part, then for the comedy), but all in all remember that OVA >>> TV.

I think ... that everyone was aware of that :ohohoh:

I still do not see the OVAs so I can not say a lot about it

but the TV series was nothing good, the situations were hasty and it shows that the director was against the wall having to adjust a work he gave for more than 13 chapters in only 13 what workedly destroyed all the narrative and many things that passed felt spontaneous and / or forced
The main problem and that was one of the things that most displeased me is how characters appeared and then disappeared without taking time to empathize them but even so they got a 5 min story from them and then disappear and you were asking you. " It was necessary? `` `
Anyway, it was a terrible adaptation and I think that everybody would even realize this.

Mother's Rosario is a good arc of SAO, in fact I dare say it is the best arc of the series. :hibiki-chew:
I don't know, I felt like saying this

Inuyashiki was good and all the bad reviews are actually pointing out why its good.
Teenage girls getting horny over a mass murderer because he's hot? Check, happens in real life though in real life the mass murderers that get panties wet aren't even that hot tbh.
Ppl complain that the antagonist doesn't have some sort of sad backstory so they're like "why is he so evil without reason shit anime". The theme is all about juxtaposition, you get the ugliest fucker that loves a family who doesn't seem to love him back as the hero and you have the literally antisocial disorder kid with minimal troubles getting the same amount of powers. Edgy hotboy never wanted or needed a reason to be evil, he always was, now he just has the power to get away with it so the brakes are gone.
I guess this doesn't explain the ending but lets just disregard that. Anything to make me sound like I'm in the right.

tl;dr Inuyashiki is my "you only think it sucks because you're too dumb to understand it" anime.

the CG still wack tho lol

lol, why do you think that?
I'm way ahead because I read the manga (and previously read the light novel), and most of the character and plot decisions are retarded.

MC has barely grown and only shows to have grown when other people force him to.

The MC hasn't made any decision simply because he wants to, all of them have been because everyone tells him his ideas are stupid and he's stupid to act on them because he's so "weak" despite being one of the strongest magic users
(losing to a "god" doesn't count as being weak).

Nearly all the chicks come off more as annoying than compelling, even when they're directly improving themselves.

The story itself ends up nonsensical at multiple points and it's just brushed off as no big deal

(randomly sending off the mc as a child made no sense and the reason given was fucking stupid, nearly world ending event happening simply because of a teleport, Eris running off to be a "swordsman" because she couldn't kill a god just came off as wanting to run away).

This isn't even me bringing up the original light novel either which had even dumber decisions in it
just so the MC can end up with all three chicks.

All in all, it's just not worth the time to read/watch anymore because the series itself is just too idiotic most of the time. The only reason anyone is even watching the anime is because of abs, lolis, and loli sex scenes, which isn't worth it. If I wanted that I'd just watch porn.

edit: lol, nice formatting

well, I don't know what happens in the novel, I only follow the anime and at least I liked the first part.
I do think it's a bit overrated, but I found it entertaining at the very least and I generally enjoy anything with a good animation quality.

the narrative was very good and i guess that makes the series stand out a bit, because in the end lolis and ecchi can be found in any other isekai.
However I do consider that the anime is just an introduction and doesn't leave much room for a concrete opinion, so my opinion can change very easily in the future so I can't deny what you say.
for now I have good expectations, I hope you are wrong lol

when has anyone ever said slice of life is bad.
back before the "isekai boom" people are always bitching about started there was a lot of people going off in the same way about SoL and "moe" type shows after that blew up with things like K-on, "cute girls doing cute things" was looked at the same way people look at isekai now and made a lot of the same arguments, "all these shows are the same", "it's over saturating anime production", "ITS BAD CUZ ITS A TREND" etc

and I'm gonna use this to spring into my own hot take, people need to shut the fuck up about how there are too many isekais. as I've pointed out before it's just the new hot trend people have noticed and naturally, people have to be contrarians and hate on whatever is viewed as popular at any given time.

it gets even funnier when you talk to people who only know about anime and don't read or care about source materials. as if you have been following the trends in LNs and WNs you would have seen this anime Isekai boom coming like a decade ago. soon as LNs got seen as being profitable to be adapted into animes it was inevitable.

if people are sick of them. just don't watch them, find something else to watch, go back and watch old shit and stop getting suckered into only watching seasonal anime

its gonna been interesting when the next hot trend sweeps the market and everyone just memory holes isekais, based on what I've been hearing and thanks to redo doing so well its possible that the new hot thing is gonna be "revenge stories", but only time will tell

also if you want a nice visual representation of what I'm talking about, this is a timeline a bro of mine made that shows where all these ieskais are coming from and you can see the boom slowly trickle down into anime

I was but a wee retard during these times and didn't watch anime. Must've been fun being on /a/ during these times

based. I can understand being annoyed by oversaturation, and wanting to see something new, but it's a thing that happens in any industry. When you see something making money you wanna cash in.
You're allowed to complain of course, it'd be incredibly hypocritical of me to say "stop bitching all the time" when that's like 98% of this sites purpose, but i think it's fair to say it gets annoying no matter what the topic.

Personally, i can always enjoy a isekai, it's just fantasy except the character also has knowledge from our world. It's relatable, wanting to escape to a 'better" place

A bit unrelated but man I really enjoy isekais like GATE, where we take modern infrastructure and political ideas to a medieval world. Really love those kinda stories. Read a LN (The Realist Hero... and oh my fucking god I just looked it up and it got an anime wew https://myanimelist.net/anime/41710/Genjitsu_Shugi_Yuusha_no_Oukoku_Saikenki ) that sorta focused on that before moving to a more generic harem plot.

NHK and Lucky Star are always great rewatches

with that. It's time for my unpopular opinion.

I don't like Evangelion, i think it's dumb.

yea like you dont have to like it. the problem I have is so many people are just hating on it for the sake of hating on it without even considering why what's happening is in the first place. it gets annoying to see people who have no idea what they are talking about going off about how there is to mutch of X right now while having no idea the factors going into japans business decisions.

an ieskai is not bad cuz it's a ieskai it's bad on its own merits just like any over show

and I think it's due to something I've coined "anime tunnel vision" where you have fake weebs who only watch anime and nothing else running around like "WHY IS THERE SO MANY ISEKAI AND NOT WHAT I WANT" and due to not knowing where the anime comes form have no idea this isekai boom has been in the works for the better part of a decade and it should be no shock these series are getting adapted now. people think animez just kinda materialize out of thin Japanese fart air

what people need to do is stop watching anime weekly, stop watching only seasonal airing shit, go back and watch some of the thousands upon thousands of anime that have come out since the 80s and stop thinking you are forced to watch whatever the mainstream is watching so you can "be part of the conversation"

this is ALL bullshit engineered by shitty streaming sites like Crunchyroll to try to get you to stay subbed to them so you can watch shit every week, when you could just batch torrent something when its done airing and watch it at your own pace

Yep, when I first started watching anime I was a complete normalfag when it came to anything related to it. I mean I watched Gigguk and MB and for whatever fucking reason took their word as the truth. So despite never seeing SAO I'd shit on it like I was a literary professor, who'd carefully examined every frame of it.
which leads into...

Absolutely, I'm guessing most of these people only watch what's popular, and don't really go out to find what they like. You can already see it happen on twitter, where leftists bitch about anime being "non-inclusive" or whatever the fuck (Despite the fact most/all Asian countries are fairly homogenous, and not multi-cultural like the USA, and as such have 0 reason to appeal to some nigger in the Sudan), or on the other hand people like how I was, who use these "anitubers" and take their word as gospel for one reason or another.

Sadly most of these people are normalfags and probably don't even know how to torrent, and are just watching shit on Crunchyroll/Funimation. I can't imagine anyone that's torrenting is falling for the seasonal memes.

oh lol i completely missed this sentence.
Yes I agree 100% with this sentiment.

Liberate the anime watchers, you have nothing to lose but shitty translations, inadequate websites, outdated and 98% of the time broken front and backends, and poor quality anime.
and of course you gain an extra 12 bucks a month, that you can then spend on some anime merch, or blurays to make up for your pirating :flan-yea:
