Since isekai doesn't seem to be very popular around here, I'll try other genres, I don't know if I'll create a thread for each thematic genre probably not since I'm very lazy, so if someone wants to go ahead with another genre they like/hate go ahead.

I don't have an interesting introduction for this genre so I'll get straight to the point.
as in the other thread you can start by answering some of these questions.
  1. What do you think of the genre?
  2. Which yuri have you watch hat are the worst and why?
  3. which yuri do you like the most or do you think are the best and why?
  4. Do you think the genre is declining in popularity? [had this question any sense here?]
  5. if u like yuri, why u like it?
  6. if u dislike yuri, why u dislike it?
of course also feel free to recommend any yuri or add anything else you want.

*I put the thread in the Anime section of the forum because I think it's the most general way to approach this topic, but, if the moderators allow it of course, feel free to cover novels, games and manga as well.
Anime is also the section I know the most about, so...

in the isekais thread I didn't do this but at least I should do it here lol
1. I love the yuri genre, so far I've enjoyed all the series I've seen centered on this [which are not many to be honest], although I've always watched any kind of anime, since quiets years ago I've started to develop a strong attraction for this kind of anime... a quite dangerous one. :heh:
2. I think the worst, and one that was quite overrated at the time, is Citrus, don't get me wrong, I like Citrus up to a certain point, but it has a lot of problems that I can't ignore, maybe another one would be Akuma no Riddle. :anime-think:
3. of the ones I have seen and focusing specifically on yuri romance, and not as something secondary, the one I liked the most is Yagate Kimi ni Naru, which is quite recent. It is a very nice anime, which shows some simple problems in a very curious way and reflects them very well in the protagonist, which in fact is an excellent main character, the good thing about this anime is how well raised is the mentality of the characters and their evolution within the things that happen to them, also has the plus of having an excellent production. There are also the well known classics Sakura Trick and Sasameki koto.
4. well I don't know if this question has any meaning here since this genre has never been a particularly popular one, but I do feel that people are slowly confusing yuri with any moe anime, and actually many of these anime have some yuri touches [and I'm not complaining] but I do feel that the classic style of romance is being left aside a little bit... but well this is just my own rant.
5. because yuri has cute girls kissing and that's cute and it stimulates my heart and my emotions and .... ok no one is believing this shit.:kyoko-smug: we all know why I see yuri anime.
Edit: I said that, but I think really are cute and emotional :nana-thumb:
6. if you can answer this question then you are not human. :hibiki-chew:

I am not an expert in yuri anime so any recommendation is always welcome. :nana-thumb:
some recommendations that I can make from some of the lesser known ones are:
Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke wo: one of the few hentai yuri I've ever seen, there are two series and short episodes, I think I should take a look at the manga.
Ga-Rei: Zero: I don't know but I loved this series when I saw it many years ago, although I don't remember too much and the series is somewhat complex and confusing.
Kuttsukiboshi: are two short OVAs that tell a small but nice story, don't expect much quality in the production, it's practically an amateur project.

Edit: I leave this image here because... I don't know, because it's cute.

Now we're speaking my language. I finally have an opportunity to proselytize the unwashed masses to the one true genre.

Yuri is without question my favorite genre, one that I enjoy tremendously and consider personally relevant. Seeing two (or more) cute girls express a genuine romance for each other just gets my neurons firing without fail, and it's something I never tire of as even the most basic, overplayed tropes and executions are perfectly enjoyable to me. In general, the genre does so well to emphasize the beauty of femininity, connection, and mutual appreciation, characteristics not absent from fictional straight relationships yet no where in my opinion as intense or gratifying.

The worst part of the genre isn't even an inherent charateristic of it but rather the unfortunate reality of its scarcity. It's as hard life having to subsist for the most part on undertones or bridges which may or may not even exist between characters thoroughout a variety of series, but that does tend to make releases of fully-fledged yuri titles all the more thrilling.

I do not consider the genre at all to be declining in popularity, rather quite the opposite. We are seeing more yuri series put out nowadays than ever before, though the fact does remain that proper executions of the genre in anime (i.e. stronger than undertones) are few and far between. It's understandable to an extent, as the primary audience for anime as a whole still consists of young Japanese boys who are more likely to prefer characters with straight relationships either through personal taste or as a way to self-insert. Such is the way of things, but yuri is very much alive in written and drawn form.

There exists a few yuri anime worth note, though the quinessential ones to watch would be Yagate Kimi ni Naru and Sakura Trick as already mentioned. A wholesome series that involves loli would be Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san, one of those short and sweet slice-of-life joints. Strawberry Panic is also very pleasant and one features the older mid-2000's style animation if that is to your liking.

When it comes to manga, there's really no absence of good material to read, and you can find a lot of what you might want on either MangaDex or Dynasty Scans. There's also a great deal of yuri anthologies available as many stories end up being short and focusing on a specific relationship rather than multiple. Éclair is one I own a physical copy of that's quite excellent and well-worth a read. Yuri Kuma Arashi is one series I don't see brought up often, but it's pretty damn enjoyable and one of the few comedy yuri out there. Gamma is also a complete story on its own that also incorporates yuri into the story through character relations.

It's also worth mentioning that there exist a great deal of high quality yuri in both manhua (Chinese) and manhwa (Korean) form. Similarly, pivoting a bit slightly, webtoons are also a great resource as well. Mage & Demon Queen is easily one of the most popular and well-received yuri webtoons, one that I haven't read personally but have had recommended to be many times over.

Another good source of yuri not yet mentioned is visual novels, which was not mentioned in the original post. Kindred Spirits on the Roof is one of the most comprehensive and well-received stories and is arguably a good starting point for anyone seeking to get into the VN space. Seven days with the Ghost is an adult yuri visual novel with an interesting cast of characters that was made by a group from 2ch. Highway Blossoms is a short but comfy classic with really cute art. There's honestly so much out there to read and so little time to enjoy it.

I could certainly go on and on about my love for girls' love, but I'll leave it there for now. If anyone wants further recommendations for yuri anime, manga, visuals novels, artists, or anything else really, let me know!

Uuh, I like yuri, but I’m not err… ready to write as much letters as the form in the op post suggests. Half the answers would probably be “ok” and “just because”. Why not just throw in some simple thesis like
> I like X and if you don’t, fuck you.
and let passers by start a shitstorm, or even
> YURI THREAD GO!
(reaction guaranteed).

gratifying... yeah that's a good word to describe it, straight romance can be good, but yuri romance is very gratifying.
The worst part of the genre isn't even an inherent charateristic of it but rather the unfortunate reality of its scarcity. It's as hard life having to subsist for the most part on undertones or bridges which may or may not even exist between characters thoroughout a variety of series, but that does tend to make releases of fully-fledged yuri titles all the more thrilling.
it is also very sad that they rarely anime cover the whole story or receive a sequel.
it's good to see that some very good works like the one in the picture you uploaded [Princess Principal] are doing so well. This is a series I forgot to mention but it is highly recommended, a somewhat mysterious style of Victorian and stempunk era combined with a Yuuki Kaijura soundtrack and excellent heroines, a great work, I can't wait to watch the movies.

oooh it's good to have someone so knowledgeable on the subject, excellent recommendations thanks.
Yuri Kuma Arashi has an anime as well What do you think about it? I haven't seen it so I'll reserve an opinion for now.

I recently watched Urasekai Picnic
is recommended
is a peculiar series, although the yuri relationship is not its main strength.
It's a mystery series or something like that which is quite interesting to watch.

if anyone is interested in more details without spoilers, in pleroma I wrote a long opinion about the series.

as a bonus Kayanon plays the blonde :hinata-hyper: ++
and opening by CHICO with HoneyWork

What do you think of the genre?
i don't like yuri but it's a common element in CGDCT anime so i tolerate it unless it becomes too much.
Which yuri have you watch [t]hat are the worst and why?
i tried watching mariana friends but got filtered by all the blushing and prolonged eye contact between the two and how awkward it felt. watched a few episodes of flip flappers at a friend's insistence but really couldn't get into it.
which yuri do you like the most or do you think are the best and why?
gakkou gurashi had one and it made me empathize with the relationship the girls had. i thought it was touching how much they cared for each other so i overlooked the GL aspect of it.
if u dislike yuri, why u dislike it?
i just don't like the idea of cute girls being off limits to a heterosexual partner and prefer a male love interest that i can at least self-insert as. having a cute anime girl with a lovable personality and then deciding she's lesbian really ruins it for me. it's like making a glorious stack of pancakes and pouring laxative syrup all over it... actually, that would still be a more enjoyable experience to me. lol

well for someone who doesn't like yuri you took your time to enter the post which is not very flashy and makes it clear that things about yuri will be discussed, you read the main post and also answered each of the questions... lol

don't get me wrong i appreciate that you answered and i made the main post with intentions that people who didn't care about yuri would reply too, that's why i added the question if u dislike yuri, why u dislike it? with intention of debate. so don't take my reply wrong and let me give an answer to your comment please.

i don't like yuri but it's a common element in CGDCT anime so i tolerate it unless it becomes too much.
I think cute girls having romantic interactions that highlight their innocence, blushing when touching or even going further, protecting each other [or the tachi protecting the neko which is the most classic formula of the genre],
especially in a colorful and moe atmosphere.
both girls showing their pure and innocent love without losing their maximum expression of femininity... my god right now I can't think of anything cuter made by cute girls.
i mean it's a common thing in moe anime exactly because it's extremely cute.
a good example is the classic Sakura Trick, it's one of the most moe anime i've ever seen precisely because its characters are extremely adorable and attractive, and seeing them kissing on the sly is addictive.

...can it be that I'm the only one who sees this as extremely cute? :nana-bulb:
i tried watching mariana friends but got filtered by all the blushing and prolonged eye contact between the two and how awkward it felt. watched a few episodes of flip flappers at a friend's insistence but really couldn't get into it.
I don't think Manaria Friends is a good way to make inroads into yuri
the truth is that if you consider that you are not interested in the genre at all there is nothing I can recommend because in the end what you are not going to like is the homosexual interaction between the two girls.
actually I can think of something to recommend, I don't know if this is a full-fledged yuri anime, but it has quite a bit of yuri theme, it's not very moe but it's a very funny and quirky anime with nice aniamtion and designs by studios Shaft.
Maria†Holic
in theory the main relationship is straight, but it's a girl school and the main character openly likes girls, whenever I go to watch a yuri I remember this series, hoping to find a protagonist as funny as this one, so maybe you'll like it?
gakkou gurashi had one and it made me empathize with the relationship the girls had. i thought it was touching how much they cared for each other so i overlooked the GL aspect of it.
gakkou gurashi is an excellent and highly recommended series, although I would not recommend it as yuri, but I really liked its psychological theme and how they work it within that cute and slice of life environment.
i just don't like the idea of cute girls being off limits to a heterosexual partner and prefer a male love interest that i can at least self-insert as. having a cute anime girl with a lovable personality and then deciding she's lesbian really ruins it for me. it's like making a glorious stack of pancakes and pouring laxative syrup all over it... actually, that would still be a more enjoyable experience to me. lol
so basically you are not interested in the homosexual relationship.
well this is just my opinion and maybe it's just me but in general I'm much more uncomfortable with heterosexual relationships in anime than yuri ones, especially when you have a male character... normal.
that's probably why I tend to like shoujo rom-coms starring a girl more.:anime-think:

yes I understand that you probably didn't mean this but well

sorry for the double post :uni-scare:

these days I've seen several yuri animes, in fact I'm really into the genre lately.
of them I have two that I found interesting enough to recommend.

1. Adachi to Shimamura
1632627926947.jpeg

is a work by the author of Yagate kimi ni naur, if you like the last one you will also like this one.
is a rather slow but very nice romance story with two excellent protagonists where the author's style of showing many internal monologues of the characters is noticed.
Its good points are its excellent narrative, showing things from the perspective of the two protagonists with extensive internal monologues, and its two protagonists themselves, they are adorable and have a lot of personality, also its soundtrack is very good.
I shared an extensive opinion in pleroma too, in case anyone is interested in more details.

2. Shuumatsu no Izetta
1632628564011.png

1632626830130.png

I don't know whether to consider this yuri, but the series is good, so who cares?
its best point is its story which is quite straightforward and goes for detours with a conclusive ending.
The soundtrack is amazing and production is considerably good.
I shared an opinion too when I saw it
also have good Op and Ed, especially ending

A yuri thread! :cultured:

I enjoy the genre a lot! And I mean A LOT! I read yuri/shoujo ai more than shounen nowadays. Just that a tend to find yuri more enjoyable. It makes me care for the characters a lot. However, there is a troupe that kinda annoys me at times, but I think it's more an issue of the medium than the genre itself. Misunderstandings. I get that this keeps the drama and gives you that feeling of "oh shit how they gonna clear this mess up?", but some cases do irritate me. Now, there are quite a few that are more of a comedic relief and I am fine with those. I mean the more dramatic ones. The manga/anime that are more on the drama side tend to have more of these (obviously :asui-what:), but sometimes a misunderstanding happens right after clearing a huge one. That pisses me off. Don't get me wrong though, I love the genre. :gurayaya:

I think it's a genre that it is still rising in popularity. I was very surprised that some manga like Yagate Kimi ni Naru and Citrus got to be animated.

Damn, I forgot that Adachi to Shimamura got animated, I need to watch that. Thanks for reminding me. :gurayaya:

Also, Shuumatsu no Izetta I watched when it came out (or binge watched at the end of the season it came out) and I enjoyed it. I think the premise at the beginning was better than the conclusion but overall it was quite enjoyable. I think it could be considered yuri, though through most of the show the relationship between Izetta and the princess (who I don't recall her name) is heavily implied but never "fulfilled", except maybe before the final battle and at the end. It's difficult because there are shows/manga where it feels like romance but the author states that 2 characters are simply friends even though at moments it feels very much that there might be something else. And I don't mean like dumb fanbases seeing (sexual) relationship between any interaction of 2 characters.

Mind you I read manga much more that I watch anime, so I'll stick to those recommendations. Also I'll try to stick to recommendations beyond those already mentioned here and I'll keep information to a minimum as to not spoil anything.
  • Hana ni Arashi: Ongoing. Two friends that become lovers. At least in this one the story already start with both as girlfriends (though there are flashbacks before this happened) so some of the troupes of the genre are not immediately present.
  • Hino-san no Baka: Ongoing. Now goes more on the suggestive/hinting side of the genre, but feelings are definitely there. :korone-smug:
  • Kyou mo Onnanoko wo Kouryaku shita (or She Gets Girls Everyday): Completed. In a certain sense it's basically a yuri harem. :hyper-honk:
  • Asagao to Kase-san: Completed. Flourist girl falls in love with tomboy of the athletic team.
  • Yamada to Kase-san: Ongoing. Continuation of the previous one, but set in college.
  • Strawberry Fields Once Again: Finished publishing but not fully translated (I think). Protagonist is basically stalked by a time-travelling, air-headed girl.

Thanks for the manga recommendations.
I rarely read manga and usually only read finished works, but I see that there are three such choices on the list so I'll take a look at them soon, so I can vary a bit the anime I watch and continue to consume yuri works. :cat-blush:
With the recommendations of the two of you I'll have material for quite some time.:nep-happy:

I think that wataten and watachi no maid ga uza sugiru have not been mentioned right?. :anime-think:

what do you guys think of Netsuzou TRap, I haven't read the manga but the anime although it had potential I felt it was a bit empty or incomplete maybe. :anime-think:

Oh yeah. I thought I saw Wataten in the thread so I didn't mention it.

Netsuzou TRap is difficult. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it has a GOOD amount of drama. I dropped halfway through. I did want to pick it up again when the anime was announced, but other stuff got in the way. Btw, this author often does drama-heavy works. And as the capital letters suggest, there is NTR.

More manga recommendations:
  • Mutually Unrequited Twin Sisters: Ongoing. Quite funny and very cute.
  • Tadokoro-san: Ongoing. Very good. Awkward, artist protagonist falls in love with popular girl in class. There is also a web comic (updated more frequently).
  • Cheerful Amnesia: Completed. Protagonist has accident and forgets she is in a relationship with her girlfriend. Despite this plot, it is VERY light hearted and funny.
  • A Girl whose Breasts are a Little Big and is Kinda Pretty: Not sure if there will be more chapters, but I guess not. There are just two very small chapters. Same author as Jahy-sama or The Maid I Recently Hired is Suspicious.
  • Sekai de Ichiban Oppai ga Suki: Ongoing. Physical copies also available through Yen Press and it is called Breasts are my Favorite Things in the World!. Protagonist has big breasts and tomboy girl likes her (for her breasts). Also same author as Jahy-sama or The Maid I Recently Hired is Suspicious.
  • Useless Princesses: Completed. I also have the first two physical volumes (translated by Seven Seas and the title is Failed Princesses). Quite some drama, especially towards the end, but it was the right amount for me. Enjoyed it a lot.
  • Zettai Watashi no Koto Suki Daro (or You are Totally in Love with Me, Right?): Ongoing. Very good and funny! I like it a lot. I also have physical copies (in Japanese though).
  • Girl Friends: Completed. There is translated physical copies (don't release through which publication) and name is the same. One of the first yuri manga (outside of oneshots) I read. Quite a lot of drama, but it has a special place in my heart.
  • Umineko Sou Days: Completed. Somewhat short and there is some drama but not a lot of it. Quite good! Same author as Netsuzou TRap.
  • Yuzumori-san: Completed. High school girl falls in love with loli. A bit of drama iirc (it's been quite a while since I read it).
Honorable mentions (all ongoing):
My Stepsister's Social Media
There's No Way I can Have a Lover or Maybe There is?
Moshi Koi ga Mieta Nara

Once again sorry for only manga recommendations, but like I said I read much more manga than I watch anime for some time now.

Edit: Added one more manga recommendation thanks to a profile picture from a user of the forum. :hinata-hyper:

:hinata-hyper:
ok wtf with some of those names :cirno-laugh:

I was wondering for a while whether to read the manga, as I felt it could be good and that anime just didn't adapt it well, but seeing that no one mentioned it I wondered if they didn't like it, netsuzou trap i mean. although I don't know if the manga is finished either.

its ok thanks for all these recommendations‼️ :ro-excited:

I see I was mentioned in this thread (Im the dude who learned English from Xena Warrior Princess yuri fanfics years ago) so I made an account and decided to drop in some reccomendations. I tried to avoid already mentioned titles and oneshots, but no promises, this is gonna be a long post.

Fuzoroi no Renri Alcoholic OL MC starts dating a "deliquent" waitress, they live together. It has a side stories manga thats ongoing.

Itoshi Koishi Latest Takemiya Jin's work featured in Yurihime (be prepared for more of those Im a huge fan of her manga) featuring a highschool girl and her employed older girlfriend, its kino

Lonely Girl ni Sakaraenai nothing too special, highschool setting yuri between a good student and one that skips classes, worth a read.

Kyou kara Mirai highschool, 2 girls, photography, light NTR elements in later chapters. Decent.

Koushin Koinu ni Koibumi wo Military school, MC is an orphan, yuri elements are light but present.

Tsuki to Suppin more "mature" look into yuri dating between 2 adults, its more SoL than most.

Otherside picnic This got an anime recently iirc, its more "stalker" and less yuri but its a good manga if you like weird horror style shit

Otome no Teikoku one of my favourite yuri manga ever, following daily lives of multiple couples in a girl school. It has ecchi, it is funny, it is cute. Go read it right fucking now.

Tamen de Gushi Chinese mango about 2 highschool girls dating and random school shenanigans. Its fun

YuriCam absolute masterpiece of a manga, hilarious in every espect. MC is a straight girl in a college where women fall for her, plot twist is shes also poor af so she acts like a gold digger to not starve. It has ecchi in tonnes and its really fun how her character evolves until she embraces the fact.

Trash horror/gore mango, has yuri elements, ending sucks, read Murcielago instead

Murcielago Read this instead of Trash, yall probably already know about it anyway.

Beauty and the Beast Yuri with a monstergirl and a blind chick, fantasy setting, fairly comfy

Bloom into you idk if it was mentioned before, one of the most well known yuri manga/anime out there. Pretty good if slow at times.

Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw absolute insanity and gore in manga form. Highly reccomended, it has a trash tier Live action movie thats worth a watch if you can find it anywhere just to laugh at it, also has a sequel thats ongoing called "Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw: Reflesh"

Fragment Takemiya Jin, wont write much info about these cause they are fairly short and obviously yuri (also Id have to reread them all to remember the plotlines)

Dousei Seikatsu married couple Yuri, cute

Fu-Fu Same as above but with more emphasis on cute, comfy read

Fujouri na Atashitachi Takemiya Jin, OL MC, a bit darker take (which is common for her)

Girls Ride 2 girls, 2 bikes, traveling, light yuri

Girlish Sweet Omnibus of Takemiya Jin interconnected oneshots

Graphite Takemiya Jin again, school setting

Hana to Hoshi HS yuri with a sport angle (table tennis) good

Teiji ni Agaretara Yuri with office setting

Ki ni Naru Anu Ko office setting, one chick is part tree, its a bit weird but decent (also really short)

Kirakira Takemiya Jin

Kurogane Pukapuka Tai absolute Kino, set in ww2 on a destroyer ship. daily hijinks of the all female crew with some reccuring characters (like german Uboot captain who never bathes or British battleship captain who is the agressive lesbian trope) really fun read

Lilium Terrarium a collection of oneshots

Lily Extremely long chinese manhwa focusing on highschool girls. Translation kinda sucks in places and pacing is SLOW but its nice

Love/Death 2 yanderes, thats it

Omoi no Kakera Takemiya Jin, ending is nice, story is believable.

Okujou pikapika romance 5 stories, loosely connected together. HS setting

Octave Former idol meets a composer, drama ensues

My Broken Mariko This one is dark, girl investigates the suicide of her old friend and ex-gf, psychological

Poor Poor Lips comedy, MC is a poorfag and works for a lesbo jewelry shop owner

Prison Town e Youkoso fantasy style prison yuri manga. good and completed

Renai Manga as title says, its manga themed

Seasons collection of Takemiya Jins stories

Sensei ni wa Mada Iwanai MC wants to fuck her gym teacher

Shitsurakuen Battle royale where girls are weapons. Weird premise but a fun mango

Soulmate Chinese, Timetravel and diabetes (of the renal failure variety not cute variety)

Shoujo Junrei MC admires a mangaka, mangaka is her new neighbour, shes all but admireable

Steps another of Takemiya Jin serializations in Yurihime, great story but youll have to hunt for other parts since this is part 2

Gosick Office setting, MC has a secret (draws yuri) coworker finds out

Ikemen Sugi Desu Shiki Senpai "reverse trap" setting, MC is female but her "girlfriend" doesnt know for a while

Want to sell me your body MC is in a fuckton of debt, loan shark offers to buy her.

Tsukiatte Agetemo li ka na College setting, characters are all well developed and likeable

Yaezakura Sympathy Takemiya Jin, Highschool setting, Teacher x Student

And as a last adition, anything from Ratana Satis.
Pulse, Lily love and Lily love 2
Sadly I cant find these fuckers on MAL or Anilist since they are serialized by Lezhin iirc and Vietnamese

Damn this took a while to write and I probably forgot a bunch of manga, anyway. Enjoy.
