Yesterday I noticed on my feed that PSO2NGS got hit with a recent controversy, thought it was just a lack of updates but no its moreso of the announcement that they'll have to impose stricter measures to curb harassment between players. Naturally, this divided the playerbase between those who support it(if only to curb global player shenanigans at most) and those who oppose it(since it can be easily abused), with some groups using the rule to go on power trips and ban people they dont like sometimes out of revenge. Then you have the tourists who come and see the shitshow and over-conflate the mess even worse(PSO2 was known for its fanservice due to the unlimited char customization, yes you can make your playable loli in the game). Sure, its mostly on Global side rather than the OG JP side but I'm worried the shit spills over and... you get the point. If it is anything, it might be a good idea to focus less on the impact and more on the fallout from the whole mess at least.

The source of the shitstorm + Shizu's take on it:

One more take by RGE which is just the same thing:

Someone's reason behind the whole statement

EDIT:

How the moderation team bans work, which is stupid(though I wonder how much of this is SEGA's fault beyond the actions of the mod team):

Also the guy who reported him dropped the n-word in for good measure:

Well that's a shame, I remember seeing a video of it's character editor, and it looked pretty cool.

Also recent customer reviews on steam don't look too great, but no review bomb so far.

This is why this online game shouldn't release for console and just stay on pc...
In all fairness PSO2 was open for both the Vita long before the SJW takeover and now the Nintendo Switch.

If Global's on fire, at least there's JP version(lots more cosmetics + added features you wont see in a global release). TBH I'm hoping no review bombing. Last thing I want to see is Global shutting down out of sheer negative press(not even with Blizzard-level controversy, just this) which would just give these clowns ideas.

Man, current year is terrible for gaming. I got into PSO2 a few months back because I thought it was interesting and it might have a rich history and future like Monster Hunter (even MH is potentially starting downhill with MHRise). But now here we are witnessing them appeal to the lowest common denominator with the run-of-the-mill virtue signaling. Watching all this unfold just makes me happy I stopped.

I will be happy if PSO2 succeeds, but I will also be happy if it fails and gets the plug pulled. The former because I think it's an interesting universe and they have a solid foundation to make something that could compete with FF14, but also, it's SEGA, so when NGS dies I'll also be celebrating and laughing at them digging their own hole. At this point I'm hoping it dies. Also I heard the JP playerbase complained to federal business affairs about SEGA sucking. They had a super out-of-touch survey at one point literally just asking people, "Why aren't you spending on our game?" rather than, "How can we improve the game?" Buncha jokers.

Detractors point at Steam/PC not being the only platform people play on so the drop in players means nothing, but it is damn well going downhill. Not to mention the terrible precedent set by the god awful justification for bans. I remember having a conversation about bans vs encouraging players to block, mute, and ignore, and everyone thought I was crazy for advocating the latter was a superior solution, lol. Oh well, it is what it is. People keep scratching (gacha for cosmetics via "scratch tickets"), SEGA keeps milking. Consoomers gonna consoom.

The character creator is something another game could replicate for great success, though. It's got that going for it, at least, but there's so little game you just play dress up with your character. I tried out FF14 for a bit on a free week(end?), but the gameplay and character creator were not my taste. I want an action MMO that will actually allow you to go all-out with character customization with a similar or better system like how PSO2 does it. On top of base outfits you can equip, you also have multiple accessories that can be anchored to different joints on a character then resized, rotated, and offset however you choose. It's quite indepth and I don't think I've seen a non-H game with that much freedom yet (ofc, it has room to improve). But oh well, it is what it is. :hinata-acid:

It probably doesn't need to be said, but don't play PSO2; it's not worth your time. You could probably have wayy more fun character making by modding Skyrim or Honey Select. The latter actually has the accessory system, but it's just an H game. I'm looking for a character creator like that, but also running around and doing badass shit like Monster Hunter, NieR, Nioh, DMC, Souls, etc.

Eh, thing is they already have a roadmap planned out till December with big content updates, so its too early to tell if the game would succeed or not. Also I heard the first episode was run by an odd director of theirs, so one December hits then we'll get to see what's going on at PSO2NGS. My biggest gripe right now is people jumping ship when there's a direction planned yet unable to speed things up either due to costs or out of fear that it'll fuck with the players even more.

Yea I understand that PSO2NGS right now has not much to do, yet to ditch it before the major update starts would be a shame. Hopefully when December picks up we'll get a lot more content going out. Can't say the same for the Global mod team, I have a hunch they're using SEGA as a meat shield for their shitty acts. If you're gonna point the problems, point em at the source, not the whole.

I could just be more critical of it than others, but you would have to be dishonest to not admit that the game is on a downward trend. I understand that there is something big to look forward to in the future, but you are only seeing that as the silver lining. In reality, the red flags have been all over the place, and you can see where SEGA's priorities lie. Instead of immediately trying to crack down on bots and red-boxxers, they instead cared more about NPC names and people saying bad words online. Even worse, there were exhorbitant amounts of lag and the game is not optimized to utilize the GPU (apparently it's very CPU bound). It's even got texture LOD issues, as well as model popping sometimes. There are more important things to do, but SEGA is more focused on the virtue signaling. The ultimate red flag was this little hate awareness campaign. Instead of making a better game, they put out a fancy text image as an attempt to boost visibility via virtue signal. The value of the winter update goes down every time they provide you the proof of what they prioritize in the face of the existing product. Can the winter update save the game and set it on an upward trend? Yes, it can, but what are the chances of it? Possible =/= probable.

Even worse, roadmaps don't even guarantee quality. You only get a promise of a time frame for releases, of which the customer has no ability to influence the upholding of the promise. Observe the trend of AAA games in the previous few years; how much promise does a roadmap actually hold? Very little. Customers are entitled to a good product, but product owners are not entitled to customers. SEGA having a "direction planned" means nothing when the current product being presented is just gacha bait. It's no one's problem but SEGA's. Small indie company, please understand /s. Additionally, time is valuable, so people jumping ship early is completely justified. Why waste your time on a game with no more than a few hours of actual content that hinges on FOMO (limited time gambling!!!) and daily/weekly quests that just inflate the game economy? Those customers can go to something like FFXIV or do something productive IRL.

And to be fair, does the game have its merits? Yes, I quite like the combat, the universe, the ideas, and I clearly like the character creation. But it stops there; there is no substance beyond just trying to fashion up your character and then git gud at fighting a few boss AI (btw gigas have no important changes; only stats and a purple lightning shader on the model). It's a bummer, but I feel no shame in contributing to the self-feeding downward spiral of "dead game," because while the game has so much potential, none of it is being tapped into. It's undeserving of occupying people's time, and you'd need some real optimism or blind faith in the company (that by the way, only cares about your money, not the enjoyment and fulfillment of the game).

Like I said, if the winter update does turn the game around, great. But I'm not holding my breath. I got titties to draw.

My apologies if I'm being blind on some parts, but yet if that's the case why bother playing anything at all? You might as well give these clowns their free win at telling you that you cant play games anymore because they suck. Which in this case is what their long-term goals are(if they have any at all). Part of the whole SJW charade I feel is to make sure you'll become a nitpicky no-fun guy like themselves, if as a final 'fuck you' when you push through their shit. Sure, real optimism doesn't solve everything but so isn't 100% pessimism either.

Also you mistake SEGA as a single entity where SEGA is run people who had more people working under them. SEGA can't choose it, does the director or the investors/CEO have a say on whether its the right call to virtue-signal? The mod team and guy running the twitter can bark all they want, but when the higher-ups finally catch them with their pants down would they even agree to such blatant nonsense? You could say it'll help out with sales and such but would they even know the full details behind what the mod team proposed? Doesn't help that with nonsense COVID around + dumb regulations SEGA can't boot them out else they'll make their wounds worse for wear. Would be nice to be able to find the same tricks these clowns got into the game industry and use them to the max though.

Speaking of Roadmaps: Honestly what makes FFXIV's roadmap much more viable than NGS'? If you say that roadmaps don't guarantee quality then you have all the right to go ham on theirs as much as you want. Anyhow, enjoy drawing titties my man, would love to see what cha working on.

EDIT: Did this all cos I feel my post could be better + bad habbits I really gotta curb.

Every game's roadmap is equally invaluable, only offering a rough timeframe of what to expect. But FFXIV's track record gives the playerbase more assurance to the quality and delivery of the updates. That's the key part: the track record. Past behavior is one of the strongest predictors of future behavior, which NGS is lacking on.

Ahh, that's fair. Not much can be done but hope that NGS gets a better track record from there.

Sadge, I really liked the game's character creator. Although I haven't played it much because of my gacha priorities, but dayum i wanted to smear my coom inside the character I created
