Happenings Halo composer Martin O'Donnell forced to shut down Youtube channel

Archived tweet from his twitter account, @MartyTheElder (Community post from his own youtube channel in question) In another recent tweet, he also mentions that he is thinking of retiring for good from the games industry. Yet another tweet simply says "Ask Pete Parsons". Background...

    Megathread Poor Localization Compilation Thread

We should at least be thankful that a portion of people found it terrible. I kind of regret linking the reddit thread: it created unnecessary anger here when we all already know that there exists people who defend this sort of localization. I would imagine them simply caring more about...

    Megathread Poor Localization Compilation Thread

So I just personally finished Higurashi Gou, and was going through some reddit threads about it. Lo and behold, someone spotted another translation error. (Link is here, but I'll explain in the post.) Reminder: this is the person we're dealing with. Now for the actual mistake: In episode 1...

Hololive Kiara appearing alongside Vshojo Vtubers at DigiKomi 2021

Posting because it might blow up. Hopefully not. https://archive.is/DHkeS See title. (Someone who actually recognizes the Vshojo girls might want to post below of who's going.) Reminder that Kiara's apparently friends with veibae of Vshojo, who has allegedly trash-talked Cover Corp. in the...

    Discussion Pokemon games

Reject mainline games, embrace romhacks instead. I recommend Gaia and Clover (yes, the 4chan romhack with fakemons based off memes has a surprising amount of quality).

    Megathread Poor Localization Compilation Thread

It's quite funny you should mention this, because that's exactly what happened to the Ace Attorney series back in the day. And then Dai Gyakuten Saiban came out and they found that they wrote themselves into a corner because it's difficult to localize a Japanese man in fucking Great Britain...

https://archive.is/JtCYV Lunar Archivist gives a possible defense for the usage of "sus" in Nagatoro. tl;dr: it was probably for the memes, but the word "sus" itself is appropriate slang corresponding to the original Japanese word being used

Suggestion: Add a "Localization" prefix, "censorship" doesn't quite fit Suggestion 2: Allow the use of multiple thread prefixes (if the forum software allows)

https://archive.is/hh0ve Localizer Katrina Leonoudakis' thread on the, well, recent localizations. Defends the use of the word "cringe" to replace "chunnibyou". Any thoughts? EDIT: Previous takes by this translator, just so you know who we're dealing with here: - https://archive.is/2nNLo...

Steins;Gate, Madoka Magica (yes), Little Busters, Lyrical Nanoha As and StrikerS, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. And No Game no Life, particularly the movie. And Kara no Kyoukai. And recently, Railgun's third season (first two are subpar, but that's more the source material's fault) My...

Discussion Web Novels/Light Novels: Like turn of the century pulp fiction but less cool.

An analogy which I've heard before and like is that light novels are to novels the same way (English) young adult (YA) fiction is to fiction, because they use simpler language and are targeted to young adults/teenagers as well (as people have already said).

While we are praising Kamachi the god, if anyone would like to start reading Index/Toaru I would like to direct them here. This preserves the original fan-translated names for various organizations and terminologies. English Puritan Church my ass.

When you can't or won't make anything good and original of your own you become resentful and distort the beauty of the work of others. The same mentality is responsible for the blackwashing of characters.

Local computer scientist finds a way to begin the apocalypse with cryptography, also Apollo 11 cracked the sky and now demons run free on Earth. That poster gives me early 2000s flashbacks. Too bad I don't have any of the mentioned games :konata-cry: Yep, there's a 4v4 versus mode, though you don't need the full 8 people. I also support Halo, either multiplayer or campaign. We can hop into Legendary and suffer together

Discussion Web Novels/Light Novels: Like turn of the century pulp fiction but less cool.

For light novels, I'm catching up on my backlog of A Certain Magical Index (written by the same author of Heavy Object and Zashiki Warashi of Intellectual Village). For web novels, I don't know what the sentiment is towards non-eastern stuff here is, but I found Unsong recently and I've already...
