Localisation Censorship in the localization of Animal Crossing New Horizons

Been planning on compiling these examples for a few years but never got around to it until now lol.

Now I know most people are aware of the censorship of the holidays and the gender swapping of some characters in the localization, but I don't know how many people are aware of the frankly bizarre censorship in New Horizons where they attempted to make it "vegan friendly". Anyone who has played the series before knows that if you donate fish to the museum you get some facts about them, and that often involves how they taste, how they are cooked, etc. But New Horizons completely scrubbed all of that from the localization, and also made changes to items in the game made from animals (like leather) to make them "fake". Though I guess this was before the localizers had control over what the Japanese side was doing, since they patched cooking into the game later on that rained on their vegan parade. :ohohoh:

I'm not going to translate all of these examples because there is a ton of them and that is a pain in the neck, but I translated the relevant words and phrases and added the localized version for comparison.

The whole not wanting to mention or imply death in any form is in line for western media that is aimed at very young children. Its the whole, in my opinion, stupid western mentallity that children need to be shielded from anything remotely serious or "unpleasant". This mentality is not present in japanese, or really most other countries, now I wonder if these lines have also been censored in other localizations:zt-think:

Animal Crossing fans are going to be like why does it matter to you incel?

And boy, nintendo really can't help themselves with their stupid shit from lolcowlization to half finished games and a fandom that keeps enabling if anything they deserve to fail.
Would not surprise me considering nintendo fanboys reputation for shilling.

That said I have seen some long time animal crossing fans comment that new horizons and to a lesser degree new leaf, is way too sanitized, not only regarding the censoring of anything implying death but also the dialogue from the animals, when before you could get characters that were mean or downright hostile, now every one is a different flavour of "cute"

Yeah, that was toned down in the newer games even in Japanese. They made it pretty boring now.

Prolly already happening on twitter rn and its only with nh coming out that the less features are really starting to get noticed and funny, i see acnh fans get really trigerred by the slight mention of any dark or gloomy topic.

They wouldn't last a single day irl.

I will say that even in the older Animal Crossing games there was more Cultural Japanese things in their own version with E+ from the Gamecube, and as the games went on to become more popular in the West. There was less of that existing at all as the games went onward. To be honest i do think the main issue with Animal Crossing is the fact there is no real culture in these games. Animals do not have much personality or expression, letters are kind of just always polite, everyone loves the person in the game, and gifts were always dependent on the Animal type and the letters written, so there was incentive to learn how to write to get presents. For example Lucky the Dog would give me furniture everytime i did tasks or wrote for him, even when i wrote letters talking to him, and he was always relaxed, the Squid was literally Squidward in that he as stuck up and annoying with somewhat of a nice side that i found out later on researching the game. The fact that i could annoy the Squid and make him leave with whacking him on the head with a net was amazingly funny, and also the sad thing is that Animals can move from town to town leaving your own town behind, and i lost Lucky the dog because my cousin visited my town once and decided to move there due to co-op. In newer games you do not even have that interaction anymore. I have to believe this is due to them not wanting to hurt others feelings and making up for this lack of interaction by trying to put in more features and other content is not really going to help the series as a whole.
