Man, are we just going to ignore the fact that omitting cultural dialogue to appeal to the ignorant masses is exorbitantly racist? ロリ LITERALLY translates to "Loli", for example, and has no direct word that exists in English. If a word does not exist cross-language, leave it the fuck alone and expect users to learn more about the culture that the media they consume comes from.

It's a bunch of degenerate colonialists who say "If you don't like it then just learn japanese retard"- But when we do and point out how egregiously AWFUL and unrepresentative to the source material these "localizations" are they throw a fit because they want to be the sole arbiters of how Japanese media is curated for the west. These fucking manbabies think that they know better than everyone else about what they want to or should see. They're fucking evil.

Literally decided to learn Japanese because of all the "lol just learn jp if you don't like it" and worry about current localization philosophy of removing all japanese and culture for the broadest western audience.

Are there any patches to make Sky and CS 1, 2, and 4 more accurate?

I fucking hate the default strawman of "Idiot, you don't know japanese and want a 1:1 translation. That's shitty". Translation is an matter of degree. 1:1 is MTL, 1:2 is current Loc. I don't want extra flavor and shit, I want accuracy. Not extreme accuracy though. I want localizers to respect players and work NOT with broad audiences in mind

I still think my favorite idiotic argument these psychos make is the "people won't understand what these Japanese phrases, borrowed words, or slang means, so we need to "westernize" them to make it easier to understand."

As we all know, Billy that watches Black Mirror and other originals on Netflix and has not ever had any interest in anime will definitely randomly buy Trials in the Sky or Mary who only watches daytime soaps and nothing else will totes purchase a Tales of game.

Somehow these wastes have convinced themselves that people who do watch anime and play anime style games are the same as people who have never once thought of Japan or have any inkling of wanting to expose themselves to anything from Japan.

I didn't even play the game, but I love the seething this thread caused on twitter trannies, I created an account only because of it
Oh don't worry this thread is gonna continue to grow since the guy who made this thread stil hasn't (understandably) finished the game and if you want different less "localized" version of trails of the cold steel 3 there is a script patch, but only for chapter 1. I'm pretty sure we're gonna see more people reeeing about it.

Ah yes the thread that made me find this place. This shows up in google when you type in "NISA Cold Steel 3 shit translation?"

Seems like NISA really loves to insert their Western "sensibilities" whenever anything sexual or gender stereotype gets involved. They really go the extra mile to "localize" those things where even excuses like muh westernization or muh context don't really count anymore. And this is apart from their other "quality" work of the localization of Cold Steel III.

I really wonder how NISA is going to dick up the localizations of Azure and Zero even with the Geofront translations at hand.

To me it should be translation as is as closely as possible and leave everything else completely alone.

Failed creative writers and if even if they did took made something original they would have been btfo'd to hell for the shit product they brought out.

After seeing how aggressive Nisa is towards fan translations i wonder if they have anything to do with they guy's retranslation project dying/ missing
No, I hid it myself. For several reasons.

First, the more I dug into the script, the more changes I kept finding that I wanted to reverse. Eventually that number became so big, that I just got sick of it.

I screenshotted over 2000 lines of dialogue in Chapter 1 alone, that I ended up checking.

The files are still on my PC. I finished the entire prologue and the first chapter. Made probably over a 1000 changes. Not just censorship and idiotic lines and jokes from NISA. But also adding honorifics and rephrasing sentences that I felt should've been phrased differently.

And then I got burned out.

The problem is that 90% of it is not voiced, so I had to manually compare the English and JP scripts, which got super tedious fast. And the tools for dialogue editing are not exactly super user-friendly too, which made the process even slower.

Second, after playing through Sen no Kiseki 3 and 4, and spending so much time analyzing the script, I kind of started to dislike these games.

Dunno why it happened, as I've been playing the Trails series since Sky.

But, for some reason, it began to annoy me how slow and dragged-out everything was. I started hating Rean as the protagonist, for how goody two shoes he always is. Just my personal take.

So, with all of that, I couldn't force myself to continue working on the retranslation patch, and I found it pointless to just have the Prologue and Chapter 1 available for download, when the rest of the game didn't match the changes.

I might continue working on it in the future. I honestly don't know.

I am currently working on translating a visual novel on a different website under a different name. Plus I have my 'Persona 5 Localization Fixes' mod on GameBanana that I've been slacking on as well.

I understand, since you are constantly analyzing and looking at the the game and the story, the wrinkles and imperfections become more and more apparent until theyre impossible to ignore.

Now im pretty much ignorant when it comes to translating and modding games so forgive me if Im talking nonsense.

Have you considered, if you truly dont think you are going to return to it, make what you have done available for others that may want to take it up where left off?

It was so abridged, you'd have to get paid as a translator at that point, huh?

I've been playing Trails in the Sky in Japanese recently and I bet it's almost as bad, from the bit I have compared. I feel bad that the series is so highly regarded with such an awful translation.

Hey man, glad you're alive at least c: I'm pretty autist about translation so maybe I'd be able to handle the ridiculous ask and wrestling with the software. Then again maybe it'd be easier to rely on chatgpt + plugins to streamline the work? How much better a trial would this be for someone bilingual? People always say "if you don't like it, learn japanese" but that leaves everyone but the individual in the dust.

But yeah I've had the games picking up dust in my steam library this whooooole time.

Kind of necroing the thread, but out of curiosity, if someone from the forums here was willing to take over the work, would you be willing to give them the tools and a copy of the files?

I'll probably resume working on this when I have more time, so I won't shelve it permanently. Though, in retrospect, I should've started with SNK 1.

Well, when you do start working on it again, maybe you could start a recruitment thread to find people to help you. There are definitely a few people on the forums who'd be happy to help you translate the game.
