Disney+ Licensing Anime

Dynasty11

varishangout.com
Just when you thought anime licensing in America couldn't get worse because of Sony acquiring Crunchyroll and Funimation, I am now learning that Disney+ is set to license and acquire anime as well.

Already they have licensed 4 titles. Summertime Rendering. Yojohan Time Machine Blues. Twisted Wonderland. Black Rock Shooter Dawn Fall.

I have a hunch that those titles will be censored and altered by Disney mostly everyone is upset with the fact that Disney will now start licensing anime. Even me.

I'm imagining if they license an ecchi anime, that could be censored to no end.

do you have an article or something to go with these?
Unfortunately no. But it was all over twitter. The info came from the J-List shop on twitter.

Please, read this before making any more threads
I'll keep that in mind.

Recently there has been quite a stir with this, in particular the fact that Twisted Wonderland is going to be produced by them, I only have the Natalie Comic article in Japanese.
there was also a recent controversy in japan about the ''poor quality'' in the animation of this series [another article in japanese].

well, I don't know who's will going to disney + to watch anime anyway lol
but it is also a fact that they will start producing their own anime, in fact that is more likely to happen than acquiring licenses.

it's funny to see how after collapsing their own industry now they all desperately turn to the japanese anime industry instead of changing themselves, pathetic.

Typical of U.S. companies, it is better to go and take over what is giving results, than to create something that gives results on my own. Disney's move into the anime industry was a matter of time.

On one hand, Disney; on the other hand, one more competitor has entered the market and provided one more option, preventing CR/Funi from getting closer to securing their monopoly. They are both still probably very bad options. Yeah, nevermind actually.

disney owns twisted wonderland so that barely matters. The issue is that disney licensed Summer Time Render and Black Rock Shooter. Summer Time Render's manga has some panty shots and nude scenes so you'd think disney is going to censor it but the mangaka spoke about "fixing embarassing mistakes and updating the anime version for modern times" so that means STR got the usual censorship or disney was involved in the production before the recent news dropped.

Don't know much about Black Rock Shooter other than the main girl, she might get a mid-drift cover up.

Additionally with disney grabbing non-beyblade type crap that means more studios may start self-censoring to get that big bag of disney cash.

I mean disney seems to be on a quest to literally own everything on earth so its not really surprising that they are getting on the anime train. Honestly while Im worried about another western company trying to encroach in on the animw undustry. I just dont know how hands on disney might. I mean crunchy roll and funimation, their main concerns is anime so they are gonna be very involved in that which translates in making a work "more appealing for modern audiences". Meanwhile disney is gigantic. They simply cannot be super involved in everything they own. So creators have more freedom which is in turn why disney(occassionaly) comes up with good stuff like the mandalorian.
So yeah Im concerned but not black pilled:flan-yea:. At least not for now:gura-pain:

well the protagonist of black rock shooter is the essence of the series, if they modify it I wonder who will watch that garbage lol
and i see it quite likely that they will modify some things.
and it's quite "objectionable", it's practically a half-naked loli.
I wonder if they will let it go through as is, so far the only promotional image they have revealed shows a similar design as the old series, so at least the design hasn't been modified at all.
also the series touches on psychological themes that i wonder if they will pass disney's filters as well.

that is to say, there are changes, but the essence of the clothing was maintained.
It remains to be seen whether the narrative and story will be maintained. Although black rock shooter is not a remotely reprehensible story, disney has already distributed worse things before, but well.
however if they decide to censor the character they are going to have to censor a lot lol

Is that a cg model? Is the anime going to be cg?

Is that a cg model? Is the anime going to be cg?
no idea, but the old anime has a lot of cgi
I wouldn't be surprised if they determined to make this one full cgi
The studio is Bibury Animation Studios, and it is not one that usually makes full CGI anime, but they make a remarkable use of it.
and the anime is usually listed as a co-production with Bibury Animation CG [apparently a specialized 3DCGI affiliate].
That's what they say on their official website. [the site is shown as non-secure, probably because of http, warning]
Captura.JPG

I don't see anyone specializing in CGI on the main staff either, although not all members have been revealed yet it seems.
Captura.JPG

my opinion is that it will be like the old series, a hybrid between both animation techniques with some parts full CGI [probably in the other world] and others with traditional style [probably in the current world].
but we'll have to wait for the first video to be revealed...
which should not take long

I wish these place leave anime alone, I liked it when anime was a niche hobby.
that only a few people outside of japan new about. fucken normies destroy everything.
I guess I will enjoy the retro and older stuff, because most modern anime is shit anyway.

maybe i'm being too optimistic but considering disney in japan is basically its own thing (kind of like yahoo) maybe the results woundn't be so bad.
and for those who don't know, Twisted Wonderland is about bishounen version of disney villains so it would make sense for them to license the anime
