Do you think video games could ever become raunchy again like in the 2000s ?

nah, today the left puritanists ask for more censoring than ever before. Things gets worse year by year. It wasn't like that during the 90s.

Back in the 90's the pressure to censor exclusively came from outside pressure from (government) regulation and pearl clutching moral faggots. The only censorship that one could kinda count as from within the industry was localization. (yeah they were terrible even back then). Moreover, even if they were subjected to censorship developers would release censored versions of games for certain markets. (Take the German versions of games with enemies being replaced with robots/zombies and the green blood) But released the uncensored versions for everyone else.

Nowadays apart from developers being pro censorship themselves for various reasons. They also no longer make real separate versions of their games for various markets/platforms due to parity clauses. Hence, they always censor stuff to the lowest common denominator so we end up with the most censored versions of games for everyone. Its partially why the soyny censorship was so damaging in general. It was the biggest platform holder so everyone else got screwed by the same policies. Though, IMO developers/publishers should have pushed back more aggressively and just have given soyny censored kusoge versions but released their uncensored games on the other platforms.

Just to be clear, my inquiry was more aimed at a..somewhat more professional/corporate structure. I'm aware that indie scene and adult games in general aren't too shy about putting in risque contents but I'm just wondering if we could ever back to when games are actually meant to be fun or sexually explicit such as Dante's inferno without the social media lynchmobs and upper management hounding dev's every steps.

The professional/corporate structure is filled with the same type of people that form those social media lynchmobs. Lets just say even if you got a AAA studio with a based development team willingly want to put in the risque content of the old days. They would constantly be hounded by other industry professionals, the gaming press, platforms holders like Soyny/M$ and vocal turds on social media. Not to mention shit like ESG and DIE cancer who would not be amused by risque content.

However, remember Suits really don't give a damn about the creative side just profits, shareholders and optics. When confronted with aforementioned outsiders having a shit fit about that game with risque content Suits within the corporate structure will cuck out pretty fast.

But like 99% of indie games are developed by faggots.
Not just any kind of soyfaggots but soyfaggots who support punching nazis and having their wives dicked down by bbc for "reparations" and also have a sketchy history of sexual misconduct too yet loli bad somehow.

I'd say the largest difference between the 90's/2000's and 2010's+ is level of globalization. You're right on the mark in regard to how games used to have censored versions for certain markets back in the day but now there's just an overall "Global" version with perhaps SLIGHT edits for the Chinese scene. (Referring primarily to Gacha games there, and I suppose maybe a few examples of games removing Skeletons for the Chinese scene? DOTA still does that.)

In regard to AAA games, it isn't even puritans actually. It's overall the fact Video Games as a whole are now a "Respected" entertainment brand. Gone are the days where the media looked down on Video Games like they did Tabletop Gaming/DND back in the Cold War. With this ""Respect"" comes the price of being in the public eye. Movies have always been aggressively sanitized as times go on and video games aren't really any different. There's almost no difference between AAA game studios and big picture studios like Universal, Disney, etc.

The end issue actually lies with us, the consumers for failing to realize that AAA Game Studios today are completely different to what they were 13 years ago. Expecting AAA studios to pump out anything that isn't sanitized and overly marketable is foolish at best and downright stupid at worst.

It's honestly the reason I stick to niche genres now.

Honestly thats probably thr best approach AAA will always follow the money and the good pr.

So better to support niche and indie titles

Simply put if you find a game that seems fun and is unafraid of the nonsense of today then support them

My problem is that I couldn't find any outside of janky indy (and the one that met the criteria is already rare to come by) and outright porn games.

I don't want to play porn games I want eyecandies here and there like we used to have. It's so tiring getting told to go watch porn from the detractors.
