now this is a topic iminterested in, have you guys ever witnessed someone using maturity as a weapon to denigrate someone or something?
i mean the most obvious example would be journos calling japanese games trash because "haha big titty women".
another thing i've noticed is that snark and false maturity tend to go together in what i see as an incredibly annoying combo whose only purpose is killing the passion of other people and making them feel ashamed for liking something
what do you guys think about snarky comments and people trying to act like they are more mature than they really are?

I know what you mean I think it all stems from people finding things that are out of the norm to be "wrong" and an avenue of attack is to declare those things as immature since that would denigrate anyone interested in it. To denigrate others because of their inadequacy, being unable to understand that others have different values that hurt no one, it's always the same shit.

There is nothing I hate more then people that tries to act serious or think it somehow gives them a advantage in a argument. Life is to short to even give them the opportunity to voice their opinion.

And as pointed out above it's just the boomers version of "don't do that because I don't like it." That tactic might work on your own kids IRL. But on the internet it just makes you look stupid.

There was some time when I watched fucking Lost_Pause because he didn't have this shitty attitude. He wanted boobs, and so he looked for boobs, and he appreciated boobs, even if he was a shitty streamer.

Well I don't watch people reviewing these sorts of games or series. And I certainly wouldn't watch someone that actively dislike that stuff. They don't deserve my attention. But it certainly sounds like cancer to watch that.

The Last of Us 2, anyone? Over-the-top and blatant fantasy nonsense like Senran Kagura is horrendous and needs to be censored and removed, but a graphic sex scene with a tranny gremlin is not only acceptable, but amazing.

I hate when people tell you, "Just go watch porn." Porn is cheap and free and often low quality, while erotic and beautiful art isn't (even if it's also porn/hentai), especially if it's in the realm of fantasy.

I think it all goes down to having a lack of morals and or security in oneself. People that are comfortable with their own sexuality aren't going to berate or insult others for the sexual content they indulge in/enjoy. In a nutshell: it's projection. Fortunately for me my university friends think what I draw is excessive, but they'll acknowledge that I've put a lot of time and effort to produce good art, even if the subject is beyond their liking, and leave it at that. They even casually meme about me liking big boobs when the occasion allows it, and play up the talents I've displayed (one of them joked the girl I marry is the one that tells me my artwork needs to go bigger/lewder). Actually, my parents have seen my art work, and the general responses are: "You're getting so good at coloring, but my gosh her body is outrageous." Beyond that, they respect that I've learned a skill and that I've put in a lot of time and effort to learn. The art itself is irrelevant, and they know that I enjoy it, so they leave it at that.

Maturity in Western media has really been dumbed down. For some reason, blatant or subtle sexuality is considered taboo. Hell, gore is okay now, too, when a few decades ago it was inappropriate. We are probably in this culture because, at least in the West (US especially), the media is run by mostly boomers. They either have religious or personal beliefs that give them the attitude of disdain towards erotic/sexual content. And then for the regular consumer like the ones we find on Twatter (which is the largest social media service in the world atm), they project their own insecurities on us who are having fun, and the media giants take their side. This is due to Twatter being the largest media base to draw public opinion from, and also that the media giants are incapable of producing good content that we enjoy. Hence, I hope indie up to A or AA becomes the mainstream, and highly centralized media (especially for video games) break up. Just a guess, though.

Interestingly, because this is the kind of culture we live in, it's shown that we demonstrate more maturity than the people that berate us for lewd or erotic artwork by just responding with giga chad: "Why yes, we like what we see."

So regardless, in the pursuit of building the new industry, I will proudly claim that I like my girls with huge tits and fat asses; I want them breeding cows (that get treated well; obligatory respekt wahmen). And since I can't find the kind of art I want with the subtleties and nuances of my tastes, I'll produce it myself.

here is a pro tip people who are actually mature don't brag that there mature or snub people for not being mature as them.
because that in itself is a sign of immaturity.
a mature person doesn't have a freak out because they see a game with big anime tittys, if they don't like it they just walk away and do something else with there lives.

on the topic of mature video games.
what I define as mature video games are games with mature themes, sexual content & violence.
that isn't suitable for children, and younger teenagers unless you are very mature for your age.
where journos come into play is they are the opposite problem, as they are immature and their lack of cognitive understanding
makes it very hard for them to comprehend the concepts and ideas that these games bring up. because it's not for them
an idea I have is to make a new rating system for game journos so they can play games and not be exposed to games there not ready for.

It's funny that this discussion about games being more serious gives the impression to those unaware that the industry is filled with boobs and scantily clad women everywhere. There is a fair amount of every type of game/fanservice. Well, less fanservice nowadays because they start screeching, but I think you guys get my point.

Also on a side note, funny how boobs are a big no-no. However, in MK you rip the opponent's spine with you bare hands and it's a-okay. Though we all know that eventually they will up the religious screechers of the 90s in the "this violence is unacceptable" discourse.

That is seriously one of the Sony hypocrisies I can't forgive. Sony had a gem on their hands with Senran Kagura, but after moving further and further away from Japan it started having disdain for the franchise. This campaign that "the video game industry has to mature" comes from people that either are disingenuous or never understood the industry in the first place. Games with heavier and, dare I say, more political themes have existed for a while. The big difference is today it's all about shoving into people's faces "look this is wrong because muh <buzzword>". When the game approaches in a manner like "this is the setting, this is what's happening, come to your own conclusion about the morality of it", it is so much more entertaining. I mean, we don't even have to go that far. The Last of Us (the good one) has an ending that is open to interpretation whether Joel's actions were justified or not.

I agree with Gundam, people who are mature don't have to state that they are or what they are doing is, they just act like it. and I think the same applies to video games and other media, if you have to constantly reaffirm what you are doing/making is "mature" in interviews and the like chances are you are insecure about it and are trying too hard and it will show in the work.

It's quite interesting how we've gone from having distinct video game genres to either slurper durper geeeees, bloated AssCreed sandbox games and pedestrian cinematic games with unskippable cutscenes and slow af walking sections.
