So I stumbled upon The gaming brit's video on God of War (2018) and it ticks several things that Dimitri talked about in his "false maturity" video. It's quite interesting how we've gone from having distinct video game genres to either
slurper durper geeeees,
bloated AssCreed sandbox games and
pedestrian cinematic games with unskippable cutscenes and slow af walking sections.
His rant was such a joy to my ears.
Quote from the video:
"(...) trying to put an action game into a serious story."
Yeah, that's how this game feels. This was one of those games that after the first couple of hours, I was more interested in the story than the gameplay. I like Nordic mythology (though less than I like Greek mythology). And like the video says, the close over-the-shoulder camera easily makes enemies move away from your vision. You end up relying on that enemy direction thing he means there and you often end up dodging into enemies attacks because you couldn't see them coming. Boss (or mini boss) variety was very disappointing (for those who played it, the Helheim boss left a very bad taste in my mouth).
The "best part"? The reason I kept playing, the story, by the end of the game is such a lackluster. It's just setting up for later games.
They just sprinkle some references from the previous games here and there. Doesn't explain shit.
Oh, and let's not forget the director went off on Twitter to criticize fans and gamers.
