I've been watching these open source phone OS's for a while, but haven't installed any of them. My Nexus 6P isn't about to kick the bucket just yet, but I wouldn't install one of these OS's if I didn't have another phone in case of a failure. Perhaps when I'm ready, I'll pick up a Pixel for Graphene.

Down with bloatware (I use Arch btw).

i highly recommend it. 0 bloat or other spyware shit and all FOSS.
Regarding breakage there is pretty much no way anything will happen since the OS is tailored for Pixels.
The installation is also much easier and faster than most other CustomOS (+15min and 80% of that is downloading the image).

The installation being easier is already a huge plus for me. I have always been somewhat afraid of breaking the phone by trying to install a custom OS.

It really is and you can always roll back to stock OS (depending where you bought the phone bricking it might even be covered by warranty). Just make sure you carefully follow the Web installer guide (or CLI install guide if there are problems). If you have questions you can ask here or even better in there community chats.

GrapheneOS will soon allow using unprivileged Google Play Services. Great stuff although i personally wouldn't use a De-Google and open source OS to then add closed sourced spyware again.

update: 2021.07.16.19

Code:
- add experimental support for running Play services and friends as sandboxed user-installed apps without any special privileges
- Settings: use alternate implementation of Wi-Fi auto-turn-off setting matching the Bluetooth auto-turn-off UX
- overhaul Wi-Fi auto-turn-off implementation including handling the case of Wi-Fi being turned on without connecting to a network

Now it's possible to set a timer to disable Wi-Fi automatically when not connected to a Network (just like with Bluetooth). No need for apps like Smarter Wi-Fi Manager anymore!
