The youtuber I want to talk about is Herohei.
I would be very interested to hear why those who do hate him have such a great aversion. I'm not a subscriber of his, but I have caught his videos occasionally as they are recommended by the algorithm, typically when they involve drama, and I find his takes to be generally correct. Still, I see so many (especially those on 4chan) trashing him at the mere mention of his content.

I like him mostly. I think some dislike him because they feel he is just "adding fuel to the fire" as some say especially when he talks about drama stuff. Others say that he does not research his stuff. I think that was true before but he has gotten much better about it imo.

I think he's pretty good now at being generally correct. You can typically fact check most of his recent vids as you watch them, with the exception of a few deleted tweets here and there; but yknow, he's used archiving sites too in the past to get around that.

Thank you for some insight. As someone who loathes and tries to stay away from drama as well, I can sympathize with that perspective, though given many (if not most) anons on 4chan feed off that shit, I'm not sure why they wouldn't love him instead. Might be onto something with the research part, and hopefully what Lars mentions above in terms of his improving holds true. Last thing we need is someone with good perspectives and intentions being exposed as misinformed; this sort of nonsense just feeds the opposition credibility.

he's a leech that "reports" on stories purely for self gain while investing zero time or effort to actual research. He is also more than willing to hurt others for more views.

Idk how much he researches the topics but, at least recently, they seem to be correct. I know he didnt do much research in the past tho

Interesting. And this seems to be a trend in youtub anime circles. How much original content is out there except vtubers and artists posting speed-paint's? The rest seems to be opinion based stuff. Please don't kill me.

Sounds like the typical drama channel then. Everyone's trying so hard and clawing at each other to acquire that Keemstar fame.

Is there anyone out there who does their due diligence when reporting on controversy? Honest question, I'd like to know.

Scrolling through and seeing the Hero_Hei talk reminds me... There's a phrase I think applies especially to anyone that talks politics/drama, and it's especially true for news networks: "Trust, but verify." Grant the speaker the benefit of the doubt, but then go and look into the matter yourself.

I came across Hero_Hei years ago because of some controversies that happened in the JP scene regarding censorship in anime and video games. I watch his videos here and there, but I don't take anything he says that I don't know about as gospel. When it comes to things like game censorship and art controversies (like ohr_cn's "whitewashed" watercolor Nessa drawings), he's usually spot on. I do like that his videos are brief, but that's as far as I go for him. Though tbh, I'm spending less time on videos since my time is better spent playing a game I like, hanging out with friends, or honing skills (like drawing booba!).

Domo is (was?) a vtuber interviewer. Held himself like he owned the eng community. He became popular cause he was the guy who donated to fubuki and asked her to marry him or whatever (from what I understand)
Lol thats pathetic

Not sure if this is the right thread for such a post, but I didn't want to make a new one for this random musing.

Does it not concern anyone else to see what the majority of people actually watch on YouTube? I know many people, myself included at times, like to complain that Susan and her legion of bots aren't paying attention to the real creators on the site. That is unquestionably true, but when you see what's actually being watched and in such large numbers by comparison, it starts to make sense why they don't give a shit.

I just went through the explore/trending tab for the first time in months, and I'm just dumbfounded. Why are normalfaggots like this? Mainstream music videos, corposhit, vapid vlog channels, etc. Literal bottom of the barrel type of content, yet most of which sit in ranges of views from the hundreds of thousands to millions.

I have yet to see some of the most high quality videos on the platform get anywhere close to these sorts of numbers. I'm sure there's viewbotting going on in the mix, but it can't be that much. This is just... ugh. :hana-disgust:

Funny you mention this, just today me and friends were watching random vids and opened a private tab to find some vids I didn't need to have recommended to me later on.
The recommended of a default youtube page is just :senko-disgust:.
It's incredibly weird to see the braindead shit other people watch... well not that my recommended videos are any better but. Still it's weird what they watch.

I can relate. The whiplash one gets from going from their personalized feed to the "default" is striking. I guess in a way I am grateful the algorithm works well enough, but then I realize that's because it has a sizable dataset stored within Google's evil empire.

Normally, I would take the approach of "eh, live and let live, you like what you like", because similar to what you said, I probably watch a lot of shit others would consider weird or dumb. But I start to draw the line when it not only affects but also guides YouTube's policy and focus, which allows the algorithm to place more weight on this kind of shit instead of incredibly documentaries or reviews that take weeks to months (to perhaps even years) to make.

This is perhaps also an extension of an underlying hopeless that posits normalfaggots are less so because they lack the mental capacity to enjoy better content but rather they're less likely to engage in anything that isn't entirely safe. The theory is that if the algorithm were more suited to steering everyone to higher quality content, then they'd actually enjoy it just as well. But why do that when you can watch the next formulaic MrBeast video or catch up with some daft SoCal cunt's vlog?

Rant aside, you reminded me that it's been a while since I've checked out Cynical Reviews' channel. Gonna peer through and see what he's been up to lately. Also, seconding the idea of a peertube instance.
