It occurred to me that we don't have a general news thread for weebshit, so I guess I'll be the change I wish to see in the world and start one myself. Post anything industry related, discuss anything industry related, rant about anything industry related, you get the picture. Be mindful of what sites you link directly and always provide an archive link to avoid giving free clicks to bad actors where necessary.
To start the thread off: The Japanese side of the industry is trying to ensure that you'll only ever be able to watch seasonal diarrhea on approved streaming services onry and, in typical Japanese fashion, they are taking cues from their American superiors; introducing the IAPO, the gay MPAA of the Anime & Manga industry!

As an aside, whenever I see the Japanese kvetch about how the filthy gaijin are pirating Isekai Harem #689745 and not supporting the hellgrind to suicide that is the anime industry, I'm reminded of one of the many reasons that anime piracy took off in the first place: the purposeful gimping of international releases. It was not unheard of for international releases back in the 00s to be of poorer quality, allegedly to prevent reverse importing (even with the international shipping and currency exchange, it was cheaper than the 200+ dollar DVD boxes marketed to the neckbeards willing to hold up the rapidly shrinking industry of the day). In many ways, they created this monster they now so valiantly raise their pig-steel katanas to fight. Got to channel that samurai spirit somewhere, I guess.
Anyways, I'll hand the aux off to whoever else wishes to contribute interesting news reports.
