Physical Media Collections

Thread Description
Discuss and share images of the various forms of tangible entertainment or knowledge you have collected!

Ah, do you smell that? Spring is in the air! And by spring, of course I mean an unhealthy amount of plant semen. For all my brothers and sisters out there with allergies, stay strong. :mokou-lying:

Anyway, that also means it's time for spring cleaning! One of the things I tend to neglect throughout the year is dusting, which lead me to discover how filthy my bookcases have become. In spite of the work ahead of me, I did come up with the idea to create a thread in which everyone can share images of their physical media collections, be it anime, artbooks, comics, films, manga, novels, or video games! Anything goes, really. You own it, you show it!

Bonus points go to @namedoesntfi for having been the first to share by posting selections from their adult media collection in the hentai doujinshi thread. Should you have mature content you'd like to share, you may here (in a spoiler) or there.

I hope this thread encourages those who have not yet started building a library of their own to give a shot. Ownership of media is extremely important in a digital age where "renting" content is becoming more commonplace. It's hard to explain exactly, but it's really nice to "have" something that cannot be taken from you. There's no license. There's no subscription. It's just there. Always will be. Plus, collecting is both an enjoyable and fulfilling pursuit. This is effectively your zone, a locus of entertainment that you yourself curated, existing as a manifestation of your interests. It's pretty cool when you think of it like that, but of course for the more grounded, it's ultimately just a place to store your stuff. Share it anyway!

(Will be relaunching my library at some point as I am looking to get another bookcase and hopefully better lighting.)

Great initiative.

What a collection you have there. I must say that two collection in particular caught my attention: Monster Musume and Senran Kagura in the ecchi stuff and Lovecraft. Quite the quality there overall. :cultured:

I recently changed jobs so I haven't been posting here as much but I will soon share mine here too.

Oh, and also update the doujinshi thread, there is still much more to share. It takes some time because I like to properly link and reference my collection so other may... do some research... :korone-smug:

Thank you! I tend to get a lot of compliments in particular for my collection of Monster Musume. I was very fortunate that I caught a great deal from someone on eBay to get that entire set, completely new and wrapped. I don't own nearly as much ecchi as I would like, though.

I have updated the original post with my complete collection, so for you and anyone else, feel free to check out what else I have. I should mention that I typically read manga on my mobile device (through Tachiyomi using MangaDex as a source), so what I have is not my entire experience. It's just really expensive to collect manga, so I pick and choose, often "claiming" a series by buying its first volume and moving on.

I would have to say my most prized acquisition is the Boku Girl (ボクガール)series, as it is not only one of my favorites but also out of print and not likely to receive a Western localization. Finding it on eBay was really nice, and if I'm not mistaken, it was the first time I purchased anything from Japan. I look forward to learning more Japanese so I can begin directly reading it in its original form, perhaps even translating it to English and going full circle.

I must say one of my biggest regrets was selling my Monster Musume collection. :uni-scare: I was moving and thought I wouldn't have space for it. I should have stored it somewhere to pick them up later when possible. Especially now because in my collection is split between my home and my parent's house. :gura-pain:

Damn, I loved Boku Girl. It's a shame I didn't read to the end, though. I think there was a hiatus or something like that and I ended up not picking it up again.

Also, I see we share some taste. I also have Kase-san books, Bloom into You and the Éclair collection. I have also read the Beauty and Beast Girl. :cultured:

Bravo! :hyper-ro:

Great stuff, my dude. I am especially pleased to see the sheer amount of music you've collected. I feel like this is one medium that has specifically been hit hard as far as physical acquisitions go due to the rapid digitalization of media. Of course, as someone who's owned a lot of discs myself, I know all too well how fickle they can be.

If I may ask, how exactly did you go about acquiring these? Are there specific online services you used, or have you acquired them in person either from specialized shops or perhaps even domestically in Japan?

Also, going westward quite a bit, what are your thoughts on that copy of Halo Evolutions? I am a huge fan of the original trilogy, and I am quite interested in collecting other written media from the franchise, especially as my PC is likely not well-equipped enough to handle the Master Chief Collection at the moment.

Mad respect as well for the Early Victories omnibus you got there. I'll have to look into getting a copy of that myself. I lament the loss of the Legends canon all too much these days, especially material complete with what I tend to view as the "Dark Horse stamp of approval".

It's a mix of having friends in Japan who send me stuff, friends who have went there buying me stuff, and buying from online stores (Mandarake and Suruga-Ya for example) using a proxy service to have them shipped here to me.

It's pretty good for someone who's been into the series since the good old days of Combat Evolved. It has quite a bit of lore packed into it being that it's a collection of fifteen different stories by various authors. If you've ever seen Halo: Helljumper, it's an adaption of one of the stories from it.

Same here, legends will always to be canon to me no matter who or what says it's not.

@Valenthyne Sorry for taking so long in posting my collection. :megu-scare:

New job messed my days for a while and during weekends I always ended up forgetting to take the pictures.

Unfortunately I do not have my complete collection with me so I can't provide pictures for everything. Part of it is at my parents house because I couldn't bring everything with me when I moved. From what I can remeber, the stuff I left there includes (man, how my memory is failing me now):
  • A Star Wars Omnibus.
  • Blu-Ray collection of all Star Wars movies (pre-Disney).
  • Harry Potter books.
  • Sword Art Online light novels (volumes 1 through 9)

For more details regarding some the contents, check the Hentai Doujinshi, Manga, Artworks and More!. I'll keep updating this post as I post more in that thread.

I am sharing some of the stuff I have.
F.Y.I I do have some Warhammer and bolt-action but it's getting put together at the monument, and I got magic cards but haven't got them organized yet.

so the first manga I ever brought was Rosario + Vampire, which I had brought about a day after I had just come out of surgery from a local comic book shop.
was in a shitton of pain walking to and up the stairs of the comic book shop, but dam was it worth it.
the other manga I picked from other stores, expos and etc.

I doing the Japanese army for bolt action because banzai charge go brrr and a friend of mine is selling me his iron hands which are worth 2000pt in tabletop for $250 which is quite a fair price. would rather have blood ravens for the meme, but beggers cant be chosers
