Megathread Poor Localization Compilation Thread

This might be my mistake, looking more into it seems like 皆のもの was used by samurai in the past and the たまえ expresses the meaning of 'please give me a boon'.
I tried looking at the korean more but it still seemed like normal speech.

Oh right, that went right over my head. This is a Korean game, so is this translation from the original Korean or from Japanese? That could be where some of the confusion is coming from.

I have no idea maybe a case of kor-eng/eng-everything else, the company apparently got scammed with their fist game where the people they hired did a machine translation.
A group called coolkidsclubTL re-did it and the company hired them for its other games, also found a steam post of someone talking about some of the translations.

Found something nice on Twitter for people to use, so they can discredit those whiny bitches that want you to support Westernization in Manga.

The shitty part is that Seven Seas agreed to the union. Guess they won't fix that crossdressing manga they fucked up. Now they'll continue to release shitty localizations, have people not work on titles they feel uncomfortable doing (which was one of their demands) and the company will have to coddle these idiots when they get called out for doing a horrible job. Looks like I'll be sticking to scanlations and pirated copies off of certain shady sites.

They recently release Netflix version of Bastard!! Ankoku no Hakaishin is simply using dubtitles. It really is obvious with this series that a lot of lines are just tagged on, at one point the enemy in the 2nd episode is just saying one word, and they squeeze in a whole line in English, in the Japanese version he is just mumbling.

The series is cringe inducing to watch with its dubtitles. It's so obvious that they just made shit up and pushed the same lines in the English sub version.

The dubtitles are the default, but you can change it to normal subtitles.

Saw it on Twitter. Kinda weird to make the dubtitles version the main track and not the more accurate one.

Now i just gotta search for an illegal streaming site that has it. It seems most just use the dubtitle version, guess I could try downloading it from Nyaa.

In general, this wouldn't be a bad thing, seeing as they give you an option for a more accurate version. Makes you wish they'd do that for every series or game instead of just the raped version.

I'm started watching today, thank fuck I found this post and was able to see which was the dubtitles.

It's strange as fuck they decided to make the English CC The dubtitles. I would have thought the just eng subs would be that.

Elex 2 a German game that launched recently had memes in it´s English translation and the game was translated from German to English and from English to all other languages so the only language that is without memes is the original and maybe the Chinese and Japanese but I can´t confirm, since I don´t speak either of those languages.

this happens in the first 30 - 40 minutes of the game

The 3 pictures below are in the following order

1- original german without the meme where the guy say (was genau ist eigentlich passiert ?) which means (what happened ? ) or (what exactly happened ?)

2 - the english translation that have the meme (ooof)

3 - the spanish translation that also have the meme (ooof) as a way to show that the game have been translated to other languages from english and not from german

Serious question, did a 13 year old kid translate this?
Seeing this, I can smell that the individual who vandalized this, spends a lot of time on Reddit. There is no fucking way that the OG author's dialogue has fucking Roblox, memes and normalfag references/slang in it. I bet this person was never beated by his/her father while he/she was a kid.

Japanese:
The hero who defends the light of the stars
Must destroy the darkness of the illusory world
And entrust his power to the chosen one.
The will inherited by the chalice of the stars will become a new key
And become the sword that cuts down darkness.

(Part of bigger lore)
English:
Funny... reference? I don't even know to be honest.

Localizer probably felt like taking an early lunch break that day
It is so jarring to see stuff like this i saw it in master duel and immediately knew it was incorrect
Completely shatters the verisimilitude

So I decided to play Dark Souls 3 again now that the servers are back up and came across something. Maybe not exactly the worst kind of localization but still.

In the first phase against the Nameless King, his English name is "King of the Storm". This isn't present in the Japanese version, in both phases it's 無名の王/Nameless King.

Seems nonsensical to me, like what was the thought process? "Hey actually he should be called King of the Storm in the first phase. We know better, that's why."

Check this out and scroll to the boss for some explanation. The first phase was meant to reference the dragon he was riding, and he even translated that differently.

The Souls games seem to be riddled with bad translations.

This guy retranslated a lot of items and text in DS2 so that people could make more sense of the lore behind it.

Still, Namco Bandai hasn't fixed the problems in Elden Ring, Kinda makes you wonder if their strategy guides include the same mistranslation as the game.
