Shilling underrated games

Thread Description
Shilling games that should have more recognition.

I feel Battle Fantasia is usually ignored, even by me and I own it. But recently after learning that the creator of Bridget and the producer of Battle Fantasia were the same person (thanks Dimitri), I gave it one more shot. It uses link combos instead of chain combos which is why I was initially turned off by it, but it's not a bad fighting game at all! The PC version (Battle Fantasia: Revised Edition) does have some graphical hiccups on Windows if you use a Radeon graphics card. However, this is easily fixed by downloading DXVK and putting the 32 bit version of d3d9.dll in the root folder for the game.

Might as well shill Blade Kitten. Old 2D platformer that's pretty fun, got that corny early 2000's charm to it and it's hard not to recommend considering it's like 3 bucks off sale and a 1.50 right now.
Not a perfect game by any means, but a fun one. Combat is a little jank though, you kinda just learn to deal with it.
(I'm not sure if it's on anything other then Steam, this is a niche 360/PS3 era arcade title.)

Dunno if it is underrated at this point but Xenogears has been a favorite of mine for a long ass time.

With Elhaym Van Houten being my all-time favorite woman in fiction with Rain Mikamura in 2nd place.

I would say it is more overlooked these days than underrated just like all Xeno games outside of Xenoblade.
I see it mentioned here and there, but I wonder how many people played it.

Been going through the Xenoblade Series on Switch. Been forever since I played X and Saga.

Would love to play them again. But Gears has always had a special place in my heart for me. Especially with Elly.

Man Umihara Kawase is an utterly spiteful vicious series but there is nothing else like it. I second that recommendation:

My usual recommendation is Assault Spy, one of the absolute best character action games in recent memory with bonus super annoying loli you may deploy in combat to draw aggro. https://store.steampowered.com/app/767930/Assault_Spy/

I would also throw a bone to Kubinashi Recollection, the first puzzle platformer I have played in decades that has ACTUAL PUZZLES and is smart rather than tedious block pushing, key carting easy mode busywork. Extremely clever game. Plus super cute 2hu spinoff where you play as the head girl. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1635980/Kubinashi_Recollection/

Can second Assault Spy, played it on someone else's recommendation and had a blast. Really need to go back and play through the CIA agent chicks route.

Banner Saga is kino yet it never got the spotlight it deserves. It's pretty old but it's still good because of its timeless artstyle.
If you're going to play it, buy all three.

The "saga" in its name is no joke. It's insanely narrative-heavy. Every choice matters and your ending by the third game WILL be different based on choices you've made along your long-ass journey. The fights gets way more intense over the course of the game to the point that in the third game, you're basically going into battles with some pretty battered characters.

If you like tactical RPGs, visual novels or Oregon Trail, then try it out.

The CIA chick is one of the more busted characters I've played in a character action game. She can just parry basically everything in the game and counter-attack slamming it face first into the floor. Definitely a blast to play. Once you beat her route you get tag mode so you can tag between her and Asaru on future replays

This game was fun as shit as a kid.
Just mad that I was never able to get all the level 5 spells. I wonder if there is a similar game like this because even thaan game developers could have had the potential to make this game have more fun ideas.

Also I heard that some of the same game devs of Sekiro also made the Tenchu series.
Than of course like Halo they butchered the game series later. You can see some idea similarities from tenchu wrath of heaven and sekiro such as the battle monks.
So I am hoping for a new game that is almost like Sekiro with the dark souls kind of gameplay but into Tenchu instead

Oneechanbara Series(Steam)

The whole series I would recommend. But I would go with Origin first followed by Z2 Chaos. It looks like an action game at first, but it has as much depth as a DMC game but with fanservice and outfits to choose from. It also has similar story beats to Senran Kagura. It’s as close as you can get to it currently. Origin is basically a remake of the 1st two games and it’s usually on sale. A few tips I would like to give is with this game, Senran Kagura and a few others that may have issues with looking like a handheld game or it’s too blurry for your high end monitor if this happens despite how high the settings are turned up.

1. Run the game in high DPI Settings when the game is installed.

A. Right click browse files

B. Right click the .exe file go into properties

C. Compatibility and then click on Change High DPI settings

D. Check “Override DPI Scaling Behavior” and press ok

E. Click apply.

Now enter back in the game and it will scale properly if that glitch and issue occurs like it did for me.

Rumble Roses(PS2 Emulation)-

Made by YUKES(WWE Smackdown Vs Raw, Here Comes The Pain, No Mercy fame etc) and if you play it on PCSX2 upscaled with 16X Anisotropic filtering in the options, with the HD Texture pack from GBATemp it will look even more solid than you remember it. I will also say to get the CDRomance version with all characters unlocked in the EU Version, as this will free up more time to play the storylines and take photos in the picture mode. Which is worth the time.

Not going to do a full post, but there is this game called "Lost Ruins" which I played a while ago. It's a hard metroidvania with some fan service. Think Momodora.

I'm posting about it, since it's free right now on GOG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/lost_ruins

Get it while it's hot, you won't regret it!
+1 shilling lost ruins. Lost ruins is really good, fun gameplay, can be set to challenging, cute as fuck pixel-art, filled with oldschool japanese fanservice tropes. You just know these devs consumed the right stuff to put into this game, they promised all of this in their crowdfunding and they delivered. Great great indie game.

The vagrant is good but devs were still learning, and the gameplay got hit with the inexperience. They are hard at work on their new game and it looks pretty good.

Yes I can agree lol. Oneechanbara is really the best thing ever and it's sad that D3 is relegated to just EDF now. Konami I will kind of say was cool for Bombergirls but that was desperate pandering.

There is one game I do not think many know about. This was made when Square Enix did not exist.

Super Galdelic Hour made by Enix. Definitely a great party game even if you know some Japanese or none at all. It's very obvious how to play the game with its Mario Party Visuals. You can buy outfits and replay minigames. It's short 4 to 5 hours to get almost everything, but has good replay value. Especially if you are running this on an emulator.

Lol man I would love to recieve some Bombergirl pandering, saw bombergirl was coming to pc, got excited, looked it up....turned out to be some pay per play shit...I dont even know how something like that works or more importantly why someone would play that....

Had no idea about Super Galdelic Hour. This looks super cool. I know a lot of the games especially jp exclusive ones from this era have that obscure aura or something, but one that is a fun party game WITH fanservice and kawaii:ro-hyper:. I am tempted to buy a physical copy just for collection's sake. Its one of those games.
