SAO spin off Gun Gale Online light novels are localized, suppressing honorifics and changing Miyu/Fukaziroh turning her dialog from a boke character to deviant art comment sections; but one offense that is a technical fault and shits on the entire premise is changing from metric to imperial. Badly.
The author of this work is the guy who wrote Kino no Tabi and mentions in an afterword going on trips to gun ranges in Asia for the SAO production that introduced GGO. Every single encounter has a basis on line of sight, plain distances and effective (shooting) distances; hence measurements are important, but localization demands imperial: that would be alright except that you can't really trust the likes of a localizer to use a calculator correctly.
Just imagine, a 27 inch blowback fold-stock pistol SMG.
So every encounter and place is subject to this jarring 'how retarded was this guy feeling when converting that day' factor you cannot really measure while you also reverse translate characters going "Wowzers" (multiple times.)
Manga adaptation was translated by the same guy, and he works with Shonen Jump
