If you can try to screenshot and use Archive.is to save the page whenever they write anything dumb and post it here. Because a lot of these localizers tend to say something stupid and then delete their tweets right after. As long as we keep it saved here eventually someone will stumble upon here with a mountain trove of evidence to put on Youtube videos for all of eternity.
I came across this discussion under a video titled “So don’t defend shitty localizations.”
And since the topic of my translation of Xenoblade 2 has been brought up, which is supposedly “literal and characterless” (by the way, no, this translation is not literal; in many places I had to work hard to make something sound good and preserve the meaning of the original – I just wasn't writing fan fiction), I read the entire thread.
And really - I can't comprehend what's going on in the minds of localization defenders. What this guy is writing there (to which he gets overwhelming counterarguments, but he's probably too stupid to understand) crosses all boundaries. I don't understand how anyone can be so narrow-minded.
It's worth reading, not for the defender of the localization, but for the counterarguments. Really well written, without using profanity or insults, just pure facts.

I keep thinking the main problem is just sunk cost, they spent so much time playing the game that they wish to sound pretentious and act like they are superior. It's like seeing Dunning Kruger in action at times when they speak "I know Japanese" "You are insecure" it's like this projection and pretend knowledge to act like they are the authority and are delusional despite evidence pointing to the fact the script is altered in ways that really change the world and characters in such a way that waters things down. There is zero defense against something that alters the meaning of things with the exception of names due to copyright infringement.
I find it funny as it goes on he starts to write less words and begins to realize he can not formulate an argument without using "But the Official DEV team had input" which they should realize is a weak defense. They do not know English, Spanish, Tagalog,German, Italiano, British, or any of the other languages in that studio so of course the NOA/NOE accounts are going to use that as advertisement to cover the Translators for messing anything up. Also have they considered that Xenoblade Chronicles would sell a lot more if the story was what it originally supposed to be? I wish people could see the differences like a scene by scene example of it in Japanese, in English and in the version you are creating that have huge impact so they can realize just how heavy the censorship is and realize that the Japanese Version and your Version are superior to theirs because it's Authentic, it's not trying to be something that it's not. The worst excuse was seeing how "it would distort the characters" if it was written near 1:1 from the Japanese counterpart. When they have NO real basis for that to begin with and could not name examples. Japanese things always have origins from various religions and is theistic to a fault with multiple gods, religions etc and it's what Xenoblade Chronicles is truly about in the grand narrative.
His argument is very lousy, but then again it's Daiz the same guy who disliked Senran Kagura and ended up looking bad as a whole.
The day of using AI Translations as common-place can not come soon enough. American companies here are notorious for offering a lot of money, trying to change the product to suit their own Gen Y Gated Community mindset than to put out a product that stays true to what it's supposed to be.
That whole leak is full of examples of how badly localizers are ruining Japanese games at the source.
This is very polite speak for "They are noticing" "Shut it down". This is why I did not buy the Switch 2, alongside the other awful decisions like Game Key Card, and forced censorship for other companies putting their games on the platform. There is zero reason to own a Nintendo product these days as it is just copy and paste from BOTW with make everything Open World, collect things. I choose to not support platforms, places or game companies that are like this. It's why i am going to get a Steam Deck or a Steam Machine soon, because even if Steam has issues i can at least mod the games and install a new launcher.

These clowns spend a majority of their time circle-jerking each other over their butchery of translation that could be better spent learning and perfecting their craft. It's been shown many a time on this forum that they know barely any more Japanese than your below-average weeb, so they ought to just shove it up their asses.
As for that second guy, Hakanaiblue..., He's done solid work on some Touhou fangames (namely Mizusoba's and Strawberry Bose's), so I'd prefer He keeps His nose out of this. At the very least, He sounds like He simply prefers other translation methods, and doesn't come off as snobbish compared to that other Fatheaded narcissist (from what I can read).
