he's the owner/admin of r/visualnovels and had a lot of shit on his reddit which he nuked after some faggots stalked him IRL and threatened him over it.
I think we are gonna have to somehow get in touch with the guy if we want to archive the stuff he has on here

It is imperative that we get gambs here for documentation and maybe to even join the fediverse
The information he provides is too valuable to lose and it is only a matter of time until another troon throws a shit fit and gets him banned again
I DMed him but he hasn't responded yet
it's likely he had his account locked for a whole week so we are gonna have to wait until it gets lifted

Sankaku is NSFW and clickbaity but the topic is relevant. This is especially annoying to me because i have noticed this exact phenomenon lately while playing FGO in Japanese. Lolcalizers keep removing any mention of gender, especially about women and rewrites it to be gender neutral.

For example: a woman (Suzuka here, but also others) said if she can't even live up to a certain expectation, she's trash as a woman. EN changes it to: i can't live with myself. Male characters use this expression too (if i can't do this i'm not a man/trash blabla). I haven't check if they do the same but wouldn't surprise me if they left the trash part intact for the guys.

Shimousa is even more infuriating because it concerns the chapter's main character: Musashi. For context: The Miyamoto Musashi from FGO is a woman from another parallel Universe. It was surprising for her that the Musashi in our Universe is male. One of the main focus of her character is that she is a woman and her struggles. Not only was she compared to boys growing up (Father kicked her out because he wanted a son) but even in the main story, other characters keep coming back to the fact she's a woman as well. Yet again, they rewrite specific mention relating to her being a woman. For example: after defeating Raikou, she praises Musashi with: "your competitiveness does not lose out to any MAN" (the word MAN was emphasized, i may add). EN changes that into: your competitiveness does not lose out to any SWORDMAN. Again making it gender non specific.

There are a lot more examples in this one chapter of this one game alone. And i only caught those because sometimes a sentence is difficult to understand (FGO's a bitch to read), so i've to look at multiple translations for that sentence to get the meaning, including the official NA one. I'm sure it's 10x worse if you go over the whole script. And this is in addition to NA localization for this game being a clown show already.

And let's be honest here, it's an American thing. Don't these clowns realize that no one outside America is as obsessed about gender as they are?

Hey, this is my first post on the forums, and I just wanted to ask if there were any threads about anime localization nonsense yet. As bad as it gets in vidya, I think anime has it worse.

Just last month, the crooked organization known as Crunchyroll got their hands on anime retailer and distributor Right Stuf. Immediately after the announcement was made, fans discovered that they were no longer selling erotic goods on their website.

Yup, here’s more proof of why the monopolization of the anime industry is a bad thing. Right Stuf is also the distributor of the Gundam franchise in America, and now that the woke monsters at Crunchyroll have it, who knows what changes they’re going to make?

I'm going to start referring to people who demand gender neutrality as fag/faggot. Fuck these people.

Play-asia is getting in to publishing
I have a good feelung about it
They are based in asia so they probably have a better selection of translators and it doesnt hurt that they fall distinctly on the friend of the the friend/enemy distinction

very interesting that this news is coming out at the same time it seems a number of indie devs are calling Pqube out on some shady dealings

(archive)

another case from a few weeks back

(archive)

gets even funnier with the fact a while ago I posted how Steiner is joining Pqube lmao, wonder how that's gonna play out for him now

(archive)

but you know what they say, birds of a feather. flock together

I actually became interested in game localization a long time ago because I find the process of taking a Japanese game and making an English version of it fascinating. If I ever do get into the business I'll do my best not to do anything stupid that would incur your guys' wrath lol. Personally as long as a game has accurate dialogue that isn't machine-translation level, I'm good. Don't put memes in there unless there are actual memes referenced in the Japanese text.

It really is that simple. Don't add anything that isn't there, don't remove anything that IS there, keep it as faithful as possible (personalities, way of speech). If there is a joke that only works in Japanese then sure, go ahead and write something that fits that situation (or if it's a manga I'd prefer it explained in footnotes).
You'd really think this isn't too much to ask for but nope, these smoothbrains can't comprehend that and think we want word for word machine translations.

Oh they know. It's just a convenient shield that let them deflect all criticism. It's similar to: if you don't like the new "diverse" Marvel shows or LOTR with black people, you MUST be a racist/bigot/troll. There can't be any other explanation because there's nothing wrong with what we do!

It's the binary thinking of a child and it sadly works. Most normies are too ignorant to dig deeper and just believe their words at face value.

Yeah, they think people play and like a game because of their "creative writing" so when someone calls them out as failed writers they get all defensive.

These people will never stop with this shit. Their ego won't let them. Unless companies finally listen to our complaints and start doing proper quality control.

Until then: reminder to do your daily reps.

There’s this Digimon game I have (Cyber Sleuth) that has an atrocious translation, with blatant spelling and grammatical errors which suggest that it was written by someone whose first language isn’t English. It’s also very inconsistent with how much it’s been “localized”. Some scenes have barely been touched, while others have characters speaking in zoomer lingo. There’s also a minor character who says that they don’t “identify with any gender”. I have no way of knowing whether or not this was how it went in the original, or if this was something the “localizers” added.
