Yet i would say, Japan should have moved onto the English speaking market
What do you mean? They moved far too much into the English speaking market, that's why every game has "body types" now. It was better when games had localizations months/years after the original release or not at all.

I think he's trying to say that Japanese publisher should have controlled the English markets themselves, but that still would have failed, seeing as the Japanese publisher themselves gave away their product control to the western side of their branch. They could still change it, but like many Japanese publishers or even authors for that matter care little about the quality of their product overseas. The Nier series being an obvious one, where fans asked or rather begged Yoko Taro for a good translation of Nier Automata, yet they still gave it to the horrible 8-4 Ltd.

I do agree on your sentiment on either taking time till the product is actually finished with the whole translation/localization side, or never get it released in the west at all.
But I fear it would still never improve, as most of those on the translation/localization side are woke morons that are just doing it for the sake of their activism.

Yes exactly. Japanaese companies licensed their properties too liberalry to the western companies.

IMO by this point, just learn japanese. That the best way.

Licensing out the games was better though, since it gave the translators less influence over the original product. It used to be like "we give you permission to translate and sell our game overseas", while now it's like "we will work with you to make this game for the global market". Localizers want nothing more than to change the original product, so there needs to be a strong barrier between them and the devs.

I partially agree. While true, problem is, when they licensed them, localizators start to sell this shit like hot cakes, so it got noticed, the more money west is making, the higher Japanese companies can ask for licenses, but more they will start listening to those lolcalizers, who will start whispering sweet little lies how "problematic" content must go, to make a little more sweat yen on non-existent trans-gamer market. In perfect world Japanese companies should start in house localizations and push for preserving their vision, but at this point i think we are far beyound this point and even those companies will be corrupted. And seeing how japan slowly being erroded from withing i'll give it another 5 to 10 years at best of a good run, until everything turns into alphabet soup garbage like in the west. Enjoy while it last.

You still need a native English speaker to do a proper translation, so "in house" is just as corruptible as anything else, since it's not like moving to Japan makes these localizers any less activist. In a perfect world Japan would cut off the western market entirely and anyone who wants to play Japanese games would have to learn Japanese.

That's why I encourage everyone to learn Japanese and buy games at the source, to hopefully weaken the western grasp on Japanese games.

Well english isn't unreacheable space language. Many Japanese people speak it on a high enough level for localization work.

It's always recommended that a translator be a native speaker of the language they are translating to, otherwise you end up with weird stuff like Zero Wing.
If a person is actually a good translator and localizer, it really doesn't matter. Its an excuse of lolcalizers to emphesasize few bad works, where it did played a significant role. Of course, due diligence have to be done or we get trashfires like Shenmue.

The problem is those people will just work for international companies or embassies for 5x the pay and higher prestige. The world does run on money and "face" after all, especially in Asia.

Not necessarily. You need to be fluent in both languages and cultures (that you're translating) to be a good translator. Having a native English speaker who don't understand the language and culture of Japan so well is exactly what we get with NA localization nowadays. They just get rid of stuff they don't understand or think the plebs consumer can't understand. What annoy me is, a lot of the things they get rid of is ASIAN culture and not specifically Japanese. So the "Global" version is not Global at all. It is extremely American-centric because EU doesn't do that (or used too until they just translate the NA English version into everything else).

Chaos;head NOAH official localization team refuses to translate a term because it would be "embarrassing for everyone" in a game where the main protagonist is literally a cringe-lord incel who uses 00's internet speak

pirate the game then apply the patch, DO NOT give these people your hard-earned money

Sounds like the best way to play this game is the original version. That's why I avoided later versions of Steins;Gate, because I suspected they might be censored.

I'm guessing they are banking on the fanbase to fix their mess while they get paid for minimal work.
especially considering prior to the official release even being conceived, committee of zero were already working on a translation for the past 5 years and haven't canceled the project despite the announcement of an official localization.

Honestly seems like the best way to play the new one is wait till the new patch and apply it and pirate the game. It's a shame too since it got unbanned from steam just to have the official translation be ass.

I even seen an actual game reviewer basically promote the fan patch.

I love how there's a bunch of people going "This is what those anti-loc people want" Like no bitch, if there is slang you can translate it as slang. (TL Notes are always appreciated though)

THIS is when it pisses people off. When you just go way overboard and make people talk in a completely different manner than they did in the original.

Seeing a line like "the chest is empty" or "im going to the store" gives them the idea that it is time to flex their creative muscles meanwhile a line with esoteric terminology or actual slang causes them to short out and just give up
Worst of both worlds
