How the hell is a change like that 8 gigabytes? This certainly puts the insane file size of modern games in perspective lol
It's like the size of a PS3 game. I was so shocked about this because it's like pointless. I did not think that would happen. I remember when they did this for KH 3 where they reanimated cutscenes and changed things up to enhance the scenes not remove anything.
I mean literally this is what I thought Square Enix did at first. But it's just way more sinister.
How the mighty hath fallen as they say. Sad too. I miss Squaresoft. Botched localization has been a thing for awhile now too unfortunately. God bless some if not most fans, I'd say fans in general for undubbing and re-translating games, but even some of the fans change shit in their vision because it offends them. One of the more recent ones I remember was Maji De Watashi Ni Koi Shinsai!! where the translator got offended at the line "I'm not gay", oh no how incredibly offensive lol.
I can not help but to laugh at that end part. The thing is I would argue it's been getting worse though. There is a difference between honest botching and clearly writing around the dialog itself that offends the 0.02%. FFXVI I think should have been the warning for everything thinking about it now. I mean the censorship on Shiva being a woman, the dialog about child rape which is essential to grimdark fantasy to make you really hate the villain. Even the way they promoted this game where they literally thought they had it in the bag if they made everything easier and put Yoshida out there was really amazing lol. They expected 8 million sells week 1, they ended up getting 2 million in a month. That puts Square Enix in a hole because the higher the budgets the more money they need to make back.
I always knew SE was a shitshow of a censorious company but I didn't think they could sink as low as Skull Girls dev, to even go back and censor stuff the woke schizo get mad about.
Me neither I even defended them in the thread before i found out what was happening. It hurts because Atlus and Square Enix are right up there for a lot of us in JRPG's and seeing Atlus being bullied by SEGA into making everything Persona BUT X and Square Enix still doing this despite getting rid of the ethics department and also announcing AI translation. It should be an automatic W and a turn around.
I will not be buying Rebirth or any Square Enix title until things truly change and I can see it Including Atlus or any other that is compromised. I recommend everyone doing the same. Because just complaining about ESG, DEI, Woke is not going to do anything hitting them in their pocket always does. The only exception should be Anime games because yes even if Anime is toned down from where it used to be Anime games always have rules to never deviate from the source material especially by Publishers and Mangaka are vocal about any changes that would happen.
