Discussion Steam Summer Sale

Thread Description
The jews get my money once again

its that time of year again, the Steam Summer Sale.
So I'm curious what're you guys picking up (if anything).

Since I've been in an Ace Combat mood lately, and already beaten all the playable ones (PS2 games + AC7, fuck you PS3/Xbox emulators, also the weird gameplay choices they made for Ace Combat 6) i'll be getting Project Wingman.
I was suggested Dragon Age Origins, and advised to avoid Inquisition and 2, so guess I'll be doing that.
and finally Metal Gear Rising, since I hated it when I played it on PS3 (I went into the game thinking it'd be like one of the main line Metal Gear games), and decided to give it another shot since I want more Metal Gear, and don't really feel like playing 5 or 4.

All that for a total of 34 dollarie-doos.

Considering how large my backlog is at the present, I don't think I'll be spending much this sale. I mostly need to spend money on a new PC, but it's still almost impossible to get your hands on parts unless you either get very lucky or are autistically searching every minute of the day for one (and still get lucky).

I will definitely be getting:
  • Little Witch Nobeta ($8.99): Early access game that is basically the loli version of Dark Souls that is continuously worked on by a team of seemingly passionate developers. This is exactly the sort of game I want to play made by developers I want to support. For those unaware, there is a thread on it here.

I am considering picking up:
  • Koikatsu Party ($47.99): More or less the gold standard for anime-themed lewd games at the present. If I'm not mistaken, it rarely goes on sale (or at least that's how it used to be), so I'll probably take advantage of their incredibly generous -20% deal.
  • Fate/EXTELLA LINK ($29.99): One of the better rated and enjoyed hack-and-slash RPGs from the Fate franchise that's available on PC. I've also heard that this game is rarely on sale (tends to be a trend with Japs) so I might go for it even if it's a bit steep.

In terms of recommendations, I would suggest:
  • 100% Orange Juice ($1.74): Without a doubt one of the best party games available on Steam, and as always it is ridiculously cheap. It fuses board game design with card usage using original characters or others from the Fruitbat Factory games. Highly recommended if you want a game to play with friends (though you're bound to lose them if you play together). If you want to be a chad and buy it for your friends so they don't have any excuse not to play, the four-pack is only $5.99.

I was suggested Dragon Age Origins
Excellent! This was a very, very good choice. DAO has remained by favorite fantasy RPG of All Time since I finished it, and despite its age, it still holds up to this day. If you want any mod suggestions, I can send some your way, as like with other BioWare titles it had a fairly decent modding community around it. Should be fine to play completely vanilla if that's your preference.

I don't agree that you should avoid Dragon Age 2 and definitely not Dragon Age: Inquisition, but they are quite inferior to the original (especially the former). People overexaggerate how bad they are to the point of saying you shouldn't play them, but that's nothing but an overreaction. Yes, they were made after BioWare's golden years, but they're still playable at the very least. Make up your own mind.

I've seen a lot of people say its good, so me and a few friends picked it up while it was free, but honestly... it wasn't that good (and I got it for free).
Should round up an extra 3 bucks and get Gmod :cirno-laugh:

well guess I'll find out when I get around to finishing DAO. I'll check back in in 2 years :hinata-hyper:

Project Wingman: Review kinda?

Now the reason I came here.

As i said I'm a huge fan of Ace Combat, and so far I have not been disappointed by Project Wingman.
The plane names confused me at first, since they aren't Project Aces, and don't have their connections they can't call the planes what they actually are (but the names are incredibly similar), and while it doesn't take away from the gameplay, it just takes a minute to adjust, and I felt the need to point it out.

Besides that the game takes place on an alternative future Earth where the world was hit by a Calamity.
In fact the current era is called "After Calamity". Original I know :cirno-laugh:.

The story setup takes heavy influence from Ace Combat Zero, you're apart of a Merc group, and you're helping out rebels trying to gain independence. (It even has a nice little reference to Zero). But none of the wingmen are hitting Pixy vibes yet.
1624577303954.png

The gameplay feels somewhat slower than Ace Combat, and the AI is still rather easy even on hard mode (then again when has Ace Combats AI ever been hard), but the visuals are absolutely amazing... then again the game I played most recently was Ace Combat 5...
The planes can carry more weapons now, you have 4 slots open to fill, but the levels give you plenty of enemies to try 'em on so don't hesitate to take a full loadout. They didn't seem to affect maneuverability so no reason not to either. Along with that the bombs hit area stays once you've dropped it so its easy to tell where you're already dropping one... on? anyway its a neat addition
20210624190856_1.jpg

The voice acting is surprisingly good, but I wish there were more lines from the enemies side, although I'm only 4 levels in so I look forward to all those desperate cries of help later on :flan-yea:. Some of my favorite parts of Ace Combat games are the enemy dialogue when they realise its Three Strikes/The Demon Lord/The Demons of Razgriz/Whatever they call you in Ace Combat 4.

The music is good too... I'm not music..ographer? so I don't have much to say about that.

uh... what else do people care about in games? I don't really have much to say so far, its a good fucking game, if you like Ace Combat you're gonna like this.
My only real complain is that the planes [ispoiler](of which I've only used the Phantom so far, my headcannon says thats Monarchs (the MC) signature plane, dev if you read this pls join and correct me i love ur gam)[/ispoiler] seem slow
edit: the thrust button on my controller was broke, planes go zoom :cirno-laugh:

oh how could I forget, there are the Ace Combat staple in the game :flan-yea: (giant fucking flying fortresses)

alright guess its screenshot time

along with all that the game has a pretty active modding community, so you can swap out to your favorite AWACS dialogue, or get some new skins :flan-yea:
No waifu skins I could find but hey... be the change you wanna see :meguwoke:

also

tldr: if you like Ace Combat, you'll like Project Wingman

Personal preference, I guess. It's cheap enough to where it's not a big deal to get it, try, and see if you like it. You can probably tell within the two hours if it's for you, but it can get fairly complex with deck building and character variety, so one may have to find what really works for them.

As for Garry's Mod, yeah that's always a classic and well worth getting (still my most played title on Steam), but I don't bother bringing it up because I figure if it was the sort of thing people were into they would have it already. Same with games like Terraria, Skyrim, etc.

One I saw was pretty cool was Everhood. It's a narrative rhythm game.

UPDATE: Played a few hours of it yesterday with some friends. It's actually really fun (and hard), but please do not even consider watching gameplay of it if you are susceptible to epilepsy :kekw: . That being said, it's got some pretty smart game design for its mechanics, and the world building is pretty cool. It was definitely inspired by Undertale, with its visual style and themes.

I'll pick up Little Witch Nobeta since the devs seem very based. Also are there really good discounts on games that don't require high-specs??:gura-pain:

Played DAO great game, absolutely you'll love it. Back in the day when Bioware wasn't completely woke and incompetent to a boot. Inquisition is apparantly not as bad as people say, but my friend who played half of the game said it's a single-player MMO kinda. The 2nd DA game was garb and unless you can find that DA2 mod that overhauls the whole game, don't play it.

i don't think Project Zomboid requires high specs, and if you enjoy survival gameplay, it's quite fun.
I enjoy barricading myself into houses and seeing how long I can survive.
The fucking helicopter gets me most of the time :gura-pain: should probably change up my strategy at some point lol

VNs can run on potato's, so if you like those I suggest you get Amairo Chocolate. It's got a very cute neko loli :cat-blush: (make sure you get the R18 patch from their site)
just checked its rather pricey oops

Fallout New Vegas has god knows how many mods and is basically infinitely replayable so if you haven't played it yet do so now

If you like rhythm games Clone Hero is always free :cirno-laugh:

ah that about lines up with what I was already told.
Well guess I'll ignore DA2s existence (if I like DAO)

Here's what I'm looking to get this time around:

Killing Floor 2, it looks pretty fun. I've always liked these kinds of survival games, should be a treat with friends :flan-yea:

DMC 5, as a bit of a shake-up since I haven't played many hack-and-slash games myself.

Gensokyo Night Festival, because I'm just a sucker for 2hu fangames I guess.

Superliminal. I want to see just how small my brain really is. :cirno-laugh:

There's some other games I've been looking at, such as Ace Combat and Subnautica, but I'm not completely sure if I'll like them. Metro Exodus is 70% off too :watching:

it is quite fun. The survivalist is pretty OP with explosive weapons. Used it to meme my way through most maps, idk if its a meta strat or if I just have an affinity for explosive weapons, but I'm sure Klee is proud of me :flan-yea:

koikatsu is censored (slider is limited, so no loli, i havent heard any official patch either). I haven't checked but a lot of illusion's games are available in DLSite so koikatsu party should be there too. Using the fan patch on the jp version should be easier too.

Man, I wanted to buy Maitetsu VN on steam because the game has some fine cute and funny content(tm) but apparently the game has borked localization that still is not patched and the 18+ patch does give only some of the 18+ content and Sekai project deletes threads and censors their own customers. I guess I'm gonna set sails for their games then:megu-shrug:. Why are localizers like that???:bep-what:

How am I supposed to play their releases when the high seas offers much better deal and convenience??

Don't support Dragon Age Inquisition at least, it's social justice garbage. The characters are shit because of that.

Oh shit, I just remembered the charts comparing how many gay and straight characters were available between the Dragon age games. And that one human male mage who was exclusively gay LMAO:ohohoh:. I already had problems with DA2 and then that sj shit, but DAI was beyond. I remember how Angry Joe brought it up in his review multiple times. I still remember how that Qunarian guy was gay ready to fuck some dude scene. And Joe and other people decided it was fine:hana-disgust:

I bought a bunch of games during the steam sale (I'll post the whole list later) and some of them aren't working. The main one I want to try, Nigate Tale shows this error:

This seems to happen with other games that run off of the unreal engine. does anyone have any tips?

I searched that file name and found this ark thread. They claim that your graphic card doesn't support dx11 https://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/615086038661092696/

also try updating your grapic card's driver

there is also another link about dx11 emulator but i didn't click it. I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to clicking unknown website (it seems to be a PUBG fans website judging from the link)

Not familiar with Unreal modding or development, but that looks like something the devs have failed to handle rather than user error. First steps are verify the game cache in Steam to make sure you aren't actually missing any files, then reboot/update graphics drivers/reinstall game to make sure it's not something simple.

The system requirements on Steam say it only requires DirectX 10, not 10.1 or 11. Of course it's possible the devs don't actually know and have given you the wrong information, which is even likely if they're inexperienced. It does line up with something about your system being different from their test machines -- do you have a 32-bit processor or OS or something? Perhaps integrated graphics instead of a GPU? Also, if you find a redistributables folder with the game, it might come with an installer for the exact version of DirectX the game requires.
