I will say this to OP. We seem to have a lot of bad faith fans in the Video Games community for Japanese content, and it's sort of obvious due to their obvious taste in Dubs and making obvious excuses due to the fact that they feel like their ego is being attacked by extension, which they should learn to read subs and realize how poor dubs are in comparison to subs. One person said it best when they watched an Anime, it was like comparing a child's book to an actual novel when comparing subs and dubs. Subs always care and everyone cheers that person on because you can tell they put in the work while in Dubs it's literally fanfiction. People are used to subpar until they experience it themselves and realize they live in poor conditions as a whole to demand something greater than what they have already. They are blind and can not understand it due to not experiencing what this could be like.
I will mention a dark secret about defenders who downplay in Video Games. A lot love Japanese content, a lot probably know internally that the translations are horrible, but the audience who defends this have a odd belief that they need localizers because otherwise content would not come over here otherwise and some defenders most likely take offense to the fact that their game is bad due to an awful translation and if it bombs there will be no more of those titles. When the honest reality is it will just make these companies have to work harder for everybody's money and have better translation quality as a whole. Especially if people are vocal about why they will not buy. The reason why AI is taking over is because people ask for it, they demand it, and will not buy until it happens and it's uncensored. I also pull for the fact that if people were able to play an uncensored version that had more authentic translations people would easily move over to it and that essentially it would change the market in that direction easily. People need to play it and experience it to see how things could be better. Otherwise they will make the same tired arguments ad-infinitum.

1)Thats exactly Narmy mentioned with Stockholm syndrome and when you think of it now with complanceny when it comes to cliques, thats exactly why i always say to stay clear of cliques and just keep to yourself at all times because when the clique jumps against you and dogpile you for say not agreeing with the lolcowlization, you get gaslit as the villain. I kinda was like that to an extent like a decade ago (though not to the degree of feeling personally attacked), but back when I was ignorant about Japanese and how localizers utterly disrespected the original work, I used to say naive stuff like "But the language is difficult to translate and changes have to be made"...it wasn't until I started seeing side to side comparisons that I started to realize that my life was a lie lol...I guess the difference between me and those lolcalize shillers is that I actually do respect writer's integrity and I would never tolerate having someone's original work be vandalized by a narcissitic lolcalizer.
What we need is good localizers, but if we can't get that then AI is the way to go and these localizers and their shillers can go to hell.
We don't really need localizers. Translators work perfectly fine. Localization as a practice is already pretty terrible, since the entire purpose of it is to erase Japanese culture and ideas to make it "relatable" to the west.
Instead of Lolcowlizers, I'd advocate to have TL Notes. For games, maybe highlight the word or phrase and you can go to a gallery that gives more information on the word/phrase and what led to its translation. Or just have text show up the same way anime fansubs do. The way anime fansubs do it already works good for anime, so keep it like that.
There is no such thing as one, gone are the days of richard honeywood and working designs and even 4kids with the memes we had over the years.

We all were once like this, we then realize that there is things that sound really weird, sort of like what the character would not say or how they usually would act in that situation it just becomes sort of weird to accept. But then when you look into the side by sides and then when you learn Japanese, and sort of realize the way they translate is truly off from what is truly being said, or even read the Japanese text for comparison you begin to see it's very inauthentic and disrespectful to the original author.
For me i am choosing to rip the bandaid off and just go all in on AI Translations. So what if it's not perfect? It's better than the Translators who do the things they claim AI will do already.
Honestly I think if we were to make something truly advanced with AI at the center we should have terms that a user can click on if it's Digital for stuff like Anime that would bring a TL note, or dictionary. or for Video Games it can be Like A Dragon Ishin where certain terms and historical things can be an easy click away and one can read the origin and timeline of the terms being described.
