Censorship Tokyo Clanpool minigame censored on Switch and GOG [UPDATE]

Eastasiasoft was forced by Nintendo and GOG to remove a minigame that was in the original PS Vita release for Tokyo Clanpool, as confirmed by Project Lead Joshua M. French (archive).

Josh even said their previous Switch releases (such as Moero Crystal H, Seven Pirates H and Mugen Souls), if they submitted them today, would no longer be allowed to release in the current climate.

Something is happening in the backend that no-one is admitting to, but I suspect it involves the ongoing Visa/Mastercard situation. Something about giving the player the ability to touch anime characters is sending everyone into a tizzy.
 
Besides the mini-game, an additional tweet officially confirms that EastAsiaSoft "were forced to cover a butt crack in the intro too. That is all."[1] Can someone post footage of what he calls the "'Ether Induction' touching mini game,"[2] as well as the censored butt?

I am uncertain whether GOG had played a part. The OP of this thread, Ebicentre, states, "Eastasiasoft was forced by Nintendo and GOG...." However, the EastAsiaSoft employee seemingly hasn't yet confirmed explicity that GOG wouldn't have allowed an uncensored version. So far, he has only directly spoke about Nintendo of Asia being the reason for the censorship. Based on the tweets and discord logs, he does confirm the GOG release to also be censored; however, he doesn't confirm a reason for the GOG verion's state. Hopefully, the GOG release being censored is just a carry-over from EastAsiaSoft starting development on the Switch port first, rather than GOG not allowing the game to be uncensored. Or perhaps, it could be a carry-over from when Tokyo Clanpool was supposed to be on Steam before Valve banned it.

The worst part about this Nintendo fiction censorship situation is that games this is going to lead to games being preemptively censored during development from now on, just like they are on PlayStation since 2018. Hopefully, Nintendo of Japan does indeed have different e-shop store policies compared to their Asian, American, and European counterparts. Otherwise, we may enter a new dark age of fiction censorship - unless game companies get annoyed about all of this censorship, and instead start producing eroge/PC games. However, if publishers and devs are releasing on Steam, then they will have to deal with Steam's fiction censoring review processes. With Japanese games getting banned on Steam, developers are going to preemptively censor every work of fiction. This is especially the case with Steam not giving clear guidelines for what to make part of an off-site patch, assuming that developers even know about the off-site patch loophole. (Besides, maybe one day Steam will disallow off-site patches). And even if developers and publishers don't release their games on Steam, they will have to deal with the pressure from Anti-Fiction credit card companies. Kill me.
 
Luckily Gog were kind enough to give me a refund to my gog wallet. almost immediately actually. Not I just have to try and find any other anime fanservice game if at all possible.
Maybe the first Evenicle or a Rance game (already have Evenicle 2)
 
Josh is a good guy and I feel really bad for him and his team, I'm grateful we at least got Mugen Souls, Mugen Souls Z, Moero Crystal H, and Seven Pirates H unaltered. I am sincerely hoping that EAS is able to provide an off-site uncensor patch for the GOG version. It's just saddening and frustrating that this is the direction gaming is heading in with all major platforms having censorship policies.
 
I had wish-listed TC. Was looking forward to diving right on in. Then...all this mess happened.

I'm quite...displeased by this sordid turn of events!

I will just say this. I do not think EAS is compromised or even Josh was intentionally trying to do harm. He most likely panicked and just did what he could to get it on all platforms as a whole. This does being credence to the fact all Nintendo branches are Independent now because Japan has its own branch and it allows it meanwhile every other one in Nintendo is basically saying they do not like it and to take out the minigame.

It's time for all of us to take the reigns on our branches and email our Branch heads to start allowing this kind of content as a whole. I do believe we are on our own here sadly. Because if Asia/EU/US etc are effected but Japan it means we are our on our own. The Blue Ocean is gone now and it's time to email and not put money into these companies and be vocal about censorship and also the blocking of content.

Maybe it's for the best because honestly @cris1010 was most likely right about the self censorship with Xenoblade Chronicles 3. This is to prevent NOA from going into NOJ and making demands of changes or self censorship. I think Japan is tired and just going to make their own version and keep it home until we do something about our leadership so they do not have to deal with it anymore. They are willing to help our Red Ocean but we have to fix our house first.

Idk if you're implying that, but I never said XC3 censorship was self censorship. :ROFLMAO:

And this "NoJ are the good guys" mentality is so silly, they are the ones who allow NoA to send censors to their Japanese offices every 2 months.
They just need to fire the people making these decisions at NoJ, the moment they start saying NO to NoA is the moment censorship disappears.

Yes the expectation was higher because Asia is less prudish about Sex than the West is unless you are from Mainland China. Asia is more accepting of the content than West is. It's kind of how crazy each branch is.

Well now it's even worse they will just "take the time" to censor the designs again for NOA/NOE version while Japan is unscathed in their own. Because NOJ has decided they do not want to deal with NOA/NOE that is great if you are Japanese it means you do not have to deal with the censors visiting the offices every 2 months and also great here as everyone can fantranslate the Japanese Rom as the official base one.

But should we desire Branches to bring us Uncensored content from 1st party? Should they stop blocking 3rd party releases? Is that their responsibility now? I think the answer to all of this is yes it is. It's worth spamming all 3 departments from NOJ/NOA/NOE Everyone needs to hear it and that we will not buy or support them if they do this to the games. Besides they want us to be in charge of our countries then again it makes sense if they know we are also getting screwed over they want us calling the shots probably because they know we want the same thing they do in NOJ.

NoJ is censoring more than ever right now, basically because they're following NoA's guidelines for everything.
NoA doesn't have artists to censor designs, they tell the devs to do it, and if they weren't forced to comply, they'd just laugh at NoA.
And if someone at NoA doesn't want to do their job after that, then they're fucking fired, it is really that simple.

NoA/NoE do not care, the same people that censored FE:Fates is still working at TreeHouse and other employees are known for being SJWs.

The first Evenicle is better than the sequel imo even though they are very similar gameplay-wise. If you did like Evenicle 2 you'll love the original game.

I agree. They are being forced to because America is the bigger market. It is 6X bigger than Japan is and outspends the Otaku as a whole. NOJ is now focusing and listening to their own people and their own audience. They do not want to listen to NOA anymore or deal with the censors coming over. So NOJ has decided to keep the branches seperate and focus on their own region with the promise that Japanese audiences will no longer deal with the West anymore. I believe we will now see a TMS and XCX thing where Japan gets the better version and America gets the censored version.

They will have to care because of the fact without us Switch 2 sales will be horrible, 1st party games outside of Mario etc will move downward and people purchasing 3rd party games will be smaller. The Blue Ocean is dying out and so NOA/NOE have no one to deal with but ourselves. This means that they will be hurting if they keep this up for the next 4 years. SJWism is on the deflation we can see that with Ubisoft and the fact everyone has PC because they are tired of dealing with Nintendo's 1st party censorship campaign and are not dealing with them blocking 3rd parties.

LOL Japanese version + AI translation it is then. Japan making games just for Japan is the best outcome for the real gamers. Now we just have to hope that the Japanese govt does not get in the way. This way, Japan will realize the NoA branch is full of shit and the gamers want the fanservice.

I'll believe it when we get another first party Nintendo game that matches this description.

Though even that isn't entirely reliable, hence the Asian version of Tokyo Clanpool on Switch is censored.
 
Since it's obvious that Eastasiasoft doesn't give a flying fuck about uncensoring the game and is content with just throwing the blame left and right, here's hoping that some mad lad either somehow manages to uncensor the game himself or ports the translation to the Vita version of the game.

From their Discord, they are looking into it, but things are apparently slow due to the holiday season. (My guess is the related people are on holiday vacations and haven't returned to the office yet.)

We will need to wait, hopefully they respond back soon. I would hope we can just have an uncensor patch or mod for GOG and sort of work our way back on Steam to prevent the bad RNG from Mary next time.
