Xenoblade 2 - Delocalization & Retranslation Patch

It's a shame that mods like this have to exist, but thank you! I'm not sure I'll make use of this mod myself any time soon, because I'm in the process of learning Japanese, but I'll be sure to spread the word. Cheers

Oh. You'd be really surprised how much has been altered in the main plot dialogues and how much the characterization suffers.
Iira DLC has the names changed to the correct ones and some fundamental things corrected, but I haven't touched the dialogues for now.
This patch essentially converts the Western version to the Japanese one, so without the original voice DLC, it simply won’t work. But that’s probably natural, as about 90% of the dialogues wouldn’t match anyway. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to use a mod that tries to stay close to the original version and still use the dubbed voices. That’s contradictory.
Wow that is just sad. But yes I agree nobody wants that. I will let my friends know to play the game and give screenshots of anything that might be off and which chapter etc. I will be waiting.

This is unlikely to happen. Comparing anything in this game by screen shots takes too much time. Time that I'd rather spend correcting rather than comparing.
Here you can see the scale of the changes. And there is still a lot left to do.
Main story is in files that have names starting from bf.
These are not ALL lines from the game. These are lines that were corrected in some way. Sometimes it's 1 word, sometimes it's a whole sentence, sometimes it's different wording and/or tone.

Anyway, I would need testers to play from the beginning. Mistakes happen - mostly it's about line breaks that result in cut off words. I'm not able to catch everything myself, even though I've been playing from the beginning since I started working on this patch.

*10.03.25*
v0.0.39

- Dialogue of the main plot revised up to the end of the 9th chapter.
- Many fixed line breaks from previous chapters (mostly 5th because this is where I am currently in the game)

Glad to see a complete retranslation for XC2 being worked on!
I'd help translating if I wasn't already working on Fates (and I'm a bit burnout from that:rolleyes:), but I'm gonna enjoy the patch and report back if I see something off.

Which I already saw a few XD:
chapter text.jpgThis happens in multiple chapters (from what I saw in the Events Theater)

kill.jpg
end.jpgThis scene is a bit confusing, the current "Nia. Kill them." doesn't fit with Nia's next sentence.

Also, I took a quick look at that list you linked and it seems like some fields are misplaced(?)

And some of Rinne's lines there aren't retranslated, like for example a few still mention "entourage" when she clearly says "harem", this also happens in her awakening scene (I think you haven't started retranslating those yet tho).

Thanks. Fixed it. It will be included in next release.
And about the blade stories - most of them are still untouched.
As for some of the fields in the comparison not being correctly aligned with each other - I need to look into that. Definitely those that have identifiers in the “label” field, like “bf01280100_0323” are correctly displayed. Those that don't have a label field may be mixed up slightly.

v0.0.40
- Dialogue of the main plot revised up to the end of the last chapter.
- Many corrected lines from previous chapters

This does not mean that the main plot is already set in stone. I'm sure I'll still find plenty of bugs (mainly badly divided lines and somehow strange-sounding tasks). “Dialogue of the main plot revised up to the end of the last chapter” should be understood more as “text has been revised up to the end of the main plot, but still waiting for potential improvements.”

v0.0.44
- Bonding Talk scenes 1-45 (out of 82) have been checked and re-translated.
- A few typos in Chapter 6 have been corrected.
How badly did they butcher the Bonding Talk Scenes? I am interested in this because for some reason Localizers love trying to talk around Bonding Scenes, Affection, and Relationship Mechanics in a lot of JRPG's.

It depends which ones. On a scale of 1-10, an average of 7, but there are also a few 10s. Like that one with moe-moe kyun or that one where Hana is barking instead of having normal dialogue.

Wow that is just sad. Yes this is exactly what i thought it would be. I hope you can post a few examples that are very bad so everyone here can post it and share it online. Like the original vs the Japanese with the Translated lines when you are done. The barking one seems very egregious and highlight worthy. It may even go down as the Saizo Tier Dialog from Fire Emblem Fates if it's a 10.

*18.03.25*
v0.0.46

- Bonding Talk scenes 1-61 (out of 82) have been checked and re-translated.
- A few typos in Chapter 6 and 7 have been corrected.

*20.03.25*
v0.1.0
- All Bonding Talk scenes have been checked and re-translated.
- A few typos in Chapter 7 have been corrected.

Quick summary:

Some typo, incorrectly split sentence etc might happen. There shouldn't be any [major] translation errors - it is being checked on a regular basis with 2 independent people.

During my playthrough (end of the 7th chapter currently), I check the dialogues as they appear in the game.
If I find anything, I correct the errors, which is included in each subsequent version of the patch.

What is done until now

- All names, proper names, place names, names related to lore, NPC names etc are restored to the original ones (in all dialogues in the game).
- Dialogues in the main storyline are translated from scratch for the most part
- Dialogues in “Bonding Talk” are translated from scratch for the most part
- Some side quests are either translated from scratch or just corrected in some places.

Will there be any more dialogue changes in the main story? There certainly will be. But I don't think they will change the meaning in any way. At most, some sentences may be revised to sound more natural or make more sense.

I would definitely need more testers. Everyone would want to play the finished version, but it is impossible for me to be able to check and test such a massive game by myself. I don't have that much free time.
If you want to help, feel free to join my discord (link somewhere above), where you can paste screenshots with any bugs found or suggestions. Or just talk about xenoblade.

I think it would be better to put a Discord link in the OP post at the end and say you need more testers. But still this is amazing progress.

My god, it's literally like they just made their own fanfiction of the landmarks, terminology, and everything else into a Schizophrenic Mechonic Mess. :shinobu_kaka:
