Xenoblade 2 - Delocalization & Retranslation Patch

ryubing is the current absolute best ryujinx fork, while citron is the same thing but for yuzu
those two should be the only switch emus you have installed, eden is its own (experimental) thing entirely

I tried using Ryubing but it got stuck on a screen showing rain clouds and rain and didn't progress past that.

I don't know what “azathier” is.

As for whether the mod is finished...

It depends on how you look at it, all the dialogues related to the main storyline, all the scenes between the characters (Kizuna) have been retranslated. Quite a few quests too. All the terminology and names have been replaced with the original ones in the rest.

Most of the side quests that don't affect the characters or the plot haven't been translated (maybe I'll have time someday).

The entire DLC (Iira the Golden Country) has been retranslated.

But all of this is written in the first post.

PS. I added a zip attachment to the first post, it finally works.

I meant azahar so you wrote down advice on how to input the patch
Azahar is a 3DS emulator, so if you are trying to patch a Switch game, it is the wrong tool.
For a Switch game, you should use a Switch emulator like Citron or Eden (which are modern Yuzu forks).
Here is the correct procedure to install the mod using Citron or Eden:

Open Citron or Eden and ensure your game appears in the game list.

Right-click on the specific game in your list. Select "Open Mod Data Location" (or Open Mod Directory).
Drag and drop your unpacked mod folder into this directory. Open the mod folder you just pasted and double-check the structure. It should generally look like this:
/ModName/romfs/

I should really switch over to citron/eden at some point. Xenoblade 2 chugs like a fag on steam deck using ryujinx/yuzu (and I swear, a recent update made to the deck made the emulation WORSE somehow, Princess peach's showtime went from a perfectly smooth 60 to a laggy 20), and if I'm to enjoy these games in their unaltered glory, I'll be pretty much forced to.

v0.3.5
- A massive amount of corrections and general fixes.
- Most of the side quests have been entirely retranslated. Many of them still require some editing, but these remaining changes are mostly just going to be minor tweaks. A large number of people dedicated their personal time to make this a reality, which is great because initially, I only planned to translate the blade stories from the side quests. Everyone who wants to be credited for their help will be officially mentioned in the first post once the patch reaches Release Candidate status at some point in the future. I want to remind everyone that even though the vast majority of the content has been translated completely from scratch, this project is still in the early beta phase. Because of this, you might see text getting cut off in certain places, or you might run into minor bugs and similar issues. This is especially true for the side quests, because the allowed character count inside the dialogue bubbles is extremely limited. As of right now, there are around 800 lines of text that are cut off. For the majority of these lines, they are missing only one or two characters. When you look at the scale of the entire script for the game, which is likely the most extensive and complex script out of all the Xenoblade games, 800 lines is essentially nothing at all. Still, please keep in mind that you might encounter this kind of thing while playing.
- A lot of the everyday dialogue lines spoken by the non-playable characters have been completely translated from scratch.
- We have fixed a very large number of bugs and resolved many previous instances of cut off text.
- All of the text lines have been run through a specific re-balance script. The purpose of this script was to divide the lines up into equal parts.

made an account just to say thank you to you and everyone else that worked on this for all your work.
finishing up future connected and am really looking forward to replaying xenoblade 2 because of this mod. was absolutely dreading it until i learned about this.

beat the game with this patch on. what a beautiful experience. i used to hate this game in high school when it came out but now it might be an all time favorite! thank you and everyone that worked on this.
i totally forgot about the credits being broken without the video file, and will have to refight the final boss when i get the time. maybe when i sit down and finish all the side content, haha. i'd like to know if theres going to be an update to the xenoblade 3 mod anytime soon, or if it's okay to just jump right into that one.

Thanks for doing this. Xenoblade 2 is one of the last Japanese games I can think of that was made for true otaku. Every other JRPG is almost always 'safe globally appropriate' slop.

Lol recently I've been seeing more people talk about your patch on Twitter, and they're coming to realize just how bad the official localization is.

The level of localization butchering on this game is beyond criminal. I'll never forgive these demons for raping this beautiful masterpiece, and I'm so grateful to rsc-pl for his efforts to salvage these games.

Finally decided to switch to Citron. it makes a night and day difference compared to Ryujinx/Yuzu. Still some lag spikes here and there, and my Steam Deck is begging for death constantly, but it does just fine. Funnily enough, some times the game runs above 30 frames, and that feels jarring because the game is TOO smooth, especially in menus. This has the added effect of messing up the core awakening scene, in which the flash of light happens at the wrong time, and the scene cuts back to an earlier point just to keep up with the end. It's nothing that breaks the game, it's just funny.

Speaking of which, my first Rare Blade...

Gothic Jessica. I can't be the only one who thought that.

can't you turn on v-sync or limit frames?

V-sync is on, but i haven't seen a "limit frames" option anywhere in Citron (unless I missed something obvious).

Edit: ...having said that, I just downloaded a new version of Citron (off the emu itself), restarted the program, and it wouldn't run anymore. So, I downloaded the newest version from github, and now Xenoblade runs like complete shit. My settings weren't any different from the previous version (I don't think), so I'm gonna redownload the older version and see if that works. I did try running the broken version in Konsole, and it spat out:

Warning: Could not start program '/home/deck/Desktop/Emulators and Randomizers/citron_nightly-4a45214af-linux-x86_64.AppImage' with arguments ''.

Warning: Child process set up failed: execve: Exec format error

Can't even download this version anymore.
I really hate emulators sometimes.

(Making a lot of edits here) Just switched to this version:

Continuous Build (Linux Nightly: 5d4bb6539)

...and it seems to have fixed the framerate issue of the previous newer version. Fucking hell, that'll teach me to not update my emulator.
