Figured we should have a thread for the shitload of announcements from the September 2022 Nintendo Direct, as I don't really wanna go back and forth reading news articles. The Direct can be watched here (skip to 29:36):

  • Fire Emblem Engage (20 January, 2023) - The newest mainline entry in the FE games. Character designs by the same person who designed Hololive's Hakos Baelz. Localization has been iffy since at least the Awakening days. Should probably skip it.
  • It Takes Two (Switch port; 4 November, 2022) - Tumblr-styled game that wants to be A Way Out. Skip it.
  • Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (early 2023) - Remake of a previously JP-only entry in the Koei Tecmo horror franchise. Has some fanservice-y bits. Maiden in Black Water was censored to hell and back. Keep a cautious eye on this version.
  • New content for the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Season Pass (13 October, 2022) - Includes swimsuits and a new character named Ino. Localization for the game gives off mixed signals.
  • SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake (Switch port; 2023) - Newest platformer akin to Battle for Bikini Bottom's gameplay. Skip the Switch port, the downgrade to performance isn't worth it.
  • Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (March 2023) - Rhythm/exercise game based on Hokuto no Ken. Skip it unless you're a mega HnK fan.
  • Oddballers (early 2023) - Shitty meme game in a similar vein to Gang Beasts. Skip it.
  • Tunic (Switch port; 27 September, 2022) - Isometric RPG with a cutesy fox character. No idea if it's good or not.
  • Front Mission remakes (1st in November; 2nd in 2023; FM3 TBA) - Remakes of the classic mecha strategy RPGs from Squeenix, whom have a history of censoring the re-releases of their classic libraries. Caution advised.
  • Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life (June-August 2023) - XSEED already made it woke by adding in 'non-binary' as an option for your avatar. Skip it.
  • Splatoon 3 Splatfest (23rd - 25th of September, 2022) - Timed event.
  • Octopath Traveller II (24 February, 2023) - Sequel to the wildly popular 2.5D RPG by Squeenix. Localization likely to be tampered in some way. Be cautious.
  • Fae Farm (March-May 2023) - Globohomo, woke farming sim trying to capitalize on Animal Crossing. Skip it.
  • Theatrhythm Final Bar Line (16 February, 2023) - Rhythm game with hundreds of Final Fantasy songs. DLC includes songs from NieR and other Square games, ballooning the price. Probably skip it.
  • Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (20 October, 2022) - Strategy RPG sequel featuring Mario and Ubisoft's unfunny rabbit mascots. Skip it unless you really liked the first one.
  • Rune Factory 3 Special (2023) - RF4 removed Vic Mignogna from the English dub, and RF5 added gay marriage and scrapped the loli DLC. Skip both 3 and the new entry they announced.
  • Nintendo Switch Online (N64): Pilotwings 64, Mario Party 1&2 (2022), Mario Party 3, Pokémon Stadium 1&2, 1080 degree Snowboarding, Excitebike 64 (2023), Goldeneye 007 (TBA) - The emulator requires way too much money in a world where free options exist. Seeing Goldeneye again is cool, though. Skip it.
  • Various Daylife (out now) - Squeenix's newest life-sim RPG. Never even heard of this game until the Direct. Probably skip it.
  • Factorio (Switch port; 28 October, 2022) - Devs pissed off leftist shitheels at some point and apparently it's a good game. Probably skip the Switch port in favour of PC.
  • Ib (Switch port; March-May 2023) - They changed the protagonist from a loli into an adult. No idea why. Skip it.
  • Mario Strikers: Battle League free DLC characters Pauline and Diddy Kong (September 2022) - Hello Europeans and Latinos, please remember that this game exists! Skip it unless you're Brazilian.
  • Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key (24 February, 2023) - Third and final entry in Ryza and her thighs' journey. I haven't even beat the first game yet. Keep an eye out for this.
  • Mario Kart 8 season pass Wave 3 (Christmas 2022) - I'm still annoyed that it's not MK9. If you already got the season pass you'll get this automatically. Skip it until there's a discount and all tracks are out.
  • Nintendo Switch Sports free update (Christmas 2022) - Adds golf.
  • Nintendo World is coming to Hollywood. Beware of used needles and BLM riots.
  • Pikmin 4 (2023) - Long awaited dandori game. If you like Pikmin you probably already planned on buying this.
  • Just Dance 2023 Edition (22 November, 2022) - Skip it.
  • Harvestella (4 November, 2022) - Squeenix added a 'non-binary' option for your avatar. Do not give them your money for this shit. Skip it.
  • Bayonetta 3 new gameplay trailer (28 October, 2022) - Hate to say it but I am pretty impressed with the gameplay here. Still miffed about Bayo's voice actress being replaced. Keep an eye out (and don't forget the first game is getting a physical release, if you're interested).
  • Master Detective Archives: Raincode (March-May 2023) - Spike Chunsoft's new game. The company has a shaky past with localization. Has a big-tiddy waifu. Caution advised.
  • Resident Evil Village, VII, 2 and 3 (Cloud versions; 28 October, 2022 for RE8, others later on) - Skip it.
  • Sifu (Switch port; 8 November, 2022) - Kung-fu action game. Skip the Switch port if you care.
  • Crisis Core remake (Switch port; 13 December, 2022) - Squeenix might fuck with Tifa's outfit again. Be wary.
  • Radiant Silvergun (out now) - Shoot-'em-up game.
  • Endless Dungeon (2023) - Isometric multiplayer game from Sega. Very diverse, very boring. Skip it.
  • Tales of Symphonia Remastered (Switch, PS4, Xbox; early 2023) - Modern port for a classic game. Don't buy it without checking the localization first, or just get it elsewhere (PC, legacy consoles).
  • Life is Strange collection on Switch - Skip it.
  • Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered (1 December, 2022) - Another Squeenix remaster. High chance of censorship. Skip it.
  • LEGO Bricktales (October-November 2022) - Not much info is given about this other than it looks like you might be creating dioramas.
  • Disney Speedstorm (2022) - Online-only rip-off of Mario Kart. Skip it.
  • Fall Guys - Season 2 - Skip it.
  • Kirby's Return to DreamLand Deluxe (24 February, 2023) - Remake of an old Kirby game. Features local multiplayer. If you like Kirby you'll probably enjoy this.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (12 May, 2023) - The sequel to Breath of the Wild. Looks cool but they're being really tight-lipped about specifics. BotW had some localization shenanigans and cute Zelda butt. Caution advised.

Personally I'm most likely going to buy Bayo 3, Ryza 3 and Zelda TotK somewhere down the line. I might take a look at Fatal Frame and Raincode but both KT and Spike Chunsoft have burnt me before. Octopath II might be good but I haven't even played the first one yet, so that would have to wait.

EDIT (14/09/2022): I mistakenly believed the new Fatal Frame game is brand new, but it's actually a re-release of an older entry exclusive to Japan. I also didn't double-check Ib's original release and made an error about its character.

Cautiosly excited about front mission :anime-think:

They changed the character design of ib!? :gura-pain::tantrum:
Do you have any more info on that?
Edit: apparently there was a steam release last year.
Also from the trailer I admittedly cant tell if they changed the character
(Granted why buy a game you can get for
free on pc is anyone guess lol)
Also excited for pikmin 4

I jumped the gun. My brother mistook it for a different game (most likely Mad Father), and I just went with that without checking. Taking a lot of Ls today, I am.

Fire Emblem Engage
I probably pick it up used after finally playing 3 houses.
Character designs by the same person who designed Hololive's Hakos Baelz
Didn't know that. Pretty interesting how things cross paths sometimes
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse
Yes 5 was censored, but I'm still glad Nintendo started bringing japan exclusives to the west. Still want a Project 0 Collection though, since especially 3 is quite expensive
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
The second there was any grass on screen the FPS went to shit. But yeah a "non-binary" option? Really? Fuck that.
Octopath Traveller II
Liked the first one, however I hope they make the stories flow more into each other than in the first one.
Theatrhythm Final Bar Line
If it's less than 30$ I might get this otherwise no. Really love how they can announce DLC while announcing the game. It's always a good look...
Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key
Still haven't played the first one, but I'll play this one on PC. Not a fan of what seems to be 480p@30fps with a lot of jagged edges.
and don't forget the first game is getting a physical release, if you're interested
Really? Thats great! Hated how it was Download only so far.
Resident Evil Village, VII, 2 and 3
Do these cloud versions actually sell?

This direct was kinda meh imo. Some games I might get later down the line, but that's about it.
As for buying used if you want to play some of the games, but not give the creator money: Nintendo games usually don't drop in price too much, however there is often this window after a couple of months were everyone is selling their previous games to afford the new ones. Most of the time it'll be about 33% to 50% cheaper.

  • Tunic (Switch port; 27 September, 2022) - Isometric RPG with a cutesy fox character. No idea if it's good or not.
Tunic is on PC, it will be way cheaper on PC is my best guess.

  • Theatrhythm Final Bar Line (16 February, 2023) - Rhythm game with hundreds of Final Fantasy songs. DLC includes songs from NieR and other Square games, ballooning the price. Probably skip it.
I might get this just because I like Rhythm games and the previous ones were kinda cool.
  • Factorio (Switch port; 28 October, 2022) - Devs pissed off leftist shitheels at some point and apparently it's a good game. Probably skip the Switch port in favour of PC.
Will have likely none of the Mod support that PC has, which is what everyone I know who plays and likes this game use, none of them play the base game.
Might get, might not, I'll see.
  • Resident Evil Village, VII, 2 and 3 (Cloud versions; 28 October, 2022 for RE8, others later on) - Skip it.
Ah yes, online cloud versions, will be trash.
  • Crisis Core remake (Switch port; 13 December, 2022) - Squeenix might fuck with Tifa's outfit again. Be wary.
Have on PSP, skip.
  • Tales of Symphonia Remastered (Switch, PS4, Xbox; early 2023) - Modern port for a classic game. Don't buy it without checking the localization first, or just get it elsewhere (PC, legacy consoles).
Have on GameCube and it already got a remaster/remake on PS3, fucking cash grab, skip.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (12 May, 2023) - The sequel to Breath of the Wild. Looks cool but they're being really tight-lipped about specifics. BotW had some localization shenanigans and cute Zelda butt. Caution advised.
I found BotW boring and lifeless, skip for me.

I just got Asynchronous FTTP finally on Monday, getting 937/48 Mb/s
Everyone should have had this 8 years ago, but you know, government intervention and all.
Nice. How much was it?
That's the biggest issue we currently have, FTTP should be the standard but the gooberment wants to pay up the arse for it, that and internet here is overpriced.

Is the installation is free as it is part now second part of the Government rollout, the reason I say we should have had it 8 years ago, was when one government was in the middle up rolling out an upgrade to the network, governments changed and the new one just fucked will all the plans and put everything running through the existing copper cables, so we still had dog shit internet.
Only now are we getting FTTP.

As for the cost though, it is setting me back $149 a month to have, so not great. Could be worse though.

Nice that installation is free but price is just retarded, this shit should be $50 tops. I don't know if it's the fucking telcos overcharging us or NBN charging extra because the gooberment wants to extort extra because all the retarded taxes we pay apparently isn't enough.

We should have gotten this 8 years ago but hey, it's australia, our government always fucks it up then scramble to fix it later.

And this is why you don't support Nintendo. Just use an emulator and stop buying from censor happy console makers.
Expect them to go back into their old ways.

We have a thread about this here:

But yeah it is certainly worrying

I was posting it here because the Nintendo direct thread gives me the impression of "be excited for Nintendo releases", while I think you should just drop console makers and focus only on PC gaming, because it gives you a bigger amount of freedom. The whole idea of still supporting console gaming is retarded. Let alone being excited about their game releases.

I like the Switch for its portability but PC gaming is definitely the future. I'd love official Nintendo games on PC but sadly it seems they'd rather go bankrupt than make PC ports.

I have issues with the Switch, along with other small/thin handhelds, they make my hands cramp up in like 10 mins. Only ones I can still use are larger ones like the OG Vita, Atari Lynx etc.

There certainly isn't much to be excited for these days, but I don't think PC is the answer either. To start playing a Switch game I just have to turn on my TV and push the home button on my Switch controller to resume where I left off.

To play a PC game comfortably I have to first connect the HDMI cable to my TV since it is too short to leave connected all the time, then I have to change my TV to a different input since it doesn't auto detect that like it does with consoles, then I have to power on my wireless keyboard and PS4 controller which don't always have as reliable a signal as a console controller for some reason so they cut out or do weird things sometimes, and I have to start whatever game I want to play from the title screen since I can't just leave it in sleep mode like I can with Switch. And besides all that some games don't even have a PC version available in Japanese and I don't play localizations, so in that case I have no choice but to play the console version anyway. Or if they do have a Japanese version it still uses the western button layout where X is accept and O is cancel, while also using Xbox button prompts even for a PS4 controller.

It's just less of a pain in the ass to play on a console.

I understand why you think this way, but I did want to clarify some things. As I explained in the OP, I started this thread because I didn't want to read news articles rounding up the announcements when I can just post them here. Even the games I recommended I did so with hesitation - Zelda has localization gaffes and Bayo 3 replaced her VA (and there's Viola to worry about, which I should've mentioned). I'm keen on Ryza 3 but I know that's coming to PC as well.

It bears mentioning that I was also the one to post the Gamuzumi news that Hex linked earlier. Censorship is a serious issue and I don't play favourites. The only advantage the Switch has is physical media. If I must choose a platform where I can physically own my games, then I'd rather Nintendo over Soyny and Microsoft. But if you don't care about that, then obviously PC is superior in every way.
