This is an article about a comic bookstore owner ranting about the current state of the industry. I can't help but notice the similarity between his complaints and ours regarding localization.
Quote: "Most of these new writers don't have the love of comics that these older writers had. And all they care about is, 'How can I put myself into the book?'"
It's the same in the manga/anime/video game industry. These localizers are not translating what the characters are actually saying, they make the characters say what they (the localizer) would say if they were the character. This can also be found in VA works (talking like themselves and not acting out the character), novel translations and more as well.
These assholes are obviously narcissists who thinks they are the center of the universe and the main character of everyone's life. But I believe it's a newer phenomena in recent years. What do you think is the root cause they're popping up everywhere?
