Imgur has announced that they will Tumblr themselves and ban all porn and anything "NSFW" from their service, as well as purge every image from inactive/unregistered accounts on May 15th.
The company said the reason they're doing this is because explicit content "formed a risk to Imgur's community and business", and disallowing it would "protect the future of the Imgur community". Of course, this is all bullshit, and it's speculated the real reason is due to Reddit going IPO and wanting a "cleaner" image. Reddit itself will likely also follow suit as they will soon ban NSFW from being accessed from their API (and thus all third party apps). They have said that "artistic nudity" will still be allowed. It is worth noting that NSFW has been shadowbanned on Imgur since 2018, but the website still allowed it until now.
This purge will likely cause insane amounts of link rot throughout the entire internet.
If you have any images, and you don't want to see them disappear, back them up now.
