I have decided to make this a discussion thread just due to the fact we are beginning to see AAA Japanese Companies betray their own cultural values in favor of the West and doing so in the most greedy of ways. To listening to localizers, to precensoring their own works before hand, or just straight out trying to extract as much out of the consumer as much as possible alongside ESG/SBI Consulting firms. These companies probably think they can takeover the West by trying to become clones of EA(Bandai Namco), Bethesda(Capcom) and 2K(SEGA). I think we should have a thread discussing how greedy these tactics are, what we think and feel about it, and honestly just vent as a whole. For me i would not mind a Japanese takeover of America, but doing it in this way is just not the right way in my opinion as it shows a lack of thought and a lack of foresight of cultural values, a betrayal of one for another rather than keeping true to onself. When Japanese Companies act like Western Companies with greed, we need to call them out and punish them no differently than we do with the West. Otherwise there will no longer be a true Japanese company to value in the future. We will be accepting mediocrity and the deterioration of cultural values.

I will start off by mentioning Bandai Namco on Tekken 8. I did not even buy the game, i only played the Demo, but i held back because the game was way too expensive. The greed of this game is absolutely off the charts, you not only pay full price for 70$, but you also have 40$ for a deluxe edition. I would be shocked when i found out, 1 month later after waiting for the positive reviews they automatically pulled out the MTX store(which should have been a sign what was going to happen next), fans defended it by saying "well the costs are high in video games and it will be for 10 years" when Battle Pass/Cosmetics was introduced to keep funding these Fighting Games to be long term, but you have that, then the store. Then here comes the breaking point for everyone in the Tekken 8 community 1 month after this.

TIME FOR YOUR NEXT PAYCHECK!!

New Battle Pass, that even if you paid for the Ultimate Edition at 110$ you do not get those new characters, instead you just get the privilege to pay more. This is something that would make Call Of Duty look like it was running a reasonable luxury hotel vs an overpriced hotel trying to scheme every bit of your full paycheck. At some point this tactic is just tripling down on money and making this into GAAS tier with a high paygate. As much as people can hate GAAS, as much as anyone like me can hate Gacha, one thing they at least have is they are free or in Valve's case with TF2 there is F2P with a Premium Paygate of 10$ for the key. Even in Helldivers II it's 40$ for a low paygate, but you can easily get everything in the game in two matches or less which does not require the pass. The problem with Tekken 8 is that not only does it expect you to pay full price with 70$ for a paygate, but it expects you to keep funding them through the store, and battle passes on top of it. It is absolutely the worst, SF6 is no different. At this point i would expect SEGA to do the same thing with it's resurrection titles.

Can anyone also point out examples in recent years of Japanese Companies pandering to a Global Mass Market that does not exist instead of favoring the Global Niche?

Its almost like a reverse n word wake up call where all these Japanese people try their best to appeal to western gaijins only to be seen as white adjacent to them since all these urinalists are honeslty just lowkey mega racist to anyone Asian.

Basically all of the big ones at this point. Sony, Nintendo, Square Enix, Capcom, Koei Tecmo, Bandai Namco, etc
I agree i think we should post examples though of some awful highlights, and speak and vent here over it because we may call out localizers and also bad localization companies, but i do think there is a fair amount of bad Censorship or Western practices as a whole that really are starting to get annoying and creeping into the West overall.

If something works, then "fixing" it is what ultimately breaks that thing, and this is a prime example of that saying playing out.
