Censorship NISA censors The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie

Undead Wolf

So the western release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie is almost upon us, and surprise surprise, NISA have fucked it up. I can't speak to the localized text (although I'm sure it has that NISA stink on it too), but what I'm referring to are the beach conversation scenes. In the original JP version, after answering 3 questions correctly from one of the girls, you would be put into a sort of minigame where you could focus on different body parts and she would react to it. You can see an example of that in the video below. Notice the grey circle.

And this is how it looks in the official western release. As you can see, there's no grey circle or dialogue that comes after staring at different body parts.

Some additional confirmation by the uploader.

Just a friendly reminder that an English patch exists for this game that you can use to avoid this nonsense.

I wonder if they'll use Sony as an excuse, or just default to 'global audiences'.

NISA shouldn't even be alive anymore. Why do people keep supporting them after the many many many times they have fucked up? Their list of fuck ups was already this long almost 10 years ago.
Because aside from the people who
  • don't know about the horrible localization
  • know but don't care about faithfulness
  • think the localization/censored version is better
there are also these people who do seem to care but just can't bring themselves to either learn Japanese already or stop consooming product

>The translation sucks
>Buys new game
>WTF the translation still sucks

Why would the companies ever feel the need to hire someone else when their games keep on selling overseas?

Yeah the relationship the EOP has with a localizer is like Stockholm syndrome.

This may be a dumb question. How can one get the japanese pc version of this game?
This I think

Yeah, if we can't even trust "our guys" to not buy this localized garbage (on top of the 3 other types of customers I mentioned) then it's sadly no wonder companies like NISA are still alive and well. Good thing I've already long given up on the localization industry, this shit will never change lol

NISA also has NIS covering up their screw ups at the Japanese side. Though, Falcom (and other Japanese companies) deserve way more shit who keep hiring NISA.

I mean yeah, definitely but as I've said: As long as their games sell well overseas there's no incentive for them to do anything. Why go through the pain of changing employees when they manage to bring in enough sales?

As long as the butchery is limited to the localization then I won't blame them for licensing to the highest bidder. Honestly XSEED seems more keen on changing games at the source these days so maybe it is a blessing in disguise that they lost Falcom.

IIRC aren't there loads of former XSEED members working for NISA on the Legend of Heroes series? Quite frankly I'm surprised NISA hasn't gone down this route of censorship at the source years ago because they seem like the exact type of people that would if they could. Ill bet they would like it if they wouldn't have to censor all that "offensive" content. So, they can spend more time putting in dank memes and game breaking bugs in their shitty localizations.

As fo XSEED. They too have their fair share of retarded localization shenanigans. Which was kept partially in check due to Tom (and that one lady whom name I always forget) and both of them had some shit takes too. (GOG interview comes to mind). XSEED went completely off the rails when those two left.
