Orkastle - A 'Japanese' Game Made In The West

I felt like shilling this here since most people here share the sentiment of the gaming industry being in absolute shambles and our hobbies being attacked right now, with wokeness/ESG creeping in everywhere and already infesting the big Japanese companies, censoring anything considered "problematic" at the source, predatory monetization practices, more risqué series and character designs being relegated to gacha, etc. In these times it is important to support devs that still provide exactly what we want, which I believe is the case with Orkastle.

To explain the title, the game is basically supposed to feel like an authentic Japanese-made game, and not something that just takes the aesthetic or other elements while being ironic about it (I'm sure you can think of plenty of games that would fall under the so called "irony weeb" label.) The game is written in Japanese first, then translated into English by himself, so there is no need to worry about any localization shit either.

As for why I am so positive and hopeful about this game, it's because I've followed Libido Kamen/Howard Blast for quite a while and he is an otaku in the truest sense, and very passionate about otaku media. I came across him during my Japanese learning journey, and since he is fluent I was able to pick up good advice from him.

I'd recommend you simply watch the video for more details but to briefly sum it up
  • horror themed, story driven JRPG
  • theme of the game is protecting your allies
  • written entirely in Japanese
  • has loli characters
  • optional ero content
  • planned release 2025

Now, I am of course not asking you to just blindly donate to his Patreon (I myself don't). I am well aware that there have been far too many games like this that just end up scamming people out of their money, being stuck in development hell forever or being completely abandoned after the devs have made enough money from donations. I am just asking you to keep an eye on this game, and when it is finished pick it up if it piques your interest, and of course share it around if you liked it. I have kept up with the development of this game from the start and it is quite impressive how far it has come, which is why I am hopeful it won't end up stuck in development hell like certain other titles.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

First let the game come out and settle in the market properly before supporting anything. Refuse to be a blind consumer, rather wait for the product to establish itself so that only it's true qualities will speak for themselves to the market.

And I don't disagree. That's why I said to wait for it to come out and pick it up if it's good. I just believe it's worth keeping an eye on.

Looks good, will keep it on my radar.

I mean there is always going to be risk in donating to any project, I myself donated to a kickstarter, back when that was a thing lol, for a city building game that never saw the light of day. Still I feel some level of faith is necesary for independant projects to actually succeed.

So personally, Id say if you have some amount of money you arent gonna miss, which admitedly not many people have these days:gura-pain: ,you might as well donate right? Idk Just a thought
