A new boxset is coming for the Kirby anime from quite some time ago and many realized there was a warning on the official sales page saying that content in the series may be “inappropriate by today’s standards”, which will have many curious what content the warning is referring to considering the overall tame nature of the series.

Hoshi no Kirby (also known as “Kirby: Right Back at Ya!” in the West) originally aired from October 2001 to September 2003 and ran for 100 episodes, and now a new BD box has been announced, promising an HD Remastered version of the series along with bonus features and goods.

There were also warnings included on the store pages for the boxset, and a translation was provided for a warning present on the ValueMall page:

This product contains anime footage that originally aired between 2001 and 2003. The footage, structure, and dialogue of this work contain some depictions that may be considered inappropriate when compared to the values held by modern society and today’s human rights awareness. However, please understand that in the interest of preserving the originality of the work and the historical background of the time during which it was produced, no alterations have been made.
The Kirby franchise has often been regarded as being all-ages and family-friendly, so those on social media were quite surprised by this warning, but it is alleged that the warnings aren’t too shocking as the anime apparently has a lot of “dark comedy”.

Villain King Dedede would often utter “risque phrases” about his misdeeds, such as by saying “It feels great to destroy the environment!” whilst demolishing a forest – the remark apparently reached meme-like proportions in Japan.

Other scenes said to contribute to requiring the aforementioned warning include an instance in episode 49 where Dedede forced villagers to produce an anime without rest, and one moment in episode 72 where Waddle Dees were being sold through a vending machine.

Such a warning might also prove relieving as it implies that nothing from the show has been censored.

Pre-orders are open for the BD boxset, which will release March 14th, 2023 in Japan.

Even more concerning that a Japanese shop is saying that
It's less the shop and more that is what is printed on the DVD box itself.
Even back in 2001, the Kirby anime and its studio were notorious for being 'yabai', and children loved it for being 'yabai'. Mothers not so much.

Takhino: "Well, umm, Japanese South Park, aka 'Hoshi no Kirby', was not an appropriate expression even in light of social norms and human rights awareness at the time it was aired..."

Same goes for the Kodomo magazine, CoroCoro Comic, that serialised the 'Hoshi no Kirby' manga adaptation by Hikawa Hirokazu along with the Mario comic where you got to see Peach's naked peach (Kirby didn't need much fan-service since Kirby already looked like a giant walking boob). The 'yabai' nature of this magazine from the 1990s has led to it getting remastered and released in recent years cause everyone wanted to re-experience all the 1990's 'yabai'. I can only interpret the Kirby anime boxset's 'warning' the same way one would interpret 'The Spectacular Spider-man' issue with the "Editor-in-Chief's Warning: This Story is Funny. On Purpose. Beware.". Basically, just a ploy to get you to shell out ¥49,500.

CoroCoro Comic Stuff:
The funniest one is the comic with the 'girl', Sakura. That manga was ahead of its time before the Otoko no Ko Boom (男の娘) exploded in the mid-2000s.
The Robopon manga adaptation is the most notorious instance of 'ロリ超乳' (Loli Chounyuu) in a commercial magazine, and since it was aimed towards children, you could blame it for jump-starting the titty monster loli fetish that's becoming more and more prevalent these days. It's also worth mentioning several of these CoroCoroComic authors do adult comics, so these comics could be construed to be a means to brain-wash the tastes of kids into becoming future customers.
