They omitted what she said in the interview, I believe.
I saw people on Twitter speculate they changed the ending in response to poor market reception and brand damage in places like China and Indonesia.
All I know about this is that this Witch of Mercury Gundam was just garbage. 
What I also heard is that this yuri in Mercury was exactly this, looking a lot like the western gay community.

Weird, right? Much of the gay shit in anime isn't popular with the fags, and yet this was. That's why I also believe it's very close to "western faggotry".
The reason the VA's opinion was buried was because they were overstepping their bounds. VAs rarely know anything about the characters they play, but they definitely like to think they have creative control over them. The writers of these series always leave this stuff up in the air and they can't have a VA undermine that.
The directors choice is purely marketing because the Gundam series is made with teenage boys in mind. And no, I don't care that a large number of fans of Gundam back in the 70s were women. The majority of these mecha shows are clearly marketed towards teenage boys, just look at SSSS Gridman. An entire series of cute and fat titty girls and some tomboy/loli types.
Mercury was much the same, even with the yuri bait, because despite some people's opinion, yuri bait is made for guys. This choice though, along with the school(?) setting and focusing too much on the power fantasy, also made it not all that popular in Japan. Die hard Gudam fans did not enjoy the series at all.

I don't know man, probably the pandering to fags? Eastern media does three things surrounding yuri and yaoi. Either be subtle about it (so they're taking it seriously), demonize it (and rightfully so) or make a huge gag out of it. They usually mix these up, the last two mostly. Eastern media does not pander to fags, no, you'll find it hard to point at actual pandering with the actual definition of pandering.
Western media on the other hand? I'm reading a web novel right now called Worm, right? You know what the first or second thing I was told by a character that is supposed to be a cool, one of the strongest superheroes in the novel? "I have to get back to my husband"

None of the stories involved really needed this. It could have literally been "I want to return to my wife" for the first guy and "I got abused" for the second guy, and the stories would have gone the same.

I can confirm on brand damage in Indonesia after the last episode was aired. Some of the new waves of Indonesian weebs (commonly called muslim weebs/sharia weebs/wibu rohis) are as retarded as western fags and they are like the opposite side of same coin as western fags. For example, let's say western fags is drooling over The Witch from Mercury while condemning High School DxD, then this certain group of Indonesian weebs is doing the opposite, drooling over High School DxD while condemning The Witch from Mercury.
