The Coffin of Andy and Leyley (otherwise known as 'that incest game') has returned to the Steam storefront in Australia, after the benevolent overlords in the regime slapped it with the highest rating allowed.

This news follows shortly after the game's store page mysteriously vanished for Australian users (myself included) sometime before the 17th of January, 2024. With the game returning to Australia, the developers decided to put it on sale at a 20% discount as of the time of writing.

An archive for the progress report can be found here. The report warns that the game could be banned again in the future.

The issue related to availability in Australia has been resolved for the time being, and the game should now be available for sale once again on Steam. The game now has a rating of 18+ for high impact themes.

However, this is not a permanent resolution. Game ratings can be changed or revoked, and some countries have legal mandates related to ratings. This can determine whether a game can be sold on a digital market or not.

Australia's classification law reserves the following:

Section 21A:
Revocation of classification of films or computer games that are found to contain contentious material

Just be aware that the availability of this game on Steam could be dropped from certain regional markets at any time.

In such events, this generally only affects the sales and store presence of the game.
If you already own the game you should still have access to it in your Steam Library.

WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?

In Australia, for a piece of media to be 'refused classification' (banned), someone has to submit it to the government for a content review. This review determines whether or not the media in question adheres to or violates government guidelines, followed by a rating judgement and an appeal process. For example, To Love Ru Darkness was banned in Australia because Western Australian police confiscated someone's package and submitted it to the government, where they did exactly what you expected.

Yes, this is completely fucked up. Yes, this is extremely easy to abuse. And no, there's nothing we can do about it - unless the Australian Classification Board is completely dismantled and abandoned.

All of you have probably reached the same conclusion as me, but I believe Andy and Leyley was brought to the government's attention by an anti/Marxist who was upset by the optional incest story route, as a means of punishing the developer for standing her ground despite the harassment and death threats. For what it's worth, I did buy the game last year as a show of support, so I still had access during its ban.
