The last week or so has been quite a surprise when it comes to things on the internet.
Elon Musk is desperate to make Twitter a worse platform and paygating it. But more interesting is that the Zucc made a microblogging (yes that is what these platforms are actually called) platform himself called Threads.
Now 80 million users already "signed up" to the platform, even though you just use your already existing instagram account. Now I know that most people really don't care about their own data and how this is just another way to farm theirs, but I really don't see how this can beat something like e.g. Mastadon. People always complain how Mastadon is clunky to use, but at the same time Threads follows the current trend in tech to release an alpha version and just update it until its in beta and call it finished.
Is the draw, that you don't need a new account? If that's the case then wow have people become lazy.
Do people just hate Musk? Well in that case Zucc is probably 10 times worse!
Also it is exclusive to phones and doesn't have a web interface!
But the thing that I wonder the most is, how this is supposed to be any different than Twitter. I see it having the same retards using it, the same drama happening and the same CP problem cropping up as with Twitter.
I though the idea behind Twitter was a "solved problem", but apparently not. I haven't heard anything about Hive Social (another Twitter like platform) since all the VTweeters complained about leaving Twitter and needing a new platform.
All in all this falls in the same category as all the other social media platforms. I'm done with them and at most might use the Fediverse, but nothing else!
Also it doesn't pass the EUs Privacy laws, so it might never arrive in the EU.
Will any of you be using it? Will it die within a year? Are you already singing up?
