Has anyone seen any of the translations for other languages?
They are probably just pivot translations of the english one but i am curious how gendered languages like spanish french and italian handle it
I wonder as well actually it could be a case of like 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim , where only the English localization added the line about binary, while every other localization didn't have it

The female pronouns might just be an En thing for Bridget

Found a person claiming to know people who worked on the game, either that or the grammar is just confusing. Probably fake as the person who had him sign a trans rights Bridget pic admitted that a translator had to explain what he was signing this was 2020 mind you.

Not sure if this helps in anyway though.

Yeah, it's pretty clear they're just lying. Mainly because of the confusion with Daisuke at the time, and also because none of the official stuff in Japanese refers to Bridget as a "her", it's all "Bridget this and that", outright states him, or uses otoko no ko.

Hell, the only thing that they could even possibly have is if Daisuke thinks trans means male daughter because of that dumbass encounter. Even then, that would just mean Daisuke doesn't know any better.

Also, who the hell wouldn't speak in a language they're "fluent" in if given the opportunity.

All we need at this point is confirmation that other languages still call Bridget a him or no pronoun at all to be clear it's just the English version.

Found this article on Pixivision while I cant read Japanese, it seems to be completely different in English while Chinese matches the Japanese according to google.
Only difference is the Chinese version calls the game battle of paladins.

You can never escape these people can you?

Okay so I just looked into this and checked for German, French, Italian and Spanish. Im pretty sure the respective localizers used the English version since pretty much all of them seem to call him a "she" although when it comes to Spanish I couldnt really find anything that hinted at him being called a "she" but I was just using Google Translate. For Italian I also had to use Google Translate but there he is definetly described as a "bounty huntress". So Im only 100% sure with German and French.
On a sidenote I just checked how Testament got handled in the German Translation and Jesus Fucking Christ I wish I could punt the people that did this outta the atmosphere. The entry uses what is basically some "neopronoun" bullshit to talk about Testament.

Interesting piece also highlights localization difference a bit.

I hate my fat fingers didn't mean to fully post.

Archive in case user gets dog piled and deletes or goes private

Anyways key point is the difference of boy and man. Localizers again messed with the context of that line, changing I'm a man to I'm a boy, according to the piece, in Japanese I'm a woman would have been used instead to imply he's a trans woman.

It's not going to change any head cannons or websites, but it's clear ass evidence of localization fuckery now with the fact of changing man to boy.

The article was a very interesting read and I would say it all really boils down to cultural differences. Ever since this whole gender bullshit got popular it has only really existed in the West (particularly in the US) and now the troons have started to impose their totalitarian way of thinking on western society. Meanwhile Japan (and other cultures) kept their own/older views on gender roles etc. and are now being attacked by the troons through a culture war. I mean just look at Europe at around the beginning of the 20th century where it was usual for higher class families to dress their sons in (what is today perceived as) feminine clothing. You can often find childhood pictures of famous monarchs of the time where they are dressed in fancy dresses and have long hair.
But sadly because western society has slowly allowed these parasites to grow and grow to the point where they have a growing influence almost everywhere they now can manipulate most media however they want.

"The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words." - Philip K. Dick

Are you talking about this?

"but he's a guy, otokonoko (trap)"

It's funny how the people in the article are saying "her" but the art they're posting is calling Bridget a guy.

Btw, there is a whole section on pixiv now about the controversy. Just put it into deepl. Click on the section calledトランス女性としての位置づけ

At least for german I'm pretty sure that it is the standard to go either with the english or french source no matter if it's the original or not. This often leads to (in my opinion) pretty bad wording which makes no sense if you would properly translate it.
Also very rarely when using the phrase "I know people/someone" is it actually the truth. If they would actually know them, they would either have a name or at least call them a friend. It's the easiest way to provide a source without having one.

Also on a side note: In the next game all the characters actually come out as trans, non-binary or maps.
source: I know people who are working on the game

Yeah when it comes to big projects like a game it's just way faster and cheaper to translate from English to German. I guess I'm just used to Mangas because here they're usually translated from Japanese (but that's obviously way less work than translating a whole game).

On the "I know a guy" thing it really is just the "source: dude trust me" meme and what if perhaps I'm actually best friends with Daisuke and after Bridget got released we laughed our asses off at all the troons in the West calling Bridget a girl and he made 41% jokes the whole time. I'm just saying I know some people you know?

I watched it aside from the neutral stance at certain times, and the fact that claiming all endings are cannon, pretty based basically going over some of what we found and said context changes and how the jp fans see Bridget, good video overall, I can't wait for Dimitri's to come out though , that boy is going in depth.

Yeah quite good video although I wish he would've been a bit more confrontational towards the trannies but yeah I guess that wouldn't be smart if you want the video to stay up.
One thing to note is that "Otokonoko" has technically two different meanings, there is 男の子 which means "boy" (and as far as I understand can also used to say "male") and there's 男の娘 which means "male daughter" which is obviously a semantically wrong term but as he explains in the video is the term used for very feminine men in Japan. Also funnily enough this could also be seen as the origin of the trap meme, since both of these words being pronounced exactly the same definitely leads to some confusion.
So if ArcSys would've wanted to really change Bridget's identity they definitely wouldn't have written "he's a boy" and even if they had used the other meaning of Otokonoko that would still obviously mean that he sees himself as a dude.
Please take all of this with a grain of salt since I'm still a layman when it comes to Japanese, although this whole situation is actually a pretty good motivation for learning Japanese because then you wouldn't have to rely on these horrible localizers that change actually well written characters on a whim just so the characters fit their ideology.

yea have to agree. he def tries to play it a bit more neutral and in the process, I think he gets a few things wrong. but overall id say the video is fine

I do like how he digs into the deep internet lore of it. as that's something I think a lot of zoomers are missing in this. and how the attempted erasure of that history is related to the troons being fucken troons. and there need to be constantly validated by everything around them.

so even if he is not 100% correct on some things the angle he took was different than most people have been seeing this.
