It sucks that nobody seems interested in even trying to fix these issues. Like, even if it isn't a full retranslation, fixing the more glaring translation issues would be MASSIVE improvements.

Japanese media has more fans then ever and yet it feels like there are less people interested in doing fan translations when compared to 15 years or so ago.

Yeah but it is incredibly unrealistic to expect every single game to get a (re)translation. Especially big RPGs.

A PC and an internet connection. The internet is chock-full of free learning resources and raw Japanese media to practice with.

Depends. If you legitimately do not have any free time whatsoever then sure. But if you mean that there are other things you want to do (want to, not have to) in your spare time then you are lacking willingness and motivation, not time. You can make time for learning Japanese by cutting down on other activities. In the end it comes down to how important learning Japanese is for you, and how much you value your other interests in comparison. You just have to be ready to give up some other things you'd like to do in your spare time if you wanna learn a language. Even just putting aside 30 mins a day for core vocab in Anki + some grammar is a start. It will take a long time getting anywhere with that little amount of time invested though, but it's better than nothing.

The annoying part is getting the basics down, hitting that epiphany moment as Narmy said. After that, you can easily spend more time a day pracitcing your Japanese. Wanted to game in your free time? Just play in Japanese. Anime? Watch it raw (or at least with Japanese subs instead of English). Basically, you don't have to give up any of your free time that you'd spend on Japanese media as long as you don't waste that time on translations. The amount of people I see that are "learning Japanese" and then after they are "done learning for the day" they go right back to their English subs and localized games is downright infuriating.
