Well found this article from crazyforanime trivia and guess what? sex really does sell alot apparently cause you get more money from doing lewd shit than you do for original stories so yeah, people like shadman will in the end become the next bill gates and jeff bezos because of how downbad horny people can be.

idk, original lewd stuff is pretty popular. I don't really know if the piggybacking effect from a doujin of a popular series is really much greater than say ShindoL's Metamorphsis, his doujin Superpanpanronpa just isn't as popular comapared to his OC. I'd say starting out it may be benifical to do Doujin so when you do make OC people would be more keen on picking it up. Seeing unkown anime girl on cover isn't going to convince a sale unless they understand the artstyle and possibly also aimable to the storytelling.
I would probably pick up a Miku doujin even if the art may not exactly tickle my fancy, then I might pick up other nuances I like within the work that I like then I may even take the mangaka name into account.
This isn't really a large factor if the main barrier is the royalties the publisher takes over doujin is a factor of 8 (10 to 80%?).

I think it really depends on too many things to really say for sure. Generally, I'd go with no. It's probably better long term if you use OCs and gain a fanbase that way than it is to piggyback off another IP. But some people can not only pull it off, but pull it off well.

Honestly though, I think the best thing in either regard is to just make it appealing (artwise and story-wise) since that's what's gonna matter mostly.
Horny is good. But non-horny is also good.
