In the future I want to become less reliant on DVD's and normie streaming services. At the moment I'm picking out a VPN to use I'm thinking of maybe Nord VPN or Surfshark? are these good options? What VPN are you using? is there anything I have to think about?

i don't use vpns, yet i've never been caught or sent a c&d from my isp that i'm aware of

often, you just need to find a good source of torrents and software that's free

that being said, what i do is incredibly insecure security-wise and honestly i shouldn't be doing transactions or anything on this computer

since I moved out and am now at a small local ISP that is likely to not cooperate with the government I use no VPN but when I did I used ProtonVPN

Mullvad VPN might be a good option as well they recently got raided by the police and the police couldn't find shit

I used Surfshark since it's cheap and when I originally got it it was not as heavily advertised. (I do not trust VPNs who spend money relentlessly on advertising). I will however switch to:
Mullvad VPN
You can be far more anonymous with them. You don't create an account, but have a unique ID that you can charge up. You don't need to attach a credit card. You can use Crypto or even send them cash!

As for the question in the title: How can I get into torrenting?
Software:
  • qBitTorrent - Weapon of choice. The go to torrenting client on desktop
  • Brave - Browser with built-in torrent client
  • Transmission - No BS, simple & clean client. Default in many Linux distros
  • LibreTorrent - The only client worth using on Andorid
Nice to knows/do's:
  • Seeding is what will actually get you, since you are "uploading" the file and not just downloading it.
  • That being said. You should seed, since you and everyone depends on seeders
  • Private Trackers (also some public) often require a ratio of at least 0.30.
  • Ratio is acquired by seeding and means how many times you uploaded the "file" yourself.
  • It's like you take 100GB and give 100GB. It doesn't matter if you gave the same 1GB 100 times.
Also I recommend checking this out: https://shakil-shahadat.github.io/awesome-piracy/ I thought there used to be a better one, but I couldn't find it.
