the worst part about this is that the game has been translated from JP to EN and from EN to all other 13 languages that is available.
sadly, this is a very common practice in the industry. it even happens to fan translations in arabic here because TLing from English is a lot easier than learning Japanese which not many people speak fluently.

These localizers are getting beyond lazy, and they should just delay games if they can't be bothered to get the job done properly.

But then again this was most likely done by the garbage translators at Bandai Namco who seem to take translations very loosely.

Just found out that Elden Ring had it's ending badly translated, which twist the meaning of one of the main characters.

lol, all the wastes of life on reddit are trying really really hard to prove George RR wrote the entirety of ER. Too bad the man himself states otherwise. It's really obvious they just can't stand the thought that a Japanese man wrote the majority of the game.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tefyov I like how these fags can just be blatantly racist to Japanese people and everyone is just supposed to accept it.
Edit: lol, I didn't know it would post the entire thing :cirno-laugh:

If you ever feel bad about yourself, just remember. At least you are not a redditor :korone-smug:

I don't know if this is the proper Thread to ask this, but does anyone know who the group or person is that did the English translation of Dragon Quest 11?

I know little of Japanese, but I know enough to notice many mistakes and meaningless adaptations. For example, all the characters I've encountered so far, from what I've noticed in the Japanese dub, speak formal, simple Japanese.

As for the English text, it insists on adapting with a totally meaningless writing. Full of slang, abbreviations or putting words from other languages to force that "this character is from a Mexican city, German city", etc.
English is not my primary language, and it becomes EXTREMELY confusing for me to understand what certain characters are saying, because of these nonsensical adaptations that don't exist in the original text.

That's why I wanted to ask if anyone knows who the person or group that translated the game is. Or if someone has already talked about it over the Thread because of another horrible translation of another game.

Seems pretty hard to figure out, everything I've looked up about it talks about how "good" the localization is while conveniently leaving out the names of the people who actually localized it which makes me a bit suspicious.

I haven't played the game so I can't confirm anything for myself but being as the localization team isn't named online that's probably a bad sign.

Do the credits mention anything perchance?

I don't know who's working on it, but DQ's localization seems to have always been like that.

I think I managed to find out who the clowns are that destroyed an entire series here in the west.
Thank you so much Ene for the link.

I'm going to try to find out who the people are that are part of this group of translators, and see what kind of horrible opinions on the topic of game translation they post on their social media and bring it to Thread.
But honestly, I'm very motivated to send an email to Square Enix, asking them never to hire these clowns to do any other translation of any other JRPG again.

Edit:
It seems that PlusAlpha just started or completely reinforced the bad habit of translations that change names, dialogues and EVERYTHING in the Dragon Quest series.
The group of translators that translated the last game were these:

I've lost my patience with how shitty the DQ11 translation is. While it's not dialogues where there are more words in another language than English, it's a translation with such broken and archaic English that I can't understand anything, they're extremely crude mistakes.

Like the last mistake I saw, where "Kuso Aniki" was translated as "Dear Brother". I refuse to believe that the people who translated the game even know Japanese. And if they know, they're totally parasites rewriting the game's plot as they please.

A localizer plagiarized the fan translation and after it was discovered the company said that they would delay the release for "quality assurance" and I'm already gonna say it that once it pass through "quality assurance" you can be sure that it's gonna get worse than the fan translation.

I don't know if it's just this npc, but the localization seems to also do the progressive Thingman to Thingperson here.

This is something I also realized.
Something that confused me at first, because English is not my primary language and they still mix this progressive nonsense in the writing of the dialogues, I get quite confused.

But another moment that made me extremely angry was the change in the joke at this point in the game.
Where the character is called "Onee-sama", the translation is...Sylv.
The joke is entirely lost, not to mention that they changed the name of the group, where it literally has an English word in the name, and yet they ignored it and put "Soldier of Smile".

I'm confused if they changed this joke out of just progressivism or sheer desire to rewrite the scene to something the translator "thinks is better than the original text".

The JP sounds like "笑顔のパレード・Smile Parade"

My guess is that the localization is probably trying to remove the オカマOkama joke from the scene.

The men also start talking like over feminine women.
One of the guys goes from 俺Ore to あたしAtashi and ends his sentence with feminine わwa instead of masculine だぜdaze

She is too focused on exposing the failings of the localizer that she unintentionally exposed her own, wherein any “mistake” or deviation from the source material have to be intentional, rather than accidental.
