I've been binging pretty much nothing for Gundam for the last year or so, off and on and such. As much fun as I am doing that, the most recent one I finished being Victory Gundam, I'm starting to feel a bit of fatigue from watching pretty much only Gundam. So, what Mecha Animes have you watched that were your favorites? And what other ones would you just generally recommend?
Despite the intro to this, I'd say Gurren Lagann really has to be my favorite in general, even if that's probably not a particularly special answer. Watching Simon grow from a scared wimp to the hero of the universe one small setback at a time is an incredibly satisfying journey to watch, and the final battle with the Anti-spirals culminating into every past iteration of Gurren Lagann matching it's strike and failing against the Anti-spiral's drill until base Gurren Lagann breaks through is a really good culmination of every step leading up to it that always brings chills to my spine.
Zeta Gundam is probably my favorite of the Gundam shows. Kamille is cool, I like the Titans as a villain even if some of them are almost cartoonishly evil, and the Argama cast has a nice blend of characters continuing plot lines from MSG with new characters that connect to the setting as it's changed. It helps that Kamille unlike some Gundam protagonists is both more then willing to fight from the start and given many early incentives to hate the Titans, making him eager to push the plot forward unlike Uso or Loran in some of the other shows from that period (Not that I hate them, it's just annoying when the character takes so long to really heed the call to action).
