Out of curiosity, do you think it would be easier to modify the existing NISA script for 3 (and maybe 4) and fix the most glaring issues to make the script more accurate, or is the terrible translation too severe even for that?
Most of the script is not voiced, so I don't know all the places where NISA changed things, without comparing it to the JP script. The changes listed on page 1 of this thread are far from being the sum total.
And it's not just the censorship/toning down of dialogue that I'm talking about here. Those probably represent the smallest number of the overall changes.
It's also the fact that NISA often changed lines completely or shortened them, omitting things for some reason. It's really weird. I don't know if their translators were just lazy or they thought they were being funny or whatever.
Like, a quick example I can think of from the beginning of the game.
The original Japanese script has Randolph say something like:
"Isn't he one of professor Epstein's three disciples, who worked with him 50 years ago to develop the Orbal generator?"
NISA translated that as just: "He's one of professor Epstein's disciples, right?"
Just look at how much info was omitted. In the original script we learn how many disciples there were, how long ago they worked together and what they worked on. None of that is kept in NISA's localization.
Or an example of one of Millium's lines, where someone tells her that she can't do something. Can't recall the situation right now.
But, she's annoyed, so in the Japanese script she just makes grumbling noises, like: "*grumble, grumble*.
But NISA translated that as: "You're a party pooper" or something like that.
Or someone would just say "Good morning" in the Japanese script, but NISA made it into some joke, like "Hey there, early birds" or whatever.
==========================
NISA's translation is full to the brim of examples like that. I know some people don't care about changes like that, or even prefer them, because they think it gives the games "spirit" or whatever. But I, personally, can't stand changes like that. I hate it.
My original plan WAS to just quickly reverse some censorship, but the more I kept comparing the scripts, the more changes like that I kept finding, so I just said fuck it. It's too much work.
