If you are going to try to publicly demonstrate how poor the translation is, it might be better to show the work instead of just posting comparison screenshots and expecting a casual observer to trust the fan translation over the official translation.
Using Garr's comment about the village and Jisho.org as an example.
すでに敵の手に... 手際の良い.
すでに: Def 1 - Already
敵の: Def 2 - enemy's
手に: Def 1 - in the hand
手際: Def 1 - skill
良い: Def 1 - good.
And then offer a better translation. Since we already know he is speaking about the village, my personal take would be something like...
"The enemy has some skill, they already have the village in their hands."


EDIT: This is not meant as a criticism of anybody here, but rather something to keep in mind in locations hostile towards the truth of the situation.

It's a very common trend in the localization industry when it comes to Japanese media that the lowest of the low, both in terms of translation quality and character personality are the ones who end up working on this endeavor. This is why it's so important to support scanlations groups which have dedicated enthusiasts in the circles working tirelessly to provide acceptable quality translations instead of mistranslated slop.

You were right @PhantomXero1x the world values are upside down. Freedom, common sense and affection are no longer welcome in this world. People attack fiction but promote vile stuff in real world.

I had a glimmer of hope Sony might listen to logic and let Stellar Blade uncensored. But they patched and forced a level of censorship unseen on older console games. They burned all the hope I had for them. At least you can buy a physical copy and play it unpatched...

But really. Fuck this world. These CEOs/Politicians want to censor games/art but shove propaganda to children and actually push harmful stuff to children.

I would say to go to piracy sites because they still exist. The irony is that Crunchyroll exists but people are moving back to piracy because Crunchyroll raised expenses by a lot this year. It's the thing that will keep piracy and fantl scenes alive for the future.

Hey, does someone feel like helping me compile a text file or such with the worst examples of the localization and the og JP text of Eiyuden Chronicles as a comparison with a translation? I'm not able to speak Japanese fluently so some translation help would be appreciate that isn't just me using DeepL. I think it would make a good example to shut down naysayers who go "Nuh uh, there aren't that many examples it's just early game!"

The thing to remember about localization apologists is that no amount of evidence will ever shut them up. We have mountains and mountains of evidence of shitty localizations over the years yet they still like to pretend the only example we use is the patriarchy one from Dragon Maid.

Oh, in this case I was just referring to the Eiyuden Chronicle ones since I can't actively call them slurs on the steam forums and all that and shoving the dogshit translations directly in their faces is the next best thing I can. It's all spite for me.

Just something to mention, if you have a social media account, keep mentioning how much you wish A.I Translations with a Bilingual Editor in Japan/SEA was a thing whenever controversies like Eiyuden Chronicle come up. Be loud and vocal. Do not let up. We must keep pushing for this as our standard. The Localizers are afraid of the fan outcry because it only grows louder and louder with each game.
