I’ve noticed that more and more shows (especially newer ones) have started including those “zoomer speech” subtitles. You know, the ones that use internet slang in the dialogue, almost like they’re trying to replicate how people speak online. Do you think it adds to the experience or just comes...

I read even Nitro+, and various works underneath them in the Hentai Eroge Sphere. Maybe whoever is working on it should not have had them work on it if they are not passionate the title in the first place. This is most likely the same situation as Shiravune where they hired a bad translator and they worked on the game because they had no one else.

It is because they are not the publisher here, they are just translating it. Yostar is the publishers, which means it is Yostar who has the creative control for this and whose guidelines JAST would need to follow.

I find it funny that they think it's a win because it's localized in Welsh than in English and is not closer to Japanese, but instead is a plagiarized script of the Japanese Script for a British audience. It most likely explains why Ni No Kuni never sold well in the 1st place. Nobody likes localized scripts and censorship. It never has sold well, and it will not do so now because people are used to reading Manga and Anime with the near Authentic Japanese and reading this just feels like watching a cartoon or playing a Western game, not a Japanese or an Anime Game.

I self studied Japanese but the only person I'd call my "Japanese Sensei" said something like this: You could give 3 people (at the same skill level) the same JP script and they WILL come up with at least 3 different translations. And no matter how well or noble their intention (no lolcalizer), the best you'll get is still only a bastardized farce of the original.

It sounds harsh but she's right you know. Maybe not 100% of the time but close to it.

The job of someone who gets their hands on a foreign script is to be as faithful as reasonably possible to the intention of the author. It should have as few changes as possible. Your job as someone trying to localize a product is to faithfully present the product in a way that is as direct as possible, while keeping things feeling clean. For example, tonal shifts for pronouns are alright due to the way pronouns work in Japan being widely different from in the west, but what is NEVER okay is changing a name outright (Shaati>Tani) because you think you know better or don't understand it enough to get it correct.

Example of an acceptable change:

2) Naoto will actually be a troon now.
3) They'll insert an actual gay romance option for Yousuke and MC (this one's mostly me being sarcastic and cynical... but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did, going by the thirsty BL crap I've seen for these two over the years).
4) It'll lose all the original game's charm because it's essentially like P3R; a reskinned P5, instead of being its own thing.

Honestly, the important thing is Naoto, Kaniji. The Yosuke being gay thing was always in the files if you check The Cutting Room Floor, it does exist. This is why I am going to wait a day or two after release to see if Naoto/Kanji was altered in anyway or if the Translation was normal.

There are WAY too many loud assholes who love to run nonsense about those two characters, and going by Atlus's recent changes to the likes of P3 and P5, I'm not hopeful. There's also other modern day nonsense, like the anti-male, anti-father sentiments among wokalisers and their ilk, and I bet they're champing at the bit to rewrite Doujima and other male characters.

Yeah add me if you would like or give me a DM. I will try to keep in contact with you lol. I always am a huge fan of BETA and Cut Content videos and sites. It's always fun to see what was originally planned or what was axed in the game, or any secrets that are found decades later.

I can agree. It's why I will wait a few days later and wait for everyone to check it themselves to see if that was not changed before even considering buying. I like Persona 4 Golden a lot. It holds a special place of me becoming an Atlus fan in the first place, and then going onward to P3FES, SMT III, SMT IV, SMTIVA, Soul Hackers, Catherine etc. You get what I mean. To me the Translations are hugely important to the immersion of scenes and to whether or not the game lands on the charts or not. Writing is a huge part of it.

Sadly yes it's very bizarre how at times their localizers are, I mean they do keep in Romance scenes on Persona series which is great and key scenes, but then as someone who knows N2-3 Japanese they have been acting weird in recent years. So I will keep an eye out.
