no localizer is your friend, because they'd need to implement the current "industry standards" aka censoring and erasing culture in order to get in a position of one.
especially not the ones that claim to be against censorship, yet enforce it anyway like this person was doing.
their tweets often mention being "instructed" to do a lot of things so I wouldn't expect them to be as trustworthy as they may claim.

There's value in embedding yourself in the industry and keeping your head down long enough to retake infrastructure. A more optimistic reading of what he's saying might be that he's trying to accomplish just that. When half of the translation scene are attached to places like Sony, replacing them with competing infrastructure becomes far less viable. Doubly so because the Japanese have this weird loyalty to their corpos.
and this is exactly why im not big on the whole gung ho scorched earth linch all the localizer's attitude. as that approach has been proven to just flat out not work and just leads to the bad actors going into defence eco chamber mode.
if we legit want to see a change in how things are done screeching and yelling at these people on Twitter accomplishes nothing. we both need to make sure there sins are well documented (this thread) as well as take a page out of their own playbook and as said. embedding people into the system that can start to slowly change things form the inside. if it worked for them it can work for us as long as it's done correctly
I don't know jack about this dragon person or what they work on. what I do know is they posted a funny haha meme bingo that I think we can make use of and relate to as I think we all encountered such arguments ourselves at some point or another. I also think its worth noting. and I might speak for myself but maybe others agree. I don't hate people like Steiner and the over people we have covered in this thread solely due to them being localizers. I hate them due to the horrible shit they do to over people's artwork and how they act and brag about it publicly. I think it does good to be very clear about what it is we have a problem with as not to get suckered down the easy path of zealotry. blindly picking fights with people who could have been valuable allies

While it is fun to dunk on localizers when they make shitty takes it's important to remember that some of them aren't completely far gone and can be convinced to understand these arguments, the problem is that constantly being antagonistic towards them isn't really going to convince them, it's just going to make them think you're a terminally online asshole who can't be rational about anything to save their life.
Being antagonistic is okay if they were already calling you every ad hominem under the sun since they probably aren't going to be convinced anyway but in other circumstances it's better to be reasonable rather than saying "Fuck you and your industry" all the time.
It's amazing how much of a self own that is, imagine being so shit at your job that you have to tell people to learn the language instead of fucking translating it properly yourself.

yep, if they are already being a dick when may as well be a dick back. but I find you often catch more flys with honey than vinegar, and if you play your cards right by being nice sometimes that can lead to longer convos where you can give them the rope to hang themselves with. done this a lot on Twitter and its very effective. people will trip over their own bullshit more often than not if you just keep them talking. and if to the onlooker they seem like the crazy person and you seem like the reasonable one then IMO that's a big W

While translators are bad, I think the editors are even worse. they typically have more creative power and can do massive damage. The translation can be completely faithful but can be immediately fucked up if they wake up one day and decide that line in the script should be replaced with a stale meme

Hey guys I hope is not too much to ask but I would love if you can do a list of games that have a shitty localizer working on it. Because I don't know much about who is behind the scenes and I don't want to give money to these people.
the editor bit is just the tip of the iceberge.
companies generally hire editors and QCs that don't even understand Japanese.
which means even if they did try to help, they'll still fuck up by correcting things because they can not understand the intent of the original text.
and to make matters worse, most times they can't see the original text anyway because they are given the TL script.

The longer this shit goes on, it's pretty clear these losers only have the most basic understanding of Japanese. Hell, I saw someone post about the new Fate:GO update earlier today, and they straight up ran it through google translate. Some possible good news, it seems like more and more anime studios want to do in house translations. Of course, they're probably going to hire some california fag because they don't know any better. A nice end result would be if all these wannabe writers got fired because their companies went under. One can only hope.

the worst part about this is that the game has been translated from JP to EN and from EN to all other 13 languages that is available.
i know that because i saw a video of this part in my nations language and it says the same shit.
these english translator are fucking up with the translation of every language, but the blame also lies on the studio because they should have hired translators that would have make a translation direct from japanese and not make a translation of another translation because now that the first translation is shit, all other translations are also fucked.
i guess they decided to make like this because its probably easier and cheaper than hiring peoples from 13 different nationalities that can translate direct from japanese.

english is the most common pivot language. A japanse-spanish translator is less common than a j-e one so it is cheaper to just get it to english and get translators to turn it to another language.
Why it is so important to get it right in english.

I'm just glad NA ceases to be necessary after this. LB5.2 was the last untranslated piece of (important) story left. after this they will all get replaced by Rayshift's fan translations. they've already translated the entirety of LB6 and Tunguska as well as some other events and they will probably pick up LB7 once that comes out.
more and more people are learning of the app so it's only a matter of time before most vets move to JP for faster and more accurate translations.
