Megathread Poor Localization Compilation Thread

Given From Software stuff came up earlier in the thread. Is most of their old stuff not also utterly horribly localized? Like from what I remember the translation for a lot of stuff in King's Field just plain sucks. And Armored Core also suffered a good bit from stuff just being shoddily translated or outright changed.

So the fan translation of the Manga and the Animes subbing are both wrong as far as I am aware. Really bizzare. It would have been pretty funny if isagi just went "Retard". Hetakuso means someone who is bad at something, so if this is in the context of a battle or something then "weakling" would probably be most accurate.

I would have agreed however prior to isagi saying "hetakuso" localized to "retard". The character he says it to (Barou Shouhei) called him and everyone else donkeys multiple times and said they were beneath him. So it is more likely to be closer to "sucker" in that instance rather than "weakling". Just my understanding of it anyway.

The most charitable thing u can say about it is that it changes the tone, which destroys some characters personality.
Yae miko in jp and Spanish versions of some lines comes across as flirty and she uses anime-like old words to refer to herself and the MC. its like saying dear or when women in the past said "your wife".
while yae miko does acts trolly and likes to tease the main character in the EN version she acts more assholish

While ToTK isn't overtly wokalized or anything, the translations is still very weird in some places. For example, the robotic golems are translated as "constructs". The block-golems become "flux constructs" (what on earth could this even mean? sounds like some circuit element), even though in the original Japanese it just says the english phrase "block golem", in katakana. There's a lot of other weird stuff.
I've looked a bit into a bunch of other translations, and as far as I can tell, many (or, potentially, all, even) have some weird quirkiness going on, occasionally diverging quite a bit from the original, but English is one of the more noticeably weird and outlandish afaik. I personally play in my native Black Speech, I was surprised it got localized to my language in the first place, given the global econopolitical situation, though I choose to mostly use the Japanese dub and just set the text localized.

Been playing Armored Core 2: Another Age while checking the localization. It isn't bad but it's full of moments like this where it's like... I guess it's acceptable despite missing some of the nuance behind the phrase.

In the original it's trying to explain why the company can't just deal with the problem themselves while in the localization it just feels like an unimportant detail to the mission despite getting the details across. Perhaps it's the way of phrasing it, or I'm just retarded while under sleep pills and I'm seeing things.
